Pretty negative result for England in respect of temperature. 1am kick off time prediction 26% +, 7pm kick of prediction 20%.
All seems a little dodgy to me tbh.
England need to be ready to appeal if any disruption around thier hotel the night before as seen in Mexicos previous game.

Apologies, times and temps should read in reverse.
And a swift u turn from FIFA when everyone pointed out that dragging the kick off forward by seven hours at a couple of days notice was unhelpful to the teams and traveling fans. A lot of fans were complaining they were due to be landing in Mexico at the new kick off time.
It also seems that if the forecast is correct, the main effects of the storm will have passed by the early evening (their time) and the proposed lunchtime kick off would be more likely to be disrupted by the weather.
All in all, a change to the kick off looks like it would have been more detrimental to England's chances in terms of pre match preparations for playing at the high altitude and the higher temperature, plus more likelihood of the game being disrupted, so it looks like a bullet dodged.
Relax, so far we have seen the so called smaller countries either beat more established higher ranked countries or have taken them all the way.
Look at Cape Verde yesterday took Argentina all the way and lost to an own goal in extra time.
It shows there are no easy games anywhere at any time.
Mexico are at home in the comfort of their home in the sky, with the high altitude in their favour etc etc.
But all the pressure is on them, they will be overwhelming favourites to the neutral and the uneducated.
However, Englands only pressure is to get their act together and ensure the back 4 play as a unit and don't allow too much space between defence and midfield.
Pickford is facing play all of the time and he has to direct players in defensive areas all the time every second.
So if we have a launching pad to play to our strengths which is high tempo attacking football and one and two touch passing movements.
The best form of defence can be attack.
We cannot have any passengers and I would tell the players to play without fear.
Do not respect them make them respect you.
Keep our shape, balance and depth when we do not have the ball.
Watch out for the Mexicans diving to try and earn a cheap penalty.
All players must win their own battles.
If we lose the ball, win it back straight away and support the man on the ball.
Pass and move, give and go.
That will sow seeds of doubt in the oppositions mind.
It's a simple game, with the object of the exercise is to score more goals than the opponent's.
It's all on the day, stats do not win games, players do with hearts the size of a football.
I'm assuming Mexico had a bigger brown envelope
The Athletic/NY Times claim the real reason FIFA wanted to make the change was to protect the fans. Apparently, 4 people died in the carnage after Mexico's victory over Uruguay. FIFA reckoned an early kickoff would be easier to police.

Well, Michael Olise was born in Hammersmith. He really ought to come home and put on the famous white and black of Fulham (too late for England but I'll settle for Fulham).
Raul so close to scoring, great save from Pickford. England playing like Fulham passing around in a horse shoe getting nowhere near the goal.

This is the best Raul has played in years I'd say.
Konsa and Guehi is such a bang average CB pairing. Both of Raul's chances have seen him in acres of space because neither CB has any idea where he is
He plays like this for Mexico all the time.
Hes probably had more quality balls into the box this half than Fulham put in all season
We need slab head at the back.
Been a Great match so far, living up to the billing.
I have been very impressed with England and his they have coped with the situation, but Mexico looked deadly in the last 5 minutes of the first half too... This game could go anywhere yet.
Pickford maybe having his best ever game for England, 2 Great saves so far.

Personally I think that Mexico pen is as soft as it gets. This sport is kind of turning into a joke.

Wingbackless wonders
Peculiar game, England played well for the most part and deserved the win. I kept being reminded of our victory over Blackburn a quarter of a century ago when we got reduced to ten men at 0-1 and went on to win 2-1.
From what I have seen, the major decisions were the correct ones and as the Mexicans got more and more desperate it is not surprising that so many players over reacted and the card count rocketed up. Also, kudos to Mr Tuchel has shown he is not afraid to make difficult calls and getting them right.
I wont get carried away and say England can win it, but a trip to the semi-finals is not out of the question.
Great Match, epic, I was surprised and impressed ...well done England one of their greatest results in recent history.

Guvn'r giving the refs some stick.
It was ten against twelve and England still beat them on their own patch.
They can't take that away from us.

Good to see Dan Burn getting a run out in the centre of defence, playing his heart out just like the others.
I thought Tomas got his subs and tactics right after we went down to ten.
Even though we were one man shy, we stood our ground.
I thought the ref had a good game. In that atmosphere and under that pressure he got most things right. There were many decisions where a weaker ref would have buckled.

I thought Mexico were the better team, 11v11 and 11v10, England were the more clinical team. I thought Pickford was MOTM as he made some brilliant saves, including the one that happened at 0-0 when Raul had a diving header attempt.
I don't get the comments that the referees were favouring Mexico, the referees were okay. He actually missed a crystal clear red for Quansah too, that was rightfully given in the end with the help of VAR.

Huge performance in the circumstances, hopefully they can get some momentum.
Great performamce overall but extra shout outs to Pickford, who has been a bit shakey at times in other games, but was rock solid. Bellingham outstanding as he has been most matches, funny to think some people thought he may not even are the squad.

Agreed, Gordon was ridiculous too.
What impressed me about Pickford wasn't the two saves he made (though the low down one was exceptional), it was the way he commanded his area during that last 25 minute onslaught. Not sure how many punches he made but can't remember seeing a keeper do that so well for that length of time.
Bellingham is just a ridiculous player. He did a bit of skill 2nd half and left two of their players on the floor and one running in the opposite direction. At the end he could barely walk.
Special nod to Gordon (who I'm not a huge fan of) and the defenders that came on. You've got to go back to Euro 96 v Holland for a better performance IMO.

Difficult thing to prove that one (if it weren't for...) Mexico were poor considering they played half the game against ten men. With a slightly bizarre 12 minutes played at the end of the game and some debatable calls. I don't think they were the better team first half, I thought they were average going forward to be honest. Second half they were very obvious in what they were trying to do, very little guile or surprise in their play.

63% possession in the first half, 7-3 shots in favour of Mexico, 4-2 corners. They were the better team, you were more clinical. Your third shot was a very weak attempt from Gordon. If you take of your England goggles and make an unbiased appraisal of the first half, you'd say Mexico were better.

We may have to agree to disagree on this one. Pickford had to make two saves (first a good one) in the first half. Their goal came from a free kick where their player wasn't even touched. Yep, they piled a bit of pressure on, but with lumped balls into the box. The had one big chance according to stats, England had two.
No England goggles here, I've spoken to Scots, welsh and dutch who all watched the game and one said it looked like a cup game, a good team against a lower league team that tried really hard!

Yeah, a lower league team has 63% possession against a good team. What an absolute joke. If you really think England played better than Mexico, you'll be in for a rude awakening if you play like that again against a better team than Mexico. You won because you were more clinical.

Here's the actual law-
Disciplinary Action: Contact can result in a yellow card for a reckless challenge, or a straight red card for excessive force and endangering an opponent's safety.
It is worth noting that if an opponent recklessly ducks or lunges their head down into an area where a player's foot is already in play, the referee may determine that the opponent created the dangerous situation themselves, which can result in no foul being called against the player with the high boot.
After reviewing it, his foot was waist high as the opponent ducked so low. Very harsh IMO.

I presume if Raul had kicked Dan Burn in the head he would have gotten a red. Doesn't seem like the tournament is against things like bicycle kicks but they expect the players to be aware and in control enough not to injure other players.

Hard to say really, but if the laws are genuinely there to protect players, then you could argue yes. It is dangerous (and exceptionally brave from Burn who could see the whole thing unfolding)!
I'm not English and thought England were the better side in the first half. Not by a lot, mind you, but better. As someone who has more experience with watching Mexico at the Azteca than most here, I expected that they would control possession, especially early on but I thought England dealt with that fairly well. Mexico may have had more of the ball and more shots in the first, but England created better chances (.75xG v .44xG).

Just looked it up in the IFAB (page 118)
"Playing in a dangerous manner:
Playing in a dangerous manner is any action that, while trying to play the ball, threatens injury to someone (including the player themself) and includes preventing a nearby opponent from playing the ball for fear of injury. A scissors or bicycle kick is permissible provided that it is not dangerous to an opponent."
The way I read that, it's mostly on the player doing the action.
As the dust settles, I find myself reflecting not on the goals, penalties, decisions or substitutions, but on how the heck Jordan Henderson is in effect using his one good arm to hold up a mirror to my own character and emotional maturity.
That he's a Brentford player, keeping a far better player in Wharton out of the squad, that he's dull to watch, none of that I mind at all. It's just that certain things stick in my memory and when, in an effort to sell his book, he said that the lowest point in his career was when Liverpool wanted to sell him to Fulham, my brain says "he's just creating a personal redemption story, let it go", but my gut tells me "he thinks he's better than us"
My head, my heart, they feel desperately sorry for his post-game mishap. My reactions really should stop there, and if yours do, you're a better person than me. Because there's a stubborn portion of my gut reaction that involves the concept of karma paying a visit. Says more about me than Mr Henderson, I know that.
Personally I couldn't care less about Henderson. Why the hell he was even picked in the 1st place is beyond me. It's not like he was gonna get much game time anyway.

Why the hell he was even picked in the 1st place is beyond me. It's not like he was gonna get much game time anyway.
Out of order matey, no need for that.
And there was no need for him 2 say that Liverpool trying to flog him 2 us 'was the lowest point of my career' but he did. So I'll leave my original point as it is :welcome1:
Well if you actually check it was not the worst day of his life about going to Fulham, it was the fact that Liverpool were willing to pass him on, it had nothing to do with it being Fulham, it could have been anyone.
