Quote from: SerbianLad on July 06, 2026, 11:26:38 AMI thought Mexico were the better team, 11v11 and 11v10, England were the more clinical team. I thought Pickford was MOTM as he made some brilliant saves, including the one that happened at 0-0 when Raul had a diving header attempt.

I don't get the comments that the referees were favouring Mexico, the referees were okay. He actually missed a crystal clear red for Quansah too, that was rightfully given in the end with the help of VAR.

I hope you beat Norway in your next match. I really don't like the way they are playing football at this tournament.

Bitter sounding post. Pickford as MOTM says it all when it's pretty obvious who the MOTM was!  :slap:
Bellingham was superb, non stop, my motm.  What an engine Rice has, he looked exhausted right from the off, but never stopped.

Sadly she wasn't

Bellingham was great too, and a close second for me.

Bassey the warrior

Huge performance in the circumstances, hopefully they can get some momentum.

Great performamce overall but extra shout outs to Pickford, who has been a bit shakey at times in other games, but was rock solid. Bellingham outstanding as he has been most matches, funny to think some people thought he may not even are the squad.

Spence has also impressed defensively, doesn't offer much going forward but with his pace he's hard to get past.

Agreed, Gordon was ridiculous too.

What impressed me about Pickford wasn't the two saves he made (though the low down one was exceptional), it was the way he commanded his area during that last 25 minute onslaught. Not sure how many punches he made but can't remember seeing a keeper do that so well for that length of time.

Bellingham is just a ridiculous player. He did a bit of skill 2nd half and left two of their players on the floor and one running in the opposite direction. At the end he could barely walk.

Special nod to Gordon (who I'm not a huge fan of) and the defenders that came on. You've got to go back to Euro 96 v Holland for a better performance IMO.

If ir weren't for Pickford, you would have lost, despite Bellingham's great performance. That's why I said he was my MOTM, but I was told I'm being bitter. He stayed calm under incredible pressure. Made brilliant saves and punches and was instrumental in your win.

Difficult thing to prove that one (if it weren't for...) Mexico were poor considering they played half the game against ten men. With a slightly bizarre 12 minutes played at the end of the game and some debatable calls. I don't think they were the better team first half, I thought they were average going forward to be honest. Second half they were very obvious in what they were trying to do, very little guile or surprise in their play.

63% possession in the first half, 7-3 shots in favour of Mexico, 4-2 corners. They were the better team, you were more clinical. Your third shot was a very weak attempt from Gordon. If you take of your England goggles and make an unbiased appraisal of the first half, you'd say Mexico were better.

Fortunately it's a game of two halves and overall England were the better team !

We may have to agree to disagree on this one. Pickford had to make two saves (first a good one) in the first half. Their goal came from a free kick where their player wasn't even touched. Yep, they piled a bit of pressure on, but with lumped balls into the box. The had one big chance according to stats, England had two.
No England goggles here, I've spoken to Scots, welsh and dutch who all watched the game and one said it looked like a cup game, a good team against a lower league team that tried really hard!

Yeah, a lower league team has 63% possession against a good team. What an absolute joke. If you really think England played better than Mexico, you'll be in for a rude awakening if you play like that again against a better team than Mexico. You won because you were more clinical.

Only game you've played well so far was against Croatia. I thought you were absolutely phenomenal in that game. Your best performance in many years.

My opinion, clearly not yours.
Possession is great until you realise that it wins you nothing.

I don't disagree that we need to play better, especially against Norway who have impressed me.

I emphasised possession in the last post as you compared the match to a lower league opponent against a good team. That's a joke. Name one match in which a lower league opponent had 63% possession.

I didn't if you read my post properly, I was quoting my Dutch cousin.

You did, but why even put that, if you don't agree with it, at least partially.

Regardless, you clearly think England was better, I don't. So let's leave it at that.

I don't understand how the Declan Rice yellow wasn't a red. Regardless of what the defender was doing, it was spikes to the face.

cookieg

The Scots had passion and they are going home. The Mexicans had possession and they are out. There is only one stat that matters.

He has gone for the ball, the player ducked down to head the ball, I thought a reprimand would have been sufficient.

If the defender was on the ground and he caught a boot to the face would it be any different? I thought the onus was still on the injuring party to not injure the injured party. Balogun's red from last week comes to mind.

Agreed, noticeable that Raul didn't get a yellow for his overhead kick that was at Dan Burn head height, not chest height like Rice's.
