Games for mid-week 02/11

An away trip to Ewood Park to take on Blackburn Rovers is our mid-week travel this time.

Another “below par” performance and we win 3-0, that was a quite incredible result and come the latter stages of the season could well prove decisive. The previous two games we’ve not played anywhere near our best but still scored 7 goals and conceded 0, I’ve a feeling that we’ll give someone a real drubbing when everything “clicks”, I’m also hoping that we’ve had our “shocker” game at Blackpool but being Fulham you never know?
3 more for Mitro! thats 18 in 15, Mitro has scored 12 goals in the last 7 appearances, and to top that achievement he gave the match ball to a young supporter, what a gesture and something the youngster will treasure.

It was a shame that Tosin saw red, we’ll now have to “make do” with either Mawson, Kongolo or Hector, not bad alternatives are they?

Also hasn’t Rodak done a good job? 3 consecutive clean sheets and only 1 goal conceded in his 4 starts, if he keeps this up I can’t see him loosing his place.

Our record against Rovers is an even one 6 wins, 7 losses and 6 draws

With Tosin unavailable my team would be…

Games for the Weekend 29/10

Back to the Cottage for this weeks game, this time we face West Brom, yet another 12:30 kick-off.

A 0-4 win against the “in form” team of the league was very impressive, in truth 0-4 flattered us but getting wins when your not playing at your best is the sign of a good team, keeping a clean sheet is a cherry on top.
This week-ends game should be very interesting, if we win we’ll be 4 points ahead of West Brom, whilst a draw would see us remain a point ahead, if we loose they’ll leapfrog us by 2 points. A win for either team could give a phycological advantage to the winners, and may prove pivotal for automatic promotion?

Mitro now has 15 goals, what an incredible return, he must be on target for setting the record for goals scored?
It was also really good to see Tom get the full 90 minutes, I was surprised how well he and Seri partnered, long may it continue.

Our record against West Brom is very good with 5 wins, 2 losses and 7 draws

Assuming there are no further injuries my team would be…

Games for the Weekend 23/10…

This weekend we’re off to Robin Hood country to take on Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Sunday at 15:00.

Forest v Fulham

Back to back home wins and with other results going “our way” we’re up to 2nd and have the highest goal difference, thanks to Mitro?, in the league. 5 points behind Bournemouth, they have to lose sometime, but we’re in far better form than after the previous international break and with Cairney, Tete, Kongolo and Carvalho coming back from injury I think that we’re in a “good place”.
Wasn’t it good to see Tom back in a Fulham shirt? and to cap it with a goal, fairy-tail stuff. Mitro, 13 in 13, he’s still on fire! It was also good for Rodak to keep a clean sheet and he made a couple of important saves towards the end of the game. According to the votes on the forum Seri had another MotM performance, he had nearly twice the number of votes for Tom Cairney in second place.

Our record against Forest is another even one with 5 wins, 4 losses and 1 draw. Forest are on a bit of a run since changing their manager winning away at Huddersfield, Barnsley, Birmingham and Bristol City and Blackpool at home. On Tuesday Forest scored twice in injury time to win 1-2 at Bristol City so their going to full of confidence.

Games for Mid-week 19/10…

Another evening game under the lights of Craven Cottage this time we face Cardiff City

Fulham v Cardiff City

Well the game against QPR was more like it!
Mitro has 12 in 12, he really is on fire! also it was really good to see Tom in the squad, it can’t be too long before he starts, it’ll be interesting to see who Marco drops for Tom?
Hopefully Bryan won’t be out after colliding with the post, but it always difficult to choose between him and Robinson anyway. Seri has been a revelation, while there was so many things wrong with the Coventry game not starting Seri really cost us, some of his passing on Saturday was a level above anything we’ve seen in the last fews seasons.

Our record again Cardiff is very even with 6 wins, 5 losses and 6 draws.
Cardiff’s 0-3 loss against local rivals Swansea will give them some impetuous to bounce back, as Coventry, so I’m guessing that this game will be another close one.

Assuming Carvalho’s now fit, Marco said he could be, my team to face Cardiff would be…

Games for the Weekend 16/10…

Another early kick-off, 12:30, this time we welcome QPR to the Cottage.

Fulham v QPR

So after another international break we’re back to games that matter.
Hopefully we’ll play better than after the previous one! With Mitro, Wilson, Marek Rodak, Bobby De Cordova-Reid and Antonee Robinson travelling with their squads Marco Silva won’t have had much, if any, time to re-energise the team.
There was some good news with Terence Kongolo, Kenny Tete and Tom Cairney back in training, I don’t think we’ll see them for this game, but you never know?
It’ll be interesting to see if Fabio Carvalho is in the squad, if he is then so much the better, if he’s not then I think that could indicate that he’s off in January?

After the shambles at Coventry a derby game against the bitters could be just the thing to get us back on track?
QPR are having a good start to the season, and I’m sure they’ll be up for this game.

We’ve a good record against QPR, 9 wins, 2 losses and 2 draws.

Assuming no “international” injuries my team would be…

Games for the Weekend 02/10…

this Saturday we’re being sent to Coventry for a 12:30 kick-off.

Coventry City v Fulham

Coventry City have designated this game as “Jimmy Hill Day” and £1 from every ticket sold for the game will be donated to the Jimmy Hill Legacy Fund.
Jimmy has a very special place in the hearts of both sets of fans, Fulham wouldn’t have survived as a club without him.
Jimmy played over 290 games for Fulham from 1952-1961, he became Fulham Chairman in 1987 and stayed in the role until 1997.
For Coventry Jimmy became their manager in 1961, after he retired from playing, and remained their manager until 1967. Following a successful career in TV he returned to Coventry in 1975 as Managing Director and then Chairman leaving in 1983.
Jimmy’s last public appearance was at the unveiling of his statue outside Coventry’s ground.

Mitro’s on fire! he’s currently the leagues leading goal scorer with 10 in 10!
The first half against Swansea was us back on form, the second half wasn’t quite as sharp however we managed to contain a very competitive Swansea, so it was a job well done.

Coventry will be smarting from their thrashing from Luton, 5-0, and I’m sure will be looking to keep their excellent home record in tact, Mitro may well have other ideas.

We’ve not played Coventry since the 1967/68 season and with both teams at the top end, 3 & 4, of the table, Coventry haven’t lost at home so far this season, perhaps a score-draw would be a fitting result to remember Jimmy Hill?

I’m assuming that Bryan won’t be available, as he went off injured, and as Kebano normally has a really good game followed by a bad one, my team for this game would be…

Remember this is a 12:30 kick-off.

Games for Mid-week 15/09…

League Cup action under the lights at the Cottage against Leeds

Fulham v Leeds EFL Cup

This could be an interesting match.
In truth I don’t think that either manager will be taking the League Cup too seriously at this point however, a “cup run” is a “cup run” and will be good for some of the “fringe” players to get a run out.

Leeds will look to repeat a similar result as the league game last season, their first win in the Capital in donkeys, Fulham will want to test themselves against a Premiership team.

Kick-off is 19:45

Games for Mid-week 24/08

Our first Cup game of the season see’s us travel to Birmingham’s St. Andrews ground for a 19:45 kick-off.

Birmingham City v Fulham

Anyone fancy a cup run?
I must admit I’m not sure how we should approach this game. On one hand, winning becomes a habit, on the other could a cup run detract from the league with additional fatigue and injuries?
With Tim Ream, Tete and Carvalho all going off injured on Saturday, added to the long term injuries of Tom, Kongolo and Reed, Harrison looks to be the closest to returning, Tuesday would be an ideal game to give some of the youngsters a run out alongside the players who are close to the starting eleven for every game.
Rodak should get a start, he’d be starting every game if I was picking the team, Hector, Sessegnon, Christie, Knockaert and Bryan are obvious candidates and I’d give players like Francois, Fossey, Stansfield and Kieron Bowie the opportunity of first team action.
We have a good squad and I’d like to see it used if only to give “game time” to players who might be needed sooner or later.
If Rodrigo Muniz had arrived a few days earlier, I think he’s due in from his quarantine period in Spain sometime Tuesday, then I’m sure this game would have been his debut, perhaps he’ll be introduced against Stoke on Saturday?

Another interesting aspect of this game is that we go back to Birmingham on the 15th September for a “proper” league game, and it would be good going into that game knowing that we’d had a good result, or would we be better looking for revenge?

Games for Mid-week 28/09…

Our last game of September see’s us welcome Swansea City for a Wednesday evening kick-off under the lights at Craven Cottage.

Fulham v Swansea City

Have the wheels come off? I don’t think so however, after only 1 win, 1 draw and 2 losses in the last 4 four games since the “international break” we’ve definitely lost the momentum that we’d built from the start of the season.
A lot of the problem could be our ever growing injury list although we should have adequate cover from what is probably the best squad in the Championship? Having said that winning, loosing or drawing is often down to fine margins and if “player A” isn’t quite as good as “player B” and you have multiple changes then lack of consistency could play a part?

Swansea had a good win against Huddersfield at the weekend, our record against them is another close one with 4 wins, 5 losses and 1 draw.

Once again I’m assuming that Cairney, Kongolo, Tete and young Carvalho won’t be available so my team would be…

Games for the Weekend 25/09…

We’re off to Bristol for this weekend game

Bristol City v Fulham

Two defeats from the last three games doesn’t sound like a team playing well, however we’re still 2nd and half a better goal difference than any other team.
A plus point from last Saturday’s game was that Muniz scored his first goal at the Hammersmith End, may it be the first of many in his Fulham career. A really nice aspect was that Mitro’ set him up, the master and apprentice.
Chalobah continues to impress, what a bargain he’s proved so far, along with Wilson they may well prove to be the best signings of the Championship for this season?
After Tuesday’s game Mawson and Hector must be very close to starting and I can see a central partnership of Tosin and Mawson getting an outing in the not too distant future.

Our record against Bristol City isn’t too good, 5 losses, 2 wins and 2 draws, so this will probably be another difficult game.

I’m assuming that neither Carvalho, Cairney, Tete and Kongolo will be available, so my team would be…
