Games of interest for the last “full” day of the season 06/05

Fulham travel to Birmingham for the last “proper” game of the season

Birmingham v Fulham

Even though it’s a “full card” on Sunday when all games are played at the same time, in truth there’s only two games of interest to us?, Birmingham v Fulham and Cardiff v Reading. If Cardiff fail to get a better result than us then we’ll get automatic promotion however if they beat Reading then for us its 3rd place and the play-offs!

We’re still unbeaten after 23 games, thats better than Man City! in any league that’s a fantastic achievement and we’ve played some beautiful stuff as well as grinding out a result or two. Cardiff have won 3, lost 3 and drawn 1 in the last 7 games (all in April) however their home form has been formidable, they’ve only lost 4 games all season (we beat them 2-4) while Reading’s away form has been ‘indifferent’ they’ve only won 5 away games so far this season.

So assuming Cardiff get the win then there are some other games that will have an impact on who gets the last top six and therefor a play-off place. Derby (72) are currently in 6th, Preston NE (70) are 7th and Millwall (69) are 8th with no other teams able to catch Derby.

Games of interest for weekend 27-29/04

Fulham welcome back “Cookie” and his Sunderland team to Craven Cottage for our last home game of the season

Fulham v Sunderland

This will be our 3rd televised game in a row and the 2nd on a Friday evening, I’m sure that moving the game to a Friday will have upset many, many supporters arrangements. With the game move and Sunderland’s demotion to the 3rd tier, I can’t think of it as division one, I’m guessing that the away support will be a lot lower than it would of been, after all Sunderland’s not just around the corner is it!?

Last weeks game against Millwall showed how good we can be, if we win, tempting fate I know but I do think that we’ll get the result we need, or get a draw we’ll then beat Man City’s record of unbeaten games! not bad for little ol’ Fulham. With Cardiff loosing mid-week against Derby, their “game in hand”, the last couple of games of the ‘season proper’ are going to be really, really interesting!

Games of interest for weekend 20-22/04

Yet another London derby, this time we travel south of the river to Championship “new boys” Millwall

Millwall v Fulham

21 games unbeaten, what a phenomenal run! The draw with Brentford felt like a defeat? …and with Cardiff winning they’ve leap-frogged us into 2nd place however we’re sure of a play-off place. Congratulations to Wolves, our draw gave them automatic promotion.

The Millwall game was always going to be the toughest of our run-in? now that they’ve got a play-off place they’ll want to keep their impressive run of 17 unbeaten going, I’m sure Slaviša and the lards will be working hard to upset them.

The race for the top six, at least places 5 & 6 is getting interesting with Middlesborough, Millwall (currently 5th & 6th) and Derby (1 game in hand against Cardiff), Preston NE and Sheffield Utd hard on their heals any of these could be in the top 6 after Saturday’s games.

Games of interest for weekend 13-15/04

This week-end its another London derby, this time Brentford visit Craven Cottage

Fulham v Brentford

20 games unbeaten, 20 games! I’m sure that Brentford will be looking to bring our unbeaten run to an end as they are on a 5 game unbeaten run, they’ve won the last 3 games 1-0.

Cardiff will be looking to bounce back from 2 consecutive defeats which has seen us leapfrog them into 2nd place, however Cardiff have a game in hand as their away trip to Derby was postponed due to bad weather earlier in the year.

Millwall have forced their way into the play-offs with their win over Bolton Wanderers, they are also on a great unbeaten run of 16 games so our away trip to the Den should be an interesting game.

Fulham have another away game, this time we travel to the Steel City to take on Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday v Fulham

There’s a big game on Friday evening, Wolves will be looking to secure promotion and Cardiff won’t want to slip up with Fulham chasing them hard!

Our game away to Sheff Wed won’t be easy, none of them are, but with our run of 18 unbeaten the result on Friday could be an extra spur!

Games of interest for weekend 30-31/03

With the “International Break” over Easter weekend sees Fulham travel to Norwich on Good Friday.

Norwich City v Fulham

Will the “rest” have done the lads some good? even with a poor showing for the 2nd half of the QPR game we still managed to climb a place and currently sit 3rd. We’re still on a fantastic run, a club record of 16 league games unbeaten however, Cardiff still have a game in-hand and are 7 points in front of us but if we continue unbeaten we’ll really put the pressure on them.

After beating teams above us in the last two games, we’ve now got ourselves into 4th place

Next we’ve a mid-week home game against Sheffield Utd who, until recently have spent most of the season in the top six. We’ve now won 10 games of the last 13 so while this could be another tricky game for Slaviša and the lads, what odds would you get on Mitrović and Sess scoring again?
