My wife and friends are Sunderland fans and they hate the way he left them for a money move to villa. They think he is a greedy bastard and nothing more. You would think that seeing they got 24 mill for him they would get over it.

What did Darren B£nt do at Sunderland? In his first season at SAFC he become a cult hero, adored by all the fans, scored near 30 goals, spoke a lot about how much he loves the club. Spoke about how he'd love to become an all-time legend and the club's all time leading goalscorer, surpassing the likes of Super Kev who he said he knew all about and had the utmost respect for him. Kept us up that season.
After that season things started going wrong. Gyan signed, Welbeck signed and B£nt realised he wasn't the "big fish" anymore. He missed a few games through injury and his body language changed massively. His goals dried up and he wouldn't even bother celebrating team mate's goals. When we played Newcastle at home in mid-January, it was a massive game due to the 5-1 thumping we'd received at SJP, we drew 1-1 with Gyan equalising in the last minute, as the team celebrated B3nt stood on the halfway line. The day after news filtered through that he'd handed in a transfer request and Villa had bid £24m for him, and more news came out that he'd been in a Birmingham hotel since BEFORE Villa's bid came in. The deal was done by the Tuesday evening and his press conference was totally disrespectful to SAFC. No thanks to Bruce for saving his career, no thanks to the fans who'd took him as one of their own, no thanks to the club for resurrecting his England career. Just a load of crawling to Villa.
The bloke stands for everything that is wrong with football. Money-grabbing, lying, odious, mercenary, big-headed toad. He'll score goals for you, no doubt, but I can guarantee it will end sourly. Just like Ipswich, Charlton, Spurs, Sunderland and Villa. More trouble than he's worth. He deserved the reception he got on Saturday and more.

Thanks for the post. Perhaps this is why we loaned him, rather than bought him. I agree he has imploded everywhere he has been. He gives the side he joins one good season and then thats it. I'm really glad we did a loan deal now that I've read your post.
We here at Fulham get frustrated we do so many loan deals but truth is, it is the safer prudent option sometimes.

Yeah he didn't leave you guys in very good circumstances. Personally I don't buy into this 'love the club' or 'do it for the fans' nonsense that players spout these days because if a better deal is available, they will take it. Luis Suarez behaviour this summer has been very similar. The positive of signing Bent this season though is that it is world cup year so he will be hungry. Hoping he hits double figures this year.
