Hope that is the last time we have seen him play for the club. He has been appalling since rejoining, costing us time and time again and has now cost us a place in Europe with what he's done today. 30m? One of the worst signings of the khan era
Cost us Europe today. Plain and simple
Yeah completely brainless. He has his very good days, but it's more than balanced out by stuff like today's fiasco.
He's decent at best. Completely idiotic today and cost us Europe. Its all on him. Hopefully we dont see him again
Definitely not the same player since he signed for us from Palace. I'd be more than happy for him to move on at the end of the season.
Palace really pulled our trousers down with this. £30m? Try £3m.
Get rid, he's slow and unreliable. I didn't want us to re-sign him and I have been proved right.
I am not quite so down on Anderson but his distribution is his one saving grace and was certainly missed which you can see when Diop came on. What he did today was stupid and I hope Silva reads him the riot act as he cost us the game.
Not sure we can get rid of him given his wages. Suspect he'd rather stay and take the money.
There's a lot we don't know, besides that no one is that stupid.
Match could have been fixed. He may have been part of it, as could have Christie.
I think it's more likely though he has some sort of hate for the club. Something must have happened, and he wanted to ensure he played his last match for the club doing as much damage on purpose.
It worked with maximum effect.
For his own safety, I imagine he can't be around the club, and nowhere near the fans. Eek!
Still. In. Shock.

I disagree, silva cost us Europe from Christmas onwards, the negativity around this squad is down to him and that's where the buck stops.
I didn't even think he was good enough in his loan season where we got relegated to want him back. He was just one of the best of a very bad bunch.

I don't think wages are the issue, we could always subsidise them somewhere else. The issue is that £30m fee, which hangs on the club like a millstone.
Andersen seems to have lost his face, his distribution and his head. At least now Diop will start for the next 2 games.
Was given massive plaudits from a lot on his loan spell during the Parker relegation. I'm happy to never see him pull on a Fulham shirt again. Palace recruited well at less than what they received.
Well he can pack his bags and head to the beach now. Three match ban.
Trying not to overreact, but he pretty much cost us today. Would happily see him not play for us again.

The thing is, we looked better 11v11 and 11v10, so in all likelyhood, we would have continued to look better than them if Andersen didn't get himself sent off. They seemed to cope better with 10v10 than us.
hes kind of the poster child for the issues with this squad. A good professional that has a good amount of talent and is just happy to be playing in the Premier league in a low pressure setting.

Oh, I think it did. It was 11 v 10 with a few seconds of the first half left when he made that ridiculous tackle. 11 v 10 would have made us strong favourites to go on and win the game, particularly as we were playing quite well.
We won't get back what we paid for him, but lets take the hit. We need to upgrade with a proper reliable defender with some pace and quality on the ball alongside Bassey.
A disgrace. Utterly moronic. Completely unnecessary. He cost us the game plain and simple. And I recall he was at fault when we collapsed against palace last season. For every diagonal ball that comes off, five go strait to the opp so even his so called distribution is suspect.
Andersen aside, this team was never going to qualify for European football - zero leadership, mediocre skill, and no heart.

11 V 10 they would have done!
Well, I am going against the majority on this thread, but I think Andersen and Bassey are a good central defensive partnership by Premier League standards, and I completely disagree with the assertion that Andersen has been "appalling" since he returned. Defence is the area of the team I am least worried about. I am much more concerned about our attack and midfield, and that should be the focus of our recruitment team.
This isn't about jumping on the bandwagon but a genuine reflection on Anderson.
I've been saying for months he switches off at the end of games. I can recall last minute penalty giveaways, poor positioning to allow Sesko to score last minute in the Man U game.. another game when he completely missed a simple cross clearance last minute leading to a goal. His concentration at the end of the game is so poor.
Today that seemed to translate into the end of the first half.
I get the impression he's a sensible captain with a reasonable range of passing (but hardly consistent). However his defending is average at best, he is slow and often gets caught by the ball in behind, and he time and time again switches off in the last few minutes of games leading to 8 points lost this season that I can think off the top of my head alone.
I believe, as I continuously and boringly say, that Diop is the better defender.
This isn't a "knee jerk" emotional reaction but a considered reflection over many months and today added fuel to the fire.
Andersen posted on his IG and apologised and said he takes full responsibility but then banned comments on this post. What a coward. It's the only post that doesn't allow comments too.

Yeah that's fair enough, but he better learn from this and not go in two footed again next season, an absolute brainfart. I'd rather he go though, he's just been very mediocre since returning.

Our Defense has been one reasonably good thing (other than our consistency at mid table). I also think a sale could be a good idea, as we generally are slow to pass and move. Diop doesn't move forward much, so would need someone with reasonable passing and movement
He has lost any pace he might have had. Maybe his boots are being weighed down by his salary.

I think it's more accurate to say Andersen cost us a golden opportunity to win the game. Both teams had the same number of players for the second half. We had no less chance of winning then than we did at the start of the game.
Moreover, Andersen's long pass completion percentage this season is 46%. If your imaginary figure of 1-in-6 were correct, it would be only 17%. A considerable difference. By way of comparison: Van Dyk's is 47%; Gabriel's 45%; Dias' 50%. Nothing shabby about Andersen's rate. He has also hit more successful long passes (166) than any outfield player bar Senesi (whose completion percentage is 38%).
https://www.premierleague.com/en/players/174874/joachim-andersen/stats
Whilst certainly not defending the indefensible we certainly noticed the difference when Diop replaced Andersen.
Yes, Andersen's long range passes are not always on the money but, and i like Diop, the second half meant we were slow getting out of defence with Issa stopping and passing sideways every time.
I thought Bobb and Kevin added a bit of spark but the final ball was, as usual missing. The less said about Jedi's crossing but i thought he had a much better game defensively.
Overall i am not too disappointed missing out on Europe as i don't think we are strong enough to cope with two competitions and would possibly put our PL in jeopardy.
PS: Hope Mr. Peabody had a better time than we did.

Yes, he made a significant mistake yesterday and it possibly cost us the game and what could be European football, but did we deserve European football? Truly?
We've been average as a team for a while..
Multiple things have let us down this season, from transfer business not being done (Pepi), to lack of concentration or focus from having key players and the manager contracts sorted, to injuries to key players like Kevin and Muniz..
We do seem to be stuck in the case of being the nearly men, but to start blaming one player on a whole season is just out and irrational

Thank you Plodder. I agree. Our focus should be our offensive abilities. Is it now zero goals in 7 of our last 9 matches, scoring 3 against Burnley and 1 against Villa ??
The reason we lost yesterday is really very simple....in having to replace ESR with Diop we lost the midfield. First half ESR was breaking up all their moves through the middle. When he went off that changed rather dramatically with BHA able to move the ball better.
Their goal had an extremely fortunate deflection (I think Leno had it covered otherwise).
So we all know Anderson was a complete idiot and had his part in losing the game but he was far from the only reason.
Also, BHA were very dirty, the number of times they took out our players (and that goes for many other teams we have played this season).
I mentioned to one or two of the regulars around us that we just play too much side to side with not enough progressive passes (as we have done all bloody season)
Let's not forget we were also missing Berg, Iwobi, Tete, Jiminez and Sess (okay two were on the bench but unused so probably not 100% match fit).
Munez still looks like half the man he was prior to surgery.
Finally as the previous poster said, our lack of goals is why we are not winning (simple) not our defence.
Bummer but beat Wolves next week and Newcastle after that (quite likely with the absentees back fit and Kevin back in contention) we could once again finish on a respectable 54 points and once again, for the most part not had to worry about relegation.
I would suggest that relegation will be something to worry about if we continue with this team. We must have a clear out and we must start to get comfortable selling players at the peak to fund the next great players.
We have a bunch of players right now that will be a bit of a write off

BHA ?
So are you saying Marco Silva made a mistake taking ESR off and it should have been somebody else ?
I think we can all agree that our lack of goals is our main concern and we need two strikers to come in in the summer but that aside we can also all agree that it was a mad challenge from Andersen which very quickly negated our one man advantage. I'm sure I read somewhere that Andersen said he was happy at Palace but they wouldn't match the wages we were offering - I just get the feeling he doesn't care that much about the team..

A foundation should be built on. You don't stop there. That's the complaint. The ambition is lacking in the squad, which is why we've all been complaining about the same problem the past 3 seasons after January. It's not that the club aren't making Europe, instead how little challenge they seem to put forth once relegation is no longer a danger.
Just look across the pitch to the other side yesterday. The contrast couldn't be more obvious. What did yesterday make for them? Undefeated in 16? With the manager leaving? It's not an impossibility for a low budget team to challenge for Europe, our squad just seem to lack the ambition to do so. Andersen' s red card yesterday and his general play are emblematic of the issue. He's not alone in that critique, just that he was the highlight yesterday.
I forgot it was Andersen that conceded the penalty vs Southampton. That means that he is pretty much singlehandedly responsible for the losses in two of our biggest games this season.
You can spin it whichever way you like, but the fact is, someone of his experience, and someone who is one of our captains, should know better than to make stupid decisions like that, especially in our biggest games.

Sorry Serbian, but I think you got this completely wrong.
Mistakes, stupid desisions, etc have happened before and will happen again by players better or worse than Andersen at all levels. That's the nature of the sport.
As for "two of our biggest games this season", this is an exaggeration in my opinion. A big game is a final, maybe a semi-final or an end-of=the season game that might lead to promotion, relegation or a European place. A round-of-16 FA Cup game and a league game on which a potential win would keep our hopes for a European place alive, but far from that being a certainty, are not big games.

Considering that's the furthest we've got in the FA Cup this season that's the biggest cup game we've had this year. Considering we're not fighting for a title, a match that would have put us in a pole position for Europe pretty much is definitely our biggest match this year.
Which match from this season would you consider to be bigger than those two matches?
As for "everyone makes mistakes part", I'm sorry, but he's definitely pretty much the only one at fault in those two matches. To concede a last minute penalty means you lose that match 99.99% of the time. And Bournemouth red is a similar thing. We were much better than them and then even got a man advantage when their player was sent off. It's logical to assume we'd continue to dominate or maybe even be more dominant if he wasn't sent off. I'd be willing to bet we would have won if we played the entire second half 11v10. Look at Iraola's face after their player got sent off. He looked dejected. He had a look of a man who was very worried he was going to lose.

"Singlehandedly"? Really? Nothing to do with how the rest of the team performed, then?
I could potentially add them to the "important games" category along with the League Cup quarter-final against Newcastle, but would say we didn't have any "big" games this year.
If you prefer it though, we can use the saying of an ex-Greek basketball player when we won the European Championship in 1987 (God, I feel old now!): this was the biggest game till the next one.
Quote from: Plodder on May 10, 2026, 05:43:14 PM"Singlehandedly"? Really? Nothing to do with how the rest of the team performed, then?
We get at least to overtime against Southampton if he doesn't give away a penalty. We certainly don't almost definitely go out like you do if you concede a last minute penalty.
As I've already said, there was nothing to suggest we would lose the Bournemouth match, prior to Andersen getting sent off. We were dominant, our movement was sharp, we were creating chances and it all looked good, and after their player got sent off it looked like it would be a win, or at absolute worst we'd fail to score and it will stay 0-0.
I also didn't say "singlehandedly" , I said "pretty much singlehandedly", as obviously some fault can be put at other players, but his mistakes were so costly that he is by far the biggest culprit.

It is a matter of opinion as to why we have not qualified for Europe. You think the players lack ambition: I, on the other hand, think it's our style of play that has seen us come up short.
I also think it evident my use of the word 'foundation' refers to the quality of the players in the squad being a foundation for bringing in better players. You, however, have used 'foundation' in the sense of the team having a sufficient number of points at an earlier stage in the season to be in with a chance of qualifying for Europe but not picking up enough to in the run-in to make it happen. Yours is a different point - my answer to which is in the paragraph above. You've taken the word 'foundation' from my post as if you're responding to my point, but you've merely side-stepped it.
I would also add it is not obvious (to me, anyhow) that a red card for serious foul play is a typical feature of
'how little challenge (the players) seem to put forth once relegation is no longer a danger'. Nor have I noticed Andersen's general play since then being any different. For what it's worth, the numerical evidence shows that, since reaching 40 points with our victory against Spurs, Andersen has featured in seven P.L. matches in which we've conceded seven goals. Our average number of goals conceded per league game this season is one-and-a-third.
Is "pretty much singlehandedly" significantly different from "singlehandedly"?
If you look at Bournemouth's goal yesterday, Chukwueze made a less than half hearted attempt to close down Rayan. Then Oscar Bobb blazed over the bar when he had the whole goal to aim at. If we are going to identify individual mistakes as the sole or major cause of defeats, we could start with those, but that would let off those who didn't make mistakes because they did not even play well enough to create or get on the end of significant opportunities. Or they made mistakes which went unpunished.
It is very rare for one player's mistake to be the major/sole cause of a defeat, as if the rest of the team had been robbed of victory somehow. It certainly was not the case in the two games we are discussing.

To me there's a big enough difference. Between those two things.
Chukwueze wouldn't have needed to close him down if we were playing 11v10.
Regardless, we seemingly disagree on this, so it's probably pointless to argue more.
I think that before we try and dispose of 2/3 rds of the current squad we should (hopwfully) allow the new manager to make their assessment, identify their views on how our current players would fit into the new managers playing style, then make decisions on who to release and hopefully recruit from a pre identified list of replacements
It's not our job!
We need a starter, completer and finisher in charge
Sadly it isn't Marco.

Clearly, our chances of winning would have been greater had we played the second half with an extra player to Bournemouth. Yet if, as you say, we were much better than them 11 v 11, why didn't we go on to win when it was 10 v 10? Andersen squandered our advantage, but this didn't put us at a disadvantage; it merely restored numerical parity.
I think Andersen's folly has directed attention away from another problem: yet another performance in which we were found wanting in the attacking third, with Silva seemingly unable to find the tactics to improve matters.
ive said it before im really loathed to slag any player off heavily . but most are saying hes definately not the player he was first time around and its true its there for all to see , if you dont see it then i dont understand . But just that tackle that got him sent off was nothing less than wreckless he cant be so stupid as to not know jumping in with 2 feet is going to see him red carded . i actually think there was a bit of incompetance by the ref not to do it straight away.
hes been crap since Christmas and for some reason Silva keeps playing him. I hope hes sold in summer but hes on massive wages
Andersen is the least of our problems, IMO. Yeah, agreed, he ultimately cost us the game, but it was also the team's responsibility to win the game at 10 v 10.
We need upgrades at RB (teams constantly target castagne), CM (we need two new CMs), and a number 9. Muniz has been really ineffective since coming back from injury, i'm actually a bit concerned...
Also, see that people have been slagging ESR again, and yet again, i thought he was one of our better players in the first half. I would have taken Wilson off, who was really ineffective throughout the whole game
W T Frig?
Anyone who is defending Andersen's actions & suggesting it did not cost us a potential win is misguided. Him being sent off affected our set up, strategy & team morale.
Misses by Chuk, Bobb are not in the same category as the stupidity of Andersen. 100% agree with SL. Still can't get over Andersen's tackle & then him arguing/questioning the decision with a smile on his face. Very disappointing.
The thing that irks me most of all about the Andersen signing is the fact that Palace signed Lacroix to replace him,
Firstly Lacroix is a better player,
Secondly Lacroix cost £10 million less than Andersen ,
Thirdly Lacroix is 4 years younger
Dress it up however you like, the Andersen transfer was a terrible piece of business especially when you consider we already had Diop who could play in that position.
good luck trying to sell him also. hes on 90k a week and contracted until June 2029 :slap:

Funny that Bournemouth player being sent off didn't affect their set up, strategy & Team morale, they just got on with it, apart from the sending off which was correct, the biggest mistake was taking ESR of, he was giving them problems.

I don't see any comments in this thread defending Andersen's tackle on Saturday. I do see comments with which I strongly disagree, such as Andersen having been "appalling all season", Andersen being "pretty much single-handedly" responsible for our loss on Saturday and in other games, Andersen "not caring", "he should be transferred" etc. Expressing my disagreement with those kind of statements is not defending his impetuous challenge on Saturday, which Andersen himself has acknowledged he should have done better.
It wasn't a miss by Chuk, it was a lack of determined defending on his part for Rayan's goal, but I am not the one saying his mistake therefore makes him entirely or mainly responsible for the loss, any more than that Leno should shoulder all the blame either, as he should have done better on the goal, too. The loss can't be put down almost entirely to Andersen getting sent off, it was a collective team responsibility, there were plenty of faults to go round.
I may be a lone voice but I don't agree with much of what has been written about Andersen. There's no dispute that his red card was wholly deserved for a brainless ridiculous challenge. However he has been to my mind part of a successful centre back partnership with Bassey.
Fulham has almost always played with a tall imposing CB ever since I first started attending CC. Dempsey, Mathewson, Brown, Lacy, Goma and Hangeland amongst others. Andersen may not be the best but he's equally not the worst. If we want to push on and become more than a regular mid table team then we need to do better up front. Our back line isn't IMO too bad and that includes Andersen. But we cannot continue failing to score.

It probably would have impacted them if Andersen didn't get senr off shortly after as well. Im not sure what game others have been watching. We were all over them even before their player got sent off and it looked like we'll get even more control. Andersen sending off meant we lost momentum, and the second half was an even game, instead of us dominating them, which in the end resulted in an unlucky loss.

Silva has had a strategy to help to establish and consolidate the team: he wanted a nucleus of players who had already experienced the P.L. Hence, the arrival of the likes of Leno, Pereira, Iwobi, Willian, Jiminez, Berge, Smith-Rowe, as well as Andersen. It cannot be said Palace were keen to offload Andersen. By all accounts, they turned down £25M, which, at the time, to many on here, seemed to be a very reasonable offer. Whether he has shown the form for which we hoped and has, thus, been value for money is open to debate. If it was a terrible piece of business, however, it's got nothing to do with whom Palace signed as Andersen's replacement.

You've managed to miss the point on so many levels 😒

Okay. Do explain those levels to me. I'd be grateful for the insight.

At Brentford Away he aimlessly sprayed hollywood passes to no one for 90 minutes, At Southampton he gets a red that puts them through to the semi finals, this weekend he needlessly gets a sending off in a game we were dominating... and we've had less than a handful of clean sheets over the last 2 seasons with him in the back 4.
Terrible signing for the money and would not miss him in a Fulham shirt at all. He is my least favourite player to watch on the pitch at the moment. But appreciate everyone sees it differently.
