Stockdale on the way out?

Stockers just retweeted "Fulham manager Martin Jol has transfer listed goalkeeper David Stockdale and defender Matthew Briggs for moves away from Fulham in January." and responded with "wish someone would have told me!!!"

MJG

I hope that's a mistake and await official confirmation. But you go years trying to find a keeper to replace your No 1 and I believe we have at the club already. If we let Stockdale go then we just go down the route of getting rubbish like Robinson.
With Briggs, Jol has spoken highly of him and thought he had plans for him for the second half of this year and next season.

Surely the Briggs one is a loan. I feel the same with Stockdale, but less so as Jols has never really indicated that he rated him.....that I can recall anyway.

Gotta say that I was wondering why Stockers wasn't on the team sheet yesterday.

you could read that two ways. Like I said wait for offical confirmation, but it does bring up the stockdale-mark debate again

Never really rated Stockdale. He was/is a good back-up keeper but he would not be a good first XI keeper. If he would be so exceptional, why has no English club come for him knowing that he has barely any opportunity to play at Fulham?
No forum is complete without a silly Belgian participating!

If I'm perfectly honest, if we are looking to push for a top 6 position in the next year or 2, I do not see Stockdale being between the sticks for us. I'm not wanting to put him down, as I think he is a good keeper, however we need someone of international experience, I believe, if we are to continue pushing up the league. If we were to attract a top keeper (ie within the top 10 keepers in the league at least - which Stockdale is not, and not Robinson either!) then I can see David being sold to a Championship club and continuing his development there, to hopefully in the next 5 years developing into a top keeper which he could become.

Basically, I see us looking to be better than Stockdale currently is and I don't think he will want to stick around and continue playing as a number 2 which is fair enough

ps. Yeah, I agree with you basically Sipwell

Forget Stockdale, let's get Stekelenburg!

I wonder whether that is what's behind this decision. Maybe the keeper you name, or perhaps someone else, but we are probably about to bring in a new No.1. Schwarz must be very close to dropping down the order, and if Jol doesn't see Stockdale as his replacement now must be the time to sign the right man.

It's not a 'decision'; it's something that someone has put on twitter.

As London Underground keep reminding us: 'Mind The Gap' (between perception and reality).

Mr Fulham

I feel that comment by Stockdale was tongue-in-cheek.

Craig Gordon is available.... :005:

Stockdale could be a good number 1 for us we would get a lot of years from him and with game time he would prove to be a top keeper, a mistake if we let him go permanently

He's not there yet though and that's the point

Besides, if he turns out to be half as good as everyone believe's he is, he'll surely be on the bigger clubs radar (just like any of our young talented players)

the thing is he's hardly seen. Rarely plays for the u21's and must be lacking match sharpness. The few Ipswich fans I know all say he did well for them.
He's had two goes at the first team and on both occasions, for no reason other than Mark was back, he got dropped.
MS is losing it and age catches up with every player. For me this has to be his last season and I would like him phased out in the second half of the season.

Well at the very least Stockdale is getting some game time now.

Hull boss Steve Bruce: "We didn't do enough in the first half and Burnley were comfortably the better side. If it had not been for our goalkeeper it could have been worse at half time.
