Games for the Weekend 12/01

Back to the Premier League with another “6 pointer”, this time we’re away too Burnley Turf Moor.

Burnley v Fulham

After the disappointment of the game against Oldham last Sunday this weekend we travel to Turf Moor which hasn’t been a “happy hunting ground” for us in the past, lets see if we can do something about that this time?
Should we win, we’ll move to within 1 point of Burnley who had a good win against West Ham last time out and although we’d still be in the bottom 3 we’d be moving in the right direction.

Games of Interest

Team against Oldham Athletic

Over on the forum we’ve been discussing the upcoming FA Cup game…

love4ffc

Thoughts on Oldham FA Cup match.

Everything below is what I would do if I were in charge and just an opinion.  I do think Ranieri will do the opposite however and play pretty much the first team and his usual starting XI.  For the most part at least.  I don’t really see Ranieri reaching down into the U23’s or U18’s this season as I don’t think that is his style.  I hope to be proven wrong.
I am a firm believer of playing every match to win.  Regardless of the league or competition.  So, for the upcoming match against Oldham I would like to see a combination of first team players and youngsters.
My line up would include keeping the back for the most part the same.  I would do this so that the back continues to gel and learn each other’s playing style and thoughts.  As for the front I would sit Mitro as there is no need for him to play and possibly get a knock.  I would also sit Tom and Seri and give some of our U23’s a chance to shine.  With that in mind I would start the following line-up.

team against Oldham

Subs would be Harvey Elliott for Ryan, de la Torre for Vietto and Chambers for either Kmac or Johansen.  All of this of course would be contingent on the game going our way.

The reason I choose Steven and the above players is because this is a great match for them to show everyone what they can bring to the first team for both the remainder of this season and the future.

This first player that I really would like to see in this match is Steven Sessegnon.  I believe he is fully health and should get a chance to show that like his brother he can bring a lot to the first team.  I would like to see him start either on the right wing for Christie or as the right center fullback for Odoi.  From what match footage I’ve seen of him I think he could possible do either position and quite possible even make the first team bench as a sub player.

The other two youngsters I would include for this match; de la Torre as I think he is and can be a regular squad player and Harvey Elliott as it would be great to see him get a run with some of the first team players.

I’m sure everyone has also notice I put Tom and Seri on the bench.  Just like Mitro I just don’t think we should take a chance on Tom getting a knock.   I do think Tom should be starting more and would prefer Seri to be more of a sub rather than playing alongside Tom in the midfield.  As for Seri not starting, I have no real reason other than I think this would be a good game for Kmac and Johansen to get a good run out.

My captain for the match would be Kmac if he starts, obviously.  If he does not start, then Johansen.  If neither Kmac or Johansen get the nod and Tom is not in the starting XI then I give the arm band to MLM.  Why you ask would I give it to MLM?  Because I actually think he plays decent football and I believe he could step up and take the mantel if needed.

So, with all that said I really do hope to see both Fulham use some of its youth and get a solid win for once.

Games for the FA Cup 3rd round

No Premier League games this weekend, its time for the FA Cup 3rd round where we welcome Oldham Athletic to the Cottage

Fulham v Oldham (FA Cup 3rd round)

I still think that the FA Cup is the best knock-out competition there is, a competition that brings teams together from different leagues and where major upsets happen, remember Sutton Utd, Hereford, Shrewsbury or Wrexham?

I’m hoping that this games isn’t a major upset, but you never know…

Remember that our game is at 14:00 on Sunday

Games for the New Year

After a win & clean sheet on Saturday we now travel to North London to face Arsenal for our first game of 2019

Arsenal v Fulham

As a ‘by-the-by’ the very first game I attended was Fulham v Arsenal on New Years Day 1966, on that occasion we won 1-0, and I was hooked! How much I’d love to see a repeat of 52 years ago.

I’m guessing that AK47 won’t be in the squad as a punishment for his penalty antics on Saturday, even if he’d scored I’ve a feeling that he wouldn’t have been included?

Arsenal are having a bit of a bad run at the moment having lost against Liverpool, Spurs and Southampton, drawing against Brighton and only beating Burnley in their last 5 games, so it looks as if they’ll be looking forward getting a result against us.

Games for the Weekend 29/12

Following the draws against Newcastle and Wolves, this Saturday we welcome Huddersfield to the Cottage for yet another “6 pointer”.

Fulham v Huddersfield

Well we’re off the bottom so at least we’re moving in the right direction.
With Burnley playing West Ham another 3 points could see us jump another place however, Huddersfield will leapfrog us if they win.
Ranieri looks to have improved our defence but the lack of a cutting edge is now an issue, Mitro has looked an isolated figure at times.

Huddersfield are having a terrible run at the moment, they’ve not won since they beat Wolves on November 25th, so they’ll be desperate to get some points (sound familiar?) The last game they won before that was, you guessed it, against us, so I’m certain that they believe they will get something out of the game.

Games for Boxing Day 26/12

So we’re at the Home for the festive game and welcome Wolves to the Cottage

Fulham v Wolves

Well we finally got a clean sheet against Newcastle on Saturday, I can’t remember being so pleased about a 0-0.

Ranieri looks as if he’s worked out how we can defend as a team and I think that Wolves will be a tougher test but the good news is that we’ll have home advantage.

Wolves lost last time out, however that was against Liverpool so I’m not reading too much into that result. It’ll be another test, but the chance of getting off the bottom should give our lads the extra incentive we need.

Team against Newcastle 22/12

over on the forum we’ve been discussing who we would pick to play against West Ham, here are some suggestions….

WHITEJC

After last Saturday’s effort I’ll be clutching at any straw to get a result against Newcastle, here’s my ‘best of a bad bunch’…

Seri still needs some time on the bench, he’s a better player than we’ve seen so far, its just not working at the moment. Christie is the best(?) option we have for right back and I’m also hoping that young Ryan will be fit.

Subs: Betts, Ream, MLM, Cisse, Seri, Shurrle

Games for the Weekend – 21/12

This weekend we have the trip up to Newcastle, I’m sure Mitro is looking forward to it.

Newcastle v Fulham

Apparently the 1st half against West Ham last week was the best we’ve played since Claudio took over, we still let in two goals, the least said about the 2nd half the better? only good thing I can think of is that we didn’t concede again.

Hopefully Mitrović will want to show Rafa how big a mistake he made by not playing him and then getting rid of him, how poetic would it be for Mitro to get his fist premiership hat-trick against his old club?

Team against West Ham 15/12

over on the forum we’ve been discussing who we would pick to play against West Ham, here are some suggestions….

after the 1st half horror show against ManU the team played much better in the 2nd half, also getting a second goal in two games AK47 must have earned a starting place. Seri needs some time on the bench, he’s a better player than we’ve seen so far, its just not working at the moment.
