Must admit I am rather hoping this isn't true.  Prefer other players that have been mentioned. Not sure our well built squad will be well served by such a flamboyant, self promoting character who is well passed his best days.

I was never a fan of the Berbatov, Ross signings & was pleased for what they did for us but equally pleased when they went. I put Gyan in that prima dona category

Team is crying out for someone like Gyan. Whether or not he is a good fit for the chemistry of the squad, but there's no question he could lead the line and bag 20 goals. He's that talented.

saha was hardly unknown. . And to come across another like him now would be fluke. We had dembele and let him go.

My understanding was that he went off on holidays and then never returned back - without a word to anyone? I think it was Steve Bruce wasn't it ... In charge... Bewildered by the whole thing.

I'm not sure about all this. I don't think he fits the "all in it together", happy schoolboy atmosphere we seem to have on the pitch this season. Will just cause trouble..

However - he fits our playing style almost perfectly.

Can Jokanovic reign him in?

He's got a very spotty past, but there's a good chance at 30 he's matured, and past the idea he's the best player in the world, and might want to work hard and cement his legacy as a good player. I don't think it would hurt to have him out there.

saha was hardly unknown. . And to come across another like him now would be fluke. We had dembele and let him go.

We didn't "let Dembele go" - he left - he could only ever be contracted until he was 18 - those are the rules - he refused to sign a new contract and was free to go where ever he wanted to.

Given his record with Celtic - we might have done well to loose him.

Fulham can't afford Gyan wages

According to UK media, Fulham have pulled out of the race to sign Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan on loan due to his high wages.

The English Championship side, Fulham, last week expressed interest in signing the former Sunderland forward on loan.

It is understood Gyan would welcome the opportunity to play under Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic. But his sizeable wage packet has pushed Fulham to call off the deal.

The Ghana star earns $350,000 a week at Chinese side Shangai SIPG. Gyan has played at three World Cups and helped his country to reach the quarter-finals in 2010.

Reading are closing in on a deal for former Sunderland striker Asamoah Gyan.

The Ghana international has been playing for Shanghai SIPG where he is on a reputed wage of ?227,000-a-week but he will be allowed out on loan with the Chinese side heavily subsidising any contract.

Gyan had held talks with Fulham last week but is ready to switch to their Championship rivals and link up with Jaap Stam.


Former Sunderland striker Asamoah Gyan is close to joining Reading on loan for the season

The 30-year-old is expected to undergo a medical for the Royals on Monday afternoon.

After enjoying spells in Europe with Udinese and Rennes, Gyan joined Sunderland in 2010 on a four-year deal worth ?10million.

He made an immediate impact, scoring on debut against Wigan, before eventually going to score 11 goals in 33 appearances for the Black Cats that season.

However, after just one campaign at the Stadium of Light, Gyan joined UAE club Al Ain on loan, before joining the club permanently on a five-year contract in 2012.

Reading boss Stam is keen to bolster his attacking options before the transfer window closes, following a mixed start for his side in the Championship.

After starting the season with a 1-0 win over Preston, Stam's side then failed to win any of their next three fixtures against Wolves, Newcastle and Brighton.

Reading recorded a narrow victory over struggling Cardiff on Saturday to head into the international break 15th in the Championship table.

Sunderland, Fulham still in the race for Ghana ace Asamoah Gyan

Asamoah Gyan is refusing to rule out a move to Sunderland or Fulham as he has been heavily linked with a loan switch to Reading in the English second tier.

The Ghana captain arrived in England on Sunday morning to evaluate a number of loan offers from English clubs.

The powerful striker to considering a season-long loan move away from Chinese Super League team Shanghai SIPG after being declared surplus to requirements.

The 30-year-old is likely to seal the loan deal with Reading as the Royals are leading the race to sign the Ghana striker.

Despite the immense interest from the Royals Gyan says he cannot rule out interest from Sunderland and Fulham.

"I heard about Sunderland and Fulham but we will see what happens. There might be surprises. Football is full of them," Gyan said.

"The people around me are trying to benefit me.

"It doesn't matter if it is Championship or Premier league, it's about being comfortable where I am."

Gyan spent two years playing in England for Sunderland before moving to the UAE club Al Ain in 2012.
