Title: Would you??????
Post by: tommy on January 31, 2016, 11:45:06 PM
So John Terry is leaving Chelsea in the summer after they announced that Chelsea are not offering him a new deal. He's still a talented CB and a million miles ahead of the ones we have. But could you ever see yourself cheering him on in a Fulham shirt? Could you put your disgust and hatred of the man to one side for the good of the team?

6 months ago I'd have said absolutely no chance, but now, with the way our defence is playing, I just dont know. I'm so desperate to see us defend well that I'm actually thinking............. Na, I cant say it.

So what about you guys?

It's a no for me for several reasons.

1. He is past his prime
2. He is not the kind of person I would prefer to represent Fulham
3. His wages would be way to high for us under an embargo and FPP rules

He will more than likely go to the States to play for some team.

Wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire. Bloke is a scum bag and easily the most over rated defender of my generation.

This came up when Terry dared to park in a disabled spot. Better not get into that again.

Saying he isn't nice enough to play in a fulham shirt is pathetic. I couldn't care less what a footballer was like in his personal life as long as he plays well on the pitch and respects the fans and the club. Although there some exceptions out there of players I detest and wouldn't want them to sign regardless of their quality. Even though its past impossible to get Terry for various reasons I would take him in a heartbeat. He would be so good for our defense.

No. He really wouldn't. He is as poor as any of our defenders. He needs a world class player next to him to mop up his continuous mistakes. He is slow and has the turning circle of a oil tanker.
He is seen as a warrior because he "puts his body on the line for the sake of the club", but that's usually after he has made a massive mistake in the first place. I'd rather have Frank (OGGIE) Sinclair than John (PIKEY) Terry.

No, no, a hundred times no.  Morally bankrupt is a polite description.  Amongst others:
insulting American tourists after 9/11, night club assaults, indiscreet extra marital activity, including with teammate Wayne Bridge's wife,
taking money for tours of Chelsea's training ground, racist abuse.  And he has piggy eyes.

It seems that Terry has finished in England and is of to some lucrative overseas posting so the question does not arise.
Like to see us building a defence that could stay together for a few seasons rather than one patched up with one season stop gaps.

If he played for Fulham he'd be a legend. You're just being bitter because he plays for Chelsea. Comparing him to our defenders is embarrasing.

Yes - wouldn't care if Atilla the Hun signed for us if he could keep the ball out of our net, and think Terry even past his best is better than anyone we currently have.

It's got nothing to do with him playing for Chelsea. I can appreciate good players, which he is not. Add to that, his lack of morals in every respect, and you have someone I dislike immensely.
If he was that good a defender, why weren't Chelsea as good before the Abramovich bank came and partnered him with the likes of Carvalho. With whom he had his best spell at the club with. Because Carvalho cleaned up after him.
If he played for us, and behaved the way he has, he's not be a legend in my eyes.

So how do you explain last season when they won the league and only lost a handfull of times? Who was in defense? It was Terry and Cahill. They had the best defensive record in the league.

If thats the case hes done well for himself for 18 years being a fraud! I never understand these comments....best centre back of my generation!

In regards to the OP, yes i'd take him in a heartbeat. But he will be off to Italy or the MLS i reckon, shame as i still think he could do a job in the Prem.

Can we steer clear of any unsubstantiated allegations please. Some of you may question his morals but the depth of his pockets aren't in doubt and the last thing we need are his legal reps having a look at this thread...

I seem to remember when Fulham consisted of mainly ageing and past it players, many members on this Forum, quite rightly, complained about it, and banged on about how we needed to rebuild, using young, hungry players.

Why is it then, that as soon as an ageing, past it player is out of contract, do many of you put their name forward, as a 'good fit' for Fulham? Vidic, and now Terry, to name but two. The fact that neither are as good as many people state, is irrelevant. We do not need players here that no-one else wants. They are not wanted by their club for a reason.

Ledley King, when fit, was a far, far better player all round. Ferdinand was a far better player. If even go so far in saying Woodgate would get in over him if I was England Manager. He's gonna win leagues and cups, when the club has a basic endless pot of money. Like City have. In MY opinion (note those three words!) he is, without doubt, the most over rated player in the world.

It would never happen anyway.

You are right it would never happen, but I won't feel ashamed in saying that I would be happy to get him for a year. Far better than any defender that we currently have on our books and how many goals from corners would he have saved this season, lots!!!

Then you have a very different attitude to our team than I do, nothing personal.

Just occasionally in football as in life you have to make sacrifices and I would rather try and find another way than have someone like him in my team.

Of course we don't know the intimate details of all those who played for us but Peter Storey is the only player I can think of that's been a real scum bag.

Anyway, far to much time being spent on something that will never happen but he is a scum bag!

Is the main anti John Terry theme due to the fact that he plays for our closest neighbour but not a rival these days!! Really not sure how you can knock and insult somebody who has been 1 of the best English central defenders for a lot of years, like him or not? I don't like him either!

I agree with Blanco.  I find him repulsive as a person, but I'd want him in the back for us.  Think of the situational knowledge he could teach the 'kids'.  One thing worries me: How fast the body of a player, no matter how accomplished he was in his prime, can deteriorate.  Example: Kobe Bryant of the NBA basketball team, the L.A. Lakers.  In little over a year, the man is a shadow of his former self, and not without trying.  The knees go.  The back hurts.  The explosive burst speed gone.  Reflexes diminished.  The mind wills it, but the body just says 'no'.  Not that Terry was ever fast.  Far from it.  And yes, he does have the turning radius of an oil tanker.  :)  But no one reads the game as well as John Terry.  He knows where he needs to be, and when, so he doesn't have to be fast.  He never was fast.  But his football IQ is off the charts.  Yeats used to write about being able to separate the dancer from the dance.  I think you'd have to do the same with John Terry the person vs. the football player.  Don't let the person influence how you rate his skills and ability.  I just worry about how much that ability has deteriorated, given Chelsea's performance this season, and what two or three games I've seen on TV.  But he's likely going for big money somewhere, and I don't think Khan will offer enough, if he were so inclined.  And then there's the ego matter to consider.  We aren't near the top or even middle of this league.   On the other hand, it is London, so as not to be disruptive on his personal situation, and a smart manager might make inquiries...

There's reason to knock and insult him -- plenty of them. Quite apart from 'maintaining good relations with the wives/girl friends of his teammates,' and the criminal activities of him and his family, there's the incident of Terry and Lampard -- drunk as lords -- taunting American tourists stranded in London after 9-11.

Whatever technique he might have left on the pitch won't benefit our kids nearly as much as being exposed to his disgusting character could hurt him.

I do have a favorite John Terry moment, though. It was when Dempsey blindsided him and left him counting flights of birdies round his head. I cheered myself hoarse when that happened.
