Top priorities - two top strikers, two top midfielders, and a right back.
Would be good - an upgrade on Andersen.
Depth wise.... a central midfielder to replace Reed.
£100m minimum needed.

1 CM (Reed upgrade)

If we get a new manager, I'm guessing we'll be lucky to get two of those. Though I think a couple of strikers are the only thing we *need*. If we stick with a 4-2-3-1 maybe we need another CM. But I think our team is decently set up for a 4-3-3 at this point.
Eta: Thats assuming we don't activate Chukwueze's clause. Which I think we'd be silly not to.
What we'll actually get:
Chuk
A Striker
A second striker but it'll be someone from our academy
A backup CB which is likely LDF
We'll yet again not get a CM
Well probably get:
3 x LW
1 x 3rd choice goalkeeper
Lose - Wilson & Jimenez
Hire Tudor as our manager

Sounds like a plan. Probably a 4th LW just to be sure.
I'd be happy with one upgraded CM in the Murphy mold, one striker in the Metro mold.
I don't think our defence is badly lacking if we can keep our players fit and performing, so I'd de-prioritise that.
If we sort the midfield it changes things big time.
Also think if JKA shows any sort of promise we should activate his clause. Think £9 million is probably worth the risk, especially with how strikers are selling these days.

I keep agreeing with you mate, sorry if it looks a bit creepy!
TC's cameos show us what we miss most from midfield. Not just the goal threat but the defence splitting through balls and the ability to control the midfield. After a striker I regard replacement TC as the next highest priority.

Agreed, and frankly our biggest issue/weakness in defense is at GK, but I'm not sure the club will be looking to spend on that position this summer given Leno's contract.

2 strikers, decent DM. TC replacement, Wilson replacement at minimum
Berge upgrade essential and a top striker. That'll be all the money gone unless we can source players like Lukic, Tete and Robinson at bargain prices or sell to buy. Few to sell unless we can rob someone out of £22m for Berge, £20m for Muniz and, possibly, Robinson for £15m. No-one will want Anderson or Leno because of their exorbitant wages.
If Marco does go and the Club actually back the new Gaffer might be quite a squad overhaul and hopefully done early enough for pre-season
Expiring in 2026:
Wilson (would renew if poss)
Raul (likely off to Wolves)
JKA (I'd sign - bright spark and talented, will develop)
Chuk (50/50 on this)
Expiring end of NEXT season:
Bassey - Expires unless we use 1 year option. Needs new longer deal though
Sessegnon - Would extend
Lukic - Good player, but there's probably better out there. We do have option
Castagne - Would renew
Diop - Let go
Leno - We will need better end of next season
Reed - Time is up soon at top level
Lecomte - Not a bad backup, unless younger talent
Cairney - Legend, keep him until he wants to stop.
But when you look at this and next summer, it paints quite a big rebuild that we have. Not just this summer, but next.
With FFP and SCR coming in > We really have a crazy task ahead of us. This summer is a big job, but we probably need 4-5 permanent signings, and another 3-4 the next year, if not more. Which means you need a big sale to help offset this.
We need a strategy to keep building players that have resell value.
Where we need strengthening:
- A keeper to challenge Leno
- Another starting CB (Andersen, Diop and Cuenca could be all improved on)
- A dynamic CM that can break the lines (maybe 2)
- Another LW if Iwobi plays centrally
- A hard working number 10 (We miss Andreas massively)
- 2 strikers
In a separate post, interesting to see which players enter the last year of their contract this year, which could be a cheaper deal:
Jhon Lucumi
Raphael Onyedika
Fikayo Tomori
Milan Van Ewijk
Pedro (Flamengo)
Viktor Tsygankov
Evander
Ben Chilwell
Moussa Dembele
Dani Ceballos
Not the youngest, but still have a fair bit of quality as they look for their final 3-5 year deal apart from a couple of younger ones there.
We need a midfielder and a striker in my opinion. It's a gamble with Muniz, the more I see of him, the more I feel he's not cut out for the premier league. We could potentially get Pepi, but i can't imagine him hitting the ground running.
Midfield we need a young Cairney, a Murphy. Just someone with vision, leadership and calmness on the ball. (And likes to pass FORWARD)

This doesn't work.. we need a bigger and stronger squad, not keeping it the same size and not strengthening
Number 1 - Proper box to Box Midfielder
Number 2 - A Striker with pace
Artur Atta or Hayden Hackney and Ricardo Pepi or Franculino Dju. I would also resign Raul for one more year and sign Chukwueze and Kusi-Asare on permanent.
Priorities, in this order:
CF - Raul likely to leave. Crucial that we replace his goals and Muniz's isn't good enough to lead the line regularly. Non-negotiable.
CM - Desperately need a dynamic box-to-box midfielder in the Xhaka mould. Expect Reed to leave the club.
LW/RW - As/when Wilson goes, he needs replacing. Simple as.
CB - Would like us to sign someone to pair with Bassey. Andersen's just so underwhelming.
I'd also take up the option on Chukwueze and keep Kusi-Asare. The latter being a longer-term option.
Leno's arguably a problem, but suspect the club will prioritise other areas.
There were two things yesterday that made me think Raul is leaving, firstly when he and Wilson were due to come on Marco got the two of them into a huddle with him as if he was sayng "this is your last game here, go out and enjoy it"
Secondly Raul was so desperate to score in what might be his last game here
Build a team around Hackney - even if it takes a couple of seasons
Second priority striker
Third - a winger who can cross
After that don't think we will have any money left
I think we need to spend our funds on a striker and a central midfielder. Those 2 are critical areas we need a ready made option, although I would definitely see if we can retain Jimenez on a more friendly wage.
Everything else should be reinvested into potential, signing prospects that can develop. Sign a player in their early twenties (such as El Hilali from Espanyol or Methalie from Touslouse) who can compete with an established player, with the hope they will then replace them before moving on in year 3 or 4. That's the modern game, especially with the SCR rules.
I think we keep Raul and KA, sell Muniz and spend $60M on a starting striker. Over the year KA gets good enough to be second string, so next season our third string is from the academy.
Think we have let go of Chuk (wasn't on the bench), sign two wingers at $25M each.
Sign one CM at $35M.
Yes, outlay of $150M. No idea if that's supported by FairPlay. But we kind of need it all.
I think you're dreaming if you think we will be spending 150m
I looked through the transfermarkt data at the end of last season; the largest net spend we've had in a season is £50 million. The largest total spend was £90 million. Even if we really went for broke this year we'd probably need £60-70 million in player sales to be able to reach £150 million.
Just to set expectations.

The rules are changing this year though so the focus will be more on wages than transfer fees. Given we would likely sign players up to 5 year contracts it spreads out the payments quite a lot, so there's not an unrealistic scenario where we could sign 4-5 £20m players and then dot in some other players around that, and the knock on accounting impact would be somewhere in the region of £30m amortised in that accounting year. Given we're going to lose the best part of £200k a week in Raul and Wilson departing, and a semi-realistic scenario where Reed & TC dissappear which takes us to the best part of £300k a week gone, you could sign some 4-5 up and coming talented players (like Kevin etc.) who would collectively replace those salaries or less, meaning our SCR ratio looks a bit healthier getting rid of 4 and signing 5-6 players. That's before you even consider if we sign Chucky for circa £20m (which I think we should) and then you've just got the conversation about his wages, but we've already offloaded Adama's inflated wages so before we even sign anyone this summer we start in a slightly better position.

This is the problem. I know as a small/mid sized club we have to be careful how money is spent. I get it. But I still feel that if we have identified a player we really want, then I say get him in, even at a premium. Sure, it might limit ability to buy another player later down the line, but at least you get someone into the team that you really want. Rather than scramble at the end of window and grab 2nd, 3rd, 4th choices. JMHO

Our budget is limited but our lack of sell on value from any of our players, it is the downside to our squad age and failure to sell at the right time.

Broadly agree with that.
Anderson, Robinson and Leno can all do another 1-3 years IMO, happy for us to replace them as and when the right opportunities come up rather than prioritising them this summer.

Defence isn't our problem. Creating and scoring goals is. It was the same this time last year, so let's hope the club try and get the recruitment right this summer.

I like the idea of Danilo but no way we should be going in for Nelson who can't get minutes for Brentford. I think a spell in the Champ would do him good.
While I don't mind Meslier as backup the bottom 5 would all be uninspiring. March can't get minutes for Brighton and is turning 32, Tomiyasu barely played for Ajax and Malacia managed 15 mins all season. I've seen Hwang get a lot of criticism from Wolves fans

Sell Anderson and Reed
Our strategy to buy experience worked to establish ourselves in the PL, but we now need to pivot to a different model. SCR requires us to buy and develop more players, with the wage restrictions meaning we can't sign as many established (and expensive) players. Certainly signing players on a free is less appealing now, with their wage demands meaning they are less affordable than before.
We are now in a market where prospects are likely to cost £15m+, whilst we don't have the existing developed prospects to sell. It will be a painful transition and will require much better long-term strategic thinking from Tony K. Unfortunately I also think it makes a sale of the likes of Andersen much less likely, as we just can't afford to replace him.
I would go for just two new, might be within the budget. One striker to replace Raúl and a midfielder to replace Reed. I disagree with most, I believe our backline is fine though I'd like to see more rotation, Diop for Andersen (opposition dependent) and Cuenca in more often, perhaps giving Bassey a run at LB from time to time.
I like Berge / Lukić / Cairney's cameos but either a DM to push Berge forward or an AM that can't stop scoring would be on my list.
I love Raúl's effort but times up and we need a replacement.
I'd keep Chukwueze, somehow, buy or loan. I'm assuming Harry is off, so Bobb or Chukwueze would cover RW with Kevin or Iwobi on the left.
Other summer tasks, madate lots of jolluf rice for several players to bulk up; buy shooting boots for Sander and get Rodrigo to a confidence boosting shrink.
Our academy is nominally pretty strong, can we look to anyone from there to step up this year?

It's worlfd cup year
There is no way the owners will do anything in time for pre season
they have a built in excuse the world cup.
The manager, whoever that will be, will have a half baked squad as usual when it should be fully formed.
For the record and IMO we need a new centre half
two central midfileders
two wingers with proper pace and a second striker to back up the maligned Muniz.
Teye is a class act but far to injury prone, a replacement would be useful.
The issue of the manager should also have been resolved, that is just very poor management from on high. If Marco will not sign, get somebody else, not rocklet science.
We'll never get any of those in time.
Priority is a striker and at least one substantial upgrade in central midfield.

McBride was 35 when he returned to the States. If Kevin & Bobb could get a decent number of penalties next season, Raul would be worth keeping. But you don't often get that with ponderously slow attacking.

Think we need to sell someone to get funds, and Robinson is the only one i can think of as a possibility.
Danilo CM (30m)
Nelson LW (5m)
Pepi (35m)
Meslier GK (Free)
Hwang SC/LW/RW (5m)
Malacia LB (Free)
Tomiyasu RB/CB/LB (Free)
March RW (Free)
75m
Reed (4m)
Wilson (Free)
Robinson (22m)
Raul (Free)
Lecomte (Free)
Castagne (4m)
30m
That sort of window would see us finish bottom lol
Yes - Pepi and Danilo aside (the latter more likely to go to a bigger club for a higher fee) - I think we need more quality.
I also wouldn't sell Castagne and Robinson. This summer the priority is to sort out the central midfield and striker positions (2 signings in each), along with a left winger (assuming we sign Chuk to play on the right). The defence can be reviewed the following season. In the meantime, it will be interesting see how good Luc De Fougerolles is playing for Canada at the World Cup..

In general we need more goalscorers, we might see our top two scorers leave this summer.

You dont, and we will need a better goal scoring stratagy that winning penalties. I am currently at a loss as to where the goals will come from without Wilson and Raul

If we keep Robinson that he needs to go on some kinda of course for Crossing, or simply he stays back and Sess in front of him takes controll of that
West Ham sold rice and never replaced him and got relegated. The right time to sell is not always the right time for the good of the club

At this stage I think Sess should usually be the preferred starter anyhow (unless we specifically need Jedi's pure pace).
Keep him by all means but we really do have to find a way a) to improve his crossing but also b) to get more players making more intelligent runs to get onto the end of those crosses.

Yeah the issue was them blowing £40m on Max Kilman among others... Rice was always going to leave, nothing they could do about that.
With Wolves going down, might there be some interest in Arokodare? Have always liked this player, and had hoped FFC would have had a nibble last summer.

West Ham spent c2/3 of the Rice funds on direct replacements in Edson Alvarez & James Ward Prowse (having really wanted Joao Palhinha). The issue was poor recruitment rather than "not replacing".
Although, as an aside, Alvarez on loan might not be a terrible way to supplement our squad next year.

He is an absolute distater of a footballer
Slow attacking a feature of this season under Marcos management.
New manager who knows.
Well everything will stall until the manager situation is sorted....
Other clubs are already looking around and making enquiries, and granted yes the manager situation is completely unacceptable, we are still at ground zero with no movement whatsoever...
The Danilo ship has sailed top champions league clubs want him

I was just going to say .. I'd like us to be in for Jesus (wages aside) just seen Arsenal would accept 20m for him
We should be looking at new, younger talent, unfortunately for me Jesus falls into the deadwood and damaged goods offering we seem to be in for to save cash.

Konate is going to be a free transfer. Why not get him in and sell Andersen for £20m to pay for his wages?

Chuk
A Striker
A second striker but it'll be someone from our academy
A backup CB which is likely LDF
We'll yet again not get a CM

You never know until you try.
Finishing 11th we have the same budget as last season with our costs being similar to last season but without Raul and Wilson's wages.

...which, of course, is what we have lacked for a while now.
Perhaps we should put a classified ad in the Racing Post:
'Wanted.
Playmaker, with an eye for goal. Normally plays either as an attacking or central midfielder, and who possesses technical skills, vision, and stamina, . A good passer and striker of the ball with either foot. Should be known for his work-rate on the pitch, as well as his ability to interpret the game.'
[Health warning. I lifted these word from the profile of one F.Magath.]

This year we will have the extra money from the riverside being open. We will have a budget for before June 30th and a budget after. If we really tried to sign pepi early then that money is still there to spend before the 30th June. so after the 30th June we should have Kevin, Bobb and pepi transfer fee available.

I read somewhere that the Riverside isn't making as much as anticipated, it is early days though. I believe SCR is all about running costs not the cost of players, i.e. Wages.

its players and head coach wages, amortized transfer fees and agent fees up to 85% of revenue. Between 85%-115% incurs fines and over 115% is a 6 points penalty.
Off chance of Silva staying recruitment for next season.
Ridiculous but normal for our joke recruitment team.
IF Silva goes, then all the above is irrelevent. A new manager might want us to play completely different formations/tactics and therefore require differrent types of players; although a half-decent mobile striker will be essential whoever takes over.
