Games for the weekend 19/08

Our first home game of the season we face Brentford for a 3 o’clock kick off

Fulham v Brentford

Well that was a lucky win against Everton, I didn’t think we played that badly however if Everton had been more clinical then the result could have been very different?
Leno was outstanding, easily MotM, what a signing he’s proved to be.
I was a little surprised to see Tim Ream in the starting eleven, mainly due to him recovering from the broken arm but also because Bassey has such a good debut against Hoffenheim.

Over on the forum our stats guru Ludlow Richard pointed out…
the stats show how difficult it has been for Fulham to win away on the first game of the season in the top flight.
We have played 14 away games on the first day of the season in the top flight. WE have won just three of them, all by 1-0: Portsmouth in 2009, Sunderland in 2013 and Everton yesterday. In those 14 away games we have only scored more than 1 goal on two occasions (1965 v Blackpool: we drew; and 2001 v Man Utd: we lost). So what this goes to show is that whatever we thought of yesterday’s win, it was a rare occurrence and the team deserve plaudits for the win.

It was good to see Pereira coming on for a substitute appearance, hopefully Palhinha will be available for the Brentford game.
There were photos of Mitro on crutches and with a protective boot on his left foot getting off the train at Euston, hopefully this was as a precaution? I’m still expecting him to go to Saudi, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see, I do hope he doesn’t leave on the last day of the window.

Brentford looked good against Spurs so I think we’ll need to perform at a better level than we did against Everton.

Our record against Brentford is 4 wins, 8 losses and 3 draws.

assuming no new signings, departures or injuries my squad would be…

Games for the Weekend 20/08…

This weekend we welcome Brentford to the Cottage for the first “top flight” encounter between our clubs.

Fulham v Brentford

It was a shame Mitro couldn’t score the penalty against Wolves, I’m sure he’ll get the next one, but in truth I think a draw was a fair outcome for that game.
One highlight of the game was Jay Stansfield getting his Premier League debut, he didn’t look out of place did he.

Brentford are going to be full of confidence after their 4-0 win against Man Utd and the fact that they always do well at the Cottage, this would be a nice game for us to start to redress the balance.

Our record against the bees 3 wins, 7 losses and 3 draws.

I’m surprised that neither Leno, Diop, Mbabu or Duffy have started so far, having said that why change an unbeaten team? however I would make a couple of changes mainly to add a little extra “steel” to the squad, my team would be…

Games for the Weekend 20/06

Well footie is finally back, at least games “behind closed doors”, and we kick-off the Championship’s return with a game against Brentford.

Fulham v Brentford

As we’re effectively starting the season again, previous matches and form probably won’t mean a great deal, never the less here’s what I thought about our “last” game…

In other circumstances an away draw at Bristol would have been a good result, especially after going a goal behind, but if we’re aiming for automatic promotion it must be seen as 2 points dropped? Having said that we played well and it looks as if Captain Cairney is back to his best, Tom had his best game in an age, lets hope he continues.

Brentford are scoring goals for fun, 5-0 against Wednesday, they also beat Hull 1-5 earlier in February, our defence will have to be on top of their game for this one.

Brentford are another team who like playing us, they’ve won 5, drawn 3 and only lost 2 against us in recent games. They are currently on 60 points, 4 behind us, so with a win we could stretch that gap to 7 and move ourselves closer to West Brom and Leeds.

Games of interest for weekend 13-15/04

This week-end its another London derby, this time Brentford visit Craven Cottage

Fulham v Brentford

20 games unbeaten, 20 games! I’m sure that Brentford will be looking to bring our unbeaten run to an end as they are on a 5 game unbeaten run, they’ve won the last 3 games 1-0.

Cardiff will be looking to bounce back from 2 consecutive defeats which has seen us leapfrog them into 2nd place, however Cardiff have a game in hand as their away trip to Derby was postponed due to bad weather earlier in the year.

Millwall have forced their way into the play-offs with their win over Bolton Wanderers, they are also on a great unbeaten run of 16 games so our away trip to the Den should be an interesting game.

other games of interest include…

Aston Villa v Leeds

SATURDAY 14TH APRIL

Burton v Derby

Middlesbrough v Bristol City

Norwich v Cardiff

Sheffield Utd v Millwall

SUNDAY 15TH APRIL
