Title: De Fougerolles.
Post by: Twig on June 12, 2026, 09:59:31 PM
I thought he looked a real talent. Solid defensively but particularly notable that he was prepared to get forward and try some overlaps.

He definitely looks older than his years, and in a good way. Filled out loads since I last saw him and is very assured on the ball.

Lets hope his trajectory carries on in the right direction.

Didn't see the game but great to hear the positives.

His defensive game was good and his passing out of defence was excellent. I don't think he gave the ball away once. Hope he is included in our first team squad when he returns.  ::scarf::

He was very impressive the whole 96 minutes.

Pleased for the boy - have to factor in Bosnia are rubbish - I mean they are rubbish. Be a completely different kettle of fish stepping into the Prem.

TVs not the best medium to assess, but from what I could see there's a good player there.

Centre backs take time to strengthen up.  Next season may come too soon.  Do I really want him up against the best strikers in teams that target weakness mercilessly.  Not yet.  Would be delighted to be proven wrong.

Not in a 2 CB set-up but might fit 3 centre backs...didn't he start out as a right back? Could he give cover to Tete? Would save some money.

Was impressed as soon as I saw those pre-season friendlies a couple of years ago and the cup tie against Ipswich - just looks the part, and has poise and pace.

Would have him in ahead of the dinosaur that Andersen has become - had enough of his sluggishness, incessant holding and that brain dead tackle again Bournemouth was the final straw for me.

Diop did ok when he came in, but LDF is ready imo, and I'd be happy for him to be involved now

The flexibility to be able to play three at the back effectively is appealing.  In that formation the ball is going to be played into our channels and our defenders need pace and be good at winning one v ones.  Bassey, Diop and Tete would seem perfect for it and I can see how LdeF and/or Cuenca could fit in.  The problem in that formation is Andersen, it asks him all the wrong questions.  The only place to put him is the middle and deep and that gives clever attackers too much space.

Difficult to judge as he wasn't put under a lot of pressure by the Bosnia front line. But tidy enough, did not give away the ball and kept his position. Another 3 games (at least) to assess him.

I did like the Palace CB Richards for USA last night. And the chap alongside him wasn't too bad either. At times in the first half he had a touch of the Beckenbauers about him. What was his name again? Ah yes, Tim Ream...

His first touch is very good, and seems to be able read the game with good positioning.
He judges the flight of the ball very well, which is a testament to the coaching he has had.
I feel he should be part of the first team squad next season 2026/27. Full back more likely.
Could save us an awful lot of money.

Bosnia may hardly be top Premiership standard but, in fairness, they're not terrible. Ranked 63 in the world. Some dodgy teams around them, but on the other hand Bulgaria are 87, Ghana 73 and Republic of Ireland 58, so not complete tosh. I expect England might have a competitive game against Ghana.

Just had a look at Luc De Fougerolles and his 71 minutes against Qatar, Wasn't under a lot of pressure, playe mainly defensely no runs down the wing. Involved in second goal. Second half moved over to the left, seems comfortable all across the back. Stiffer opposition next game against the Swiss

For youth level he played across the back line from left to right and including centre backs.I dont think he's quick enough for full back but i still think back 3 as he is not the tallest wood be a massive problem as Bassey is not the tallest shame he isn't more skilled to play defensive midfield he is 21 soon hope he could be in squad without number a loan overhere would be good with lumps lower league would he be tall enough in flat back 4.

Unfortunately he's too small to play as a meaningful CB. He's down on the internet as six foot. Looks more like 5' 9 to me.
Doesn't mean he won't continue growing a bit.

On the other hand he looks like a calm, composed and tidy player.

For those that haven't seen him play he's more a Bobby Moore/Aaron Hughes type of player imho. As others have said i hope he progresses as he has a touch of calm about him.

Having watched him in both the Bosnia and Qatar games, I will say he has played pretty well. I agree with others that Bosnia was not that big a challenge, and Qatar, going down to 9 players after that awful tackle that broke a Canadian player's leg, offered no real challenge defensively.

I'd love to see him in and around the first team next season, but it may be better for him to go on loan in the Championship.

On tonight's performance against Switzerland I'd say he needs another loan. Doesn't look anywhere near Premier League ready. He was poor for both Switzerland goals with 30 minutes of the game remaining.

Not his finest game currently against Switzerland. Looking vulnerable against decent pace. Still think a season in Championship is the best place for him next season. He has something about him though and still young enough to develop.
Certainly not ready for premiership.

If he becomes as good as Aaron Hughes we'll have a genuine gem on our hands.

What would we give for Brede and Aaron back again (on top form).

Delighted for Luc, and as the son of Canadian, really proud and thrilled for Canada to progress to the World Cup knockout out stages for the first time.

For context, their record before this WC was six matches, 0 points, having played in the 1986 and 2022 tournaments.

He's getting great experience which can only hasten his development. And with Canada through he gets yet another big test.

Spot on. I'm afraid to say he does not have the physical attributes to be a premier league CB. Speed is an absolute necessity in the modern game.
Wish him all the best and I'm sure he will have a decent football career but not at this level.
I understand the clamour of a fans for young players to be given an opportunity, especially home grown talent but we need a reality check on certain players ...

Standard so high now it is ridiculous, the 3 Ss, speed, strength, skill, if you are lacking in any you will be found out... we are OK in goal and at the back as things stand although any upgrades be nice, but really need to add 2 or 3 gems in midfield and up front, big summer ahead, as ever. Not too sorry to see two players passed their peak already off the wage bill. We thank them for their service and move on.

Pretty much agree with most of the sentiment here.  Not ready for the Prem.  Looks like could be nice player, although last game looked totally overmatched, slipping/falling several times and party to two goals scored against.  Was surprised though to see his physicality/body structure.  Looks like he could play that position at top level, many here lead me to believe too small for center back.  Me thinks he could play that position, just a little more beefing up to do.  But, I do agree some seasoning in the Champ might be best for him....

A 6 month championship loan would be the ideal test. He's a talented lad and the WC will give him confidence. Playing at Dender last year was good for game time but also a brutal season playing in a weak side.

If he could cut it at Champ for 6 months, then bring him back in the fold in January if he does well. Finding a club to do that will be tough though.

I thought he had quite an influence when he came on. Looked solid in defence with very good positional awareness. His passes out of defence were always positive and he had a hand in starting the move that led to their goal.

He looked decent when he came on. Good for his confidence. Canada probably just shaded it in the end. Not sure who they'll get in the next round.

I liked the fact that the referee wasn't buying any playacting. You had to attempt murder to get a free kick out there.

A trend that should continue.

I felt he was quick to blow for fouls on defenders but slow to blow for fouls on attackers.
