He looked keen, shame he is out of his depth in this league and can you imagine him playing in the PL (LOL)?

As has been observed before, he is clearly keen and seems a real team player. Shame he is totally ineffective.

I wonder if we will be able to sell him in the Summer, if we do it will be at a huge financial loss. More than likely be sent out on loan (abroad) and sink into oblivion.

Well played?? He was borderline embarrassing when he came on, he has the strength of a new born lamb! Look, I really love his passion for the cause which is plain to see when he joins in with celebrations, but he offers nothing and I don't understand what a few fans are seeing when they try to defend him

Were you watching the same game? I was right in front of him when he came on, thought he played miles better than piazon. Showed aggression and pressure when the rest of the team wasn't. Injected the energy we needed when we looked like we could be in trouble.

Genuine point here. I wonder, should we get there, if he would be more effective in the premier league. Slower paced and less physical then the championship. I'm not saying he's going to be a world beater, just a good addition. I for one really appreciated his effort last night and love his passion and attitude when he plays. One of the first to celebrate with whoever scores. Was signed for a lot of money and reduced to a bit part and not one hint of a silk or strop even though he was arguably (other than mitrovic) the signing with the most pedigree this year.

OK so the suggestion is that we build a team for the prem around our weakest players.  Sounds like a plan.

As regards piazon I think he mucks up our style of play by continually drifting into the middle, he did it last night from both flanks, this stops the full backs from bombing on as they have no cover. No surprise that when ak came on Fred started to raid at will. When teams clog the middle we do not need a wide man to continually drift in. To me shows how much we miss Floyd.

Premier League, less physical and slower pace than the Championship!
You're having a laugh!

The challenges may be less agricultural in the PL but really?   064.gif

I like Fontes passion, Could be easy for him to sulk with Mitro coming in but he looks more enthusiastic than anyone. Huge credit even if hes slightly dissapointed on the pitch.

He is definitely passionate and a team player - seems pretty popular with the others

However he is ineffective and doesn't contribute very much - I can't remember one positive thing he did last night -

Piazon is a far better player ..... but then again Ayite and Kebano are more dynamic - we need Kebano for the playoffs

Fonte tries and his attitude could make him popular but opponents easily take him out of the game and he becomes ineffective. Much prefer Kebano and Kamara instead of him.

That's a scary thought! Fonte being a part of our (hopefully) PL squad? I don't think my heart could stand it. He seems like a really nice person but for everyones sake he should move on in the summer. We can't pay that kind of wages for someone whose main contribution has been celebrating his teammates goals. His performance yesterday was the same as always: too easily pushed off the ball and no impact on the game whatsoever.

Good to see Rui on the pitch last night.  Will be an asset if/when promoted.  Not surprising in my view that Joka clearly rates him unlike some on this board.

He was on for 16 mins and we scored the winning goal.

He came on for 11 minutes when we were getting battered by qpr and we didn't concede.

After both of these games, we have multiple page posts that contain nasty little digs of one our players. According to our players, Fonte is a "proper player" (TC's words).

Rui Fonte is a key squad player. That's it. He's played so little this year.

I suppose all I would say, when you find yourself typing what you think are your clever little insults of one of our players, who is appreciated by many fans, all coaches and players, how about you just....don't. We all know what you think.

So what we are saying is that there should be no criticism of any of our players on this MB? Isn't that just sycophancy?

You are not alone Beds - like you I just don't get it. There are so many pages having a go at the guy - okay to a point  but it is out of proportion and unnecessary when you consider that even most of those that don't like him admit he has the right attitude and is a team player. Combine this with the fact that we are on the run that we are - won again last night and yet they still want to put the boot in. I thought one player had a stinker last night but wouldn't dream of coming on here and hanging him out to dry  - but some just want to have a go . Apparently we are "snowflakes ' - for wanting to support our players . It's a shame that they can't show the same class that Fonte does with his attitude to his teammates and FFC.

Thank you for your correction - as I did not find it that clear . However, you are also mistaken - I am not asking for him ( Fonte - for clarity ) to start  - I just don't like how he comes on as a sub and people on this board dive in to have a go at him . I hope that makes it clear

shouldn't we as fans appreciate every player?

I think the difference with those who like him and those like yourself is they are possibly objective enough to look at him and say "He has qualities, maybe not suited for championship and given the performance of other players he doesn't deserve to start, but he's a member of the squad who Slav continually has in the matchday 18 and has sent him on at crucial times"
Ream hated by many early on
AK hated by many early on
Two examples of current players who to various degrees have proved people wrong.
I hope Fonte does the same. I thought last night he did ok. Made a very good tackle just outside the box at one stage and was involved in some good play. Yes was bundled off ball a few times, needs to be stronger, but did better than many are giving him credit for.

And it seems also we have a player who actually enjoys it when the team scores and he's not involved and on the bench. And yet that seems to be a black mark against him as well. Clearly teammates like him and he likes the club. I'm sure he disappointed he hasn't scored more as we all are.

Surely if you think he is that good you should be calling for him to start ?
shouldn't we as fans appreciate every player?

I think the difference with those who like him and those like yourself is they are possibly objective enough to look at him and say "He has qualities, maybe not suited for championship and given the performance of other players he doesn't deserve to start, but he's a member of the squad who Slav continually has in the matchday 18 and has sent him on at crucial times"

Enjoys it when team mates score !!!! Ha Ha Ha  big deal .

It's after about the 40th page saying the same thing over and over again, I do tend to feel a little protective over one of our players. Maybe I'm on my own.

But, you lot carry on. Knock yourself out lads.
What makes me laugh .All you Fonte appreciation society members
have been very silent .The moment he makes a sub appearance ,they
come on here with their comments.

this is my point. You watch a bench and lots of subs take very little interest in a game, they rush off down the tunnel. Is it a big deal we have a player who to me is looking at team first his position second. Then yes it is.

You think footballers are robots? You need passion from your teammates, and you get it from Fonte.

He may not have done much on the pitch, but I'm sure he's a big influence off it.

Which is where he has spent most of his time this year...off it... fortunately for us!! We have 20k fans who are just as passionate about supporting the team and none of them have cost 9m, why do we keep doing these RF threads, most of us know he is a nice, very nice guy, but he will never make the grade as a FFC 1st choice player whichever division we play in! I feel very sorry for him and I wish him the very best next season when he is playing for another club!
