What is it with some of our fans.
Almost all stayed for the trophy but by the time the players did the slide the majority around us had left?
What have they got to go to that's more important or more fun???
Some people are odd.
On a separate note how classless were some of the villa fans, women being called slags, dads with their kids having guys shouting in their faces - brave huh?? Never had a problem with them before but the ones I saw deserve no more than they got with the result

Some people had trains/coaches to catch, I'm sorry what was so important about the players doing a slide, this was well after everyone had experienced some great celebrations of players dancing running around enjoying it with the fans, i certainly don't have any regrets that I missed it.
I thought everyone stayed, unless you mean Villa.
I left after the photos on the podium on the pitch, by that time I had to get home, I do have other responsibilities as a grown up goddamit
I couldn't leave until I'd rung every last drop out of the experience.
Too many awful experiences.
I can't imagine what else you had to do on a day like that, maybe I'm a worse grown up!!
I can only talk from my view. I was soaking it all in. I was too young for 75, was a bit pissed in Hamburg and made a point that I was going to take and remember the whole day.
The first I saw of the slide was on the net. I was gutted as I had left. I was watching TC sitting in the centre circle and the players seemed to be drifting away. It was only at this point we left. I thought it was all done.
I'm sure I was not alone in that. Behind the goal seemed to be more packed and livelier. I was somewhat up in the gods

I spoke to a dad carrying his son on the way into Wembley, asked was his son having a good day and he said everything was fine until he got off the tube at Wembley Park got abuse shouted at him and some of it directed at his son he was 7, I really don't understand this level of support they think they are giving to their team is shouting at a 7 year old and his dad going to help villa in some way, and about 20 yards from watkins folly after the game there was a villa fan out of his head drunk swinging at Fulham fans if it wasn't for his mates keeping people away from him and explaining how drunk he was who knows what could have happened.

Walking to our coaches as a 77 year old I saw a 10 year old Villa fan with his Dad and he was obviously very disappointed. I ruffled his hair and told him that he would not have to wait as long as I have had to see his team play at Wembley again. His dad took it in good spirit and said that Villa would have to rebuild getting rid of their old players.
I saw no trouble and there must have been more than a few drunk Fulham fans after that match.
I hope they behaved themselves.
Finally, I Spoke to an elderly Fulham fan (probably older than me!) sitting on a wall some distance from the stadium and looking unwell. He was struggling after a day in the heat to get to his coach and I do hope that he made it.
There were a few idiots outsde the Ibis hotel and some in the queue for the trains at Wembley Stadium station goading and looking for an excuse to pick a fight. Someone did throw a beer into our queue which was largely Fulham families getting the train towards High Wycome but a larger mainly younger bunch of freindly Villa fans threw a beer at their own supporters. I don't think the idiots would have been quite so mouthy had it not been full of families and people obviously not in a position to retaliate . I spoke to Villa fans before and after who were pleasant and met Simon Morgans Sister and Dad on our train .I suspect there were a few Fulham idiots around but I honestly didn't see any .
I hung on for about 45 minutes until most of the celebrations had been done but had to call it a day then. If I hadn't had my 7 year old daughter with me + a 2 hour drive I would have stayed longer.
Disappointing to hear of some Villa fans reactions (particularly when kids were around); the ones I spoke to after were very gracious and accepting the better side won.
Mrs Mince and I are still in there, can you get hold of someone who has the key.😂😂😂
My son and I went to The Torch before the match and as we were going in some Fulham fan was in handcuffs being dragged out to a Police van. Why go all the way there just to get yourself nicked before kick off?? Crazy!! The pub atmosphere was superb, especially when Villa coaches went passed 😃 Excellent day. We stayed at Wembley until after the 'slide'. Great memories 😁😁⚽⚽ :yay:
I had to get back to the Midlands, due to travel chaos and not being made of money to afford a hotel for the night I had to ensure I was back in time for my coach back - which was full of Villa fans so I had to keep myself on mute :005:
I left once they did the main trophy lift from the royal box. After that, everything else is just filler
Hey, we played very well, we won, we are promoted. Why the sad face? It's not a time to quibble. Enjoy yourself.
I stayed and loved every minute but completely understand that people had to get home. The good thing about staying was that there weren't many Villa about and we saw no trouble but reading the Villa forums, even they were annoyed with some of their own support who had far too many and acted up, even with their own.
Personally I didn't see many Fulham that bad - maybe we wanted to saviour the day more.

I think I am a bad grown up too, because I felt the same as you and I stayed until after the slide, after which most players and supporters called it a day (approx. 7-40pm). Even so, if I had not been with my sons, I might have stayed even longer. I was that reluctant to leave the scene of one of the greatest days I have had in supporting Fulham for nearly 50 years.
To be fair, it looked like the celebrations were winding down before they were revived by Mitro's on Fire and the slide, so I can understand why some left, even if they didn't have particular coaches or trains to catch, families to look after etc.

45 years a supporter and like you deemed too young to go with Dad and Uncle in 75. I savoured every moment of Saturday. The day was one of those "life time memories" for me that I did not want to end. I took a call from a friend at 1946, he laughed when I told him I was still in Wembley stadium. Still grinning like a Cheshire Cat now
What a daft thread. As an ST of many years, I never, ever leave before the final whistle. At Wembley we stayed until well after the podium pictures but we missed the slide. So what, my brother in law had a train to catch and we wNted to enjoy the walk out together. No crime surely?
Who gives a flying fcuk whether you stay 5 minutes or 5 hrs.... if that's your only concern in life then good luck to you.
I will just say that Villa fans were leaving at around 88 minutes, now that WAS strange!
Had to go to work, otherwise I would've stayed until I'd merged into the concrete, becoming one with the stadium. I left just before the slide.
Others leaving early probably had similar commitments, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.
Now, leaving home games early every week? Hate, hate, hate.
It was a great amazing day that me or my family will ever forget. We stayed on celebrating for 45 min after the whistle. Sorry to have missed the slides.
Team needed the fans during the game, not after. We all were a great 12th man Wall of White!
Better to direct ire at anyone spending more time queuing for hotdogs and candyfloss than those who left after the trophy had been lifted.
With a couple of 8 year olds in tow, we'd had enough after 3 hours sat in the roasting sun and opted to dash for the car parked 3 monutes away and avoid the traffic.
My lad still singing "We're going up!" this morning though - the memory will live long!
Probably the same people who wanted song sheets. You could barely tear me away. We could, if things go well, be back, but as it stands it was a once in a lifetime. Who needs to get the train home when there's memories to be made.

I thought it was all over when I left, I saw the presentation and the assembly on the podium and general disorganised and individual celebrations, but it seems there was more to come, what is all of this about a slide.
The queue to Wembley Park station was slow moving and all Fulham fans, the Villa fans were long gone so a lot of us must have missed the slide.
Jonno, could not agree more. The lower tier was understandable because everyone was standing in the aisle to get closer.
The upper tier was disgraceful and sums up the level of day-trippers there.
The players went unbeaten for 23 games, turned around a playoff deficit, and then delivered on the biggest stage battling like lions for 20 mins down to 10 men - and people think its right to go get a train.
The players deserved a full stand until the moment they went back to the changing room. I have thought this a few times this season, this side deserved better support.
Well I had to get to Stratford and then drive back to Norwich (back home nearly 2am which I'm finding harder and harder to do with my failing health) but I stayed till well after "the slide" as I wanted to savour every moment. Also I had hoped worst of the crowds (and Villa) would be gone as I'd already run the wife in her wheelchair into a few ankles on the way in. It wasn't much fun getting to Wembley central due to mouthy Villa "fans" being mouthy and going off on one about how miserable we all looked (That's 'cos we have class and don't need to rub it in to disappointed Villa fans on the way home) but finding it still a bit busy we stopped at the KFC where some big lout tried to goad me into a fight. I wasn't going to rise to it with wifey waiting for her chicken but he (and his mates) were pathetic. Took the edge of a great day a little bit. 99% of Villa were no bother but as they is such a BIG club, that other 1% add up to quite a few right tw@ts. They reminded me of the man mountain who took on my frail 73 y.o. mother in law outside Villa park a few seasons back and when confronted by me replied "What do you expect wearing your colours at Villa" So no real change there.

Sorry but I find this quite offensive, it's great you stayed for this fantastic slide, but unfortunately some of us do have other commitments, my son and I stayed for ages watching the players celebrating, but we needed to get home to my wife who is unwell, I am so sorry that this causes you to be upset, but I am afraid you will just have to deal with it.

Don't agree....most fans stayed for ages. Villa fans were leaving before the final whistle...and they were just one goal behind! Also, all the Villa fans I met on the tube (going to, and from, the game) were fine, swapped banter and jokes.
Staying longer should have made the trip home easier. Forget that queue back into Wembley Park! Was a nice easy stroll along by the time we left - had the best of both worlds. Great day.

Didn't upset me at all, I'm just very curious why there were so many who left and chose not to savor it. Sorry to hear your wife is unwell.
People might have valid excuses they needed to go, like yourself, but its the same as Derby (a), there can't surely be that many people with a reason. And strangely they were all on the top tier...
Was not about the slide, it was about showing appreciation. I imagine most who left were day-trippers or wanted to go watch the other final on that evening.
Can someone who is having a go at people for leaving earlier than them tell me what was the correct time I should have left the stadium? I have e the time on the last photo and WhatsApp message I sent, so just want to make sure I'm within the allowed limit.
Also considering their were 38k of us, we could not all have left at same time, would have caused a bit of a crush.
Also top tier had further to go.

An extra flight of stairs is not a reason to leave earlier!
Anyway, all I'm saying is - considering the fact we have had some awful seasons of late, the club has not been to Wembley since 75, let alone win there, you would expect an overwhelming majority of people to stay until the players had at least left the pitch.
Celebrate how you want. Just think it was bad form so many left.

Where do you live Take Me Home MAF? I'm aware of people who had flights to catch, trains to the North East, car journeys to Devon. My own day was very easy in comparison, just a bit longer than the usual 150 mile round trip to the Cottage. (I've not missed a home game all season.) You? And I was in the top tier and I stayed until the slide had taken place. That does not make me any more a less a true supporter.

I live in Surrey, Southcoastffc. At what point did I say it made people less of a true supporter.
I simply said - you would expect more people to have stayed to the last drop of the match considering the last few seasons, and the significance of the day to show gratitude for the players effort.
Of course people have reasons why they need to head off, you have outlined some, and other have also been mentioned earlier in the thread. I'm also not judging peoples reasons for leaving.
But I would not expect that level of people to leave which and I thought it was bad form while the players were still celebrating on the pitch.
I think the truth of the matter is that was there was lots of people there for the day, who don't support Fulham at all, and are not as invested as someone like you who has also not missed a home game this season.

That is correct - lots of people were there who do not support Fulham at all. This was bound to happen when the club needed to make the efforts to sell the allocation and give 5 tickets per sth. You can't argue with that.
I had two people next to me who were with their mate and did not support Fulham.
What I said there is correct.
Take Me Home MAF - you say you are not judging people's reasons for leaving then you say you think it's bad form [that they left]. Therefore, you are judging those people and in my opinion that is wrong of you.

so a true supporter who left say as the cup was lifted is no less a fan. So I don't get what or even who you are moaning at leaving early for.
Out of interest what time did you leave the ground TMHMAF?

I left "early" (about 10-15 min after the trophy was lifted in the air) because I wanted to and because I thought it was over.

Agree very little to be negative about following Saturday.
I would've stayed for the 'slide' if I had known it was going to take place. Stayed for a good twenty minutes after the team had lifted the trophy. Thought it was winding down and the players were sort of drifting off for their dressing room celebration. The celebrations continued on Fulham High Street into the night, until the electrical storm and downpour. God must be a Villa supporter!
MJG - I left the ground at 19:40. I'm also not moaning, I'm commenting on the initial post. You tried to misconstrue what I have been posting which I stick by - a surprising large % of people left early prior to the players finishing their celebrations on the pitch.
Holders - could not agree more. But I also don't see why we can't comment of what was initially posted and aspects of the day - that a lot of people left while the players were still on the pitch.
Fulhamfan666 - Of course fans can do what they want. Just think there was a high % who left while the players were still on the pitch celebrating, as per the persons opinion who initially made this thread.
As I said I left because of outside responsibilities, one of the people with me left because they were fasting and had to get home to prepare for the evening meal, and the other one with me left as I was taking him home to see his mum for her birthday the following day. As it was it was an hour and 30 mins after the final whistle when I got into the car in Ickenham.
A day to savour for me in any event and to be blunt with the result I really don't care about what I saw or missed. I sat and watched the full 4 hr 4 minute sky recording after I got home so don't think I missed
much

It was an untainted day - but why can't people discuss aspects of it. The Fredericks incident was a massive point in the game.
As far as I can see there is nothing to be negative about. From the moment I woke up on Saturday right through the morning afternoon pre match, and evening post match. Apart from the glorious victory and the heroic performances by the players, as well as the magnificent support visually and the sound, before and after the match. From the sea of white heading up Wembley way, the open top double decker buses with hordes of our supporters on board making their way to the Torch pub.
The Great Wall of white in the Stadium, with black and white flags, all that was impressive.
The celebrations on and off the pitch was something we all have dreamt about let alone the way we won it.
Plus the majority of fans did stay to the bitter end, but as some have already explained, there were trains to catch, work commitments and with their hands full with young children.
The only real spaces I noticed was a section in the second tier below where i was sitting in the front row of the top tier, the second tier I believe held some Villa supporters who were in plain clothes in disguise and neutrals.
When you think of the thousands of Fulham Supporters who were there to celebrate as long as they could with the players, I thought it was a magnificent festival and spectacle for all long suffering Fulham Supporters, who have been to the abyss and back.
Let's also recognise the cover by the media who flashed that huge wall of white, that enormous sea of white across the land and overseas, and let's remember all those beaming Fulham faces wherever you went, whether it's before or after the match.
What a great advert for Fulham FC on top of the footballing display by our team.

So for me it was faultless right up until my head rested on my pillow.
Marks for me 100 out of 100.
Since I started this, and wish I hadn't, can I just say I agree with every word you say.
I had a brilliant day I'll never forget.
I'm on TMHMAF on this - you can ask a question about what a large group of people did without it being a negative assumption on one or two people. Many on here get VERY defensive. TMHMAF isn't questioning YOUR support or situation re leaving, but something he noticed amongst a large group of fans that he found odd. It's a messageboard, a place for discussion.

I think the truth of the matter is that was there was lots of people there for the day, who don't support Fulham at all
I don't agree with the pedantic criticism of some people leaving after 30-45 mins of celebrations instead of staying the full 50 minutes to see the slide as well...
HOWEVER... The above statement is correct IMO
Of 38,000 there on the day, I'd wager half of them only get to 1 or 2 games per season and a good 5,000+ weren't even Fulham supporters, just neutrals and tourists.
I am astounded we sounded so loud on the day and can only assume that was attributable to the Wembley acoustics, because the level of shouting and singing in the stands was around the level you'd get in the Riverside Stand for a 2-0 win over Burton
can't agree with that last paragraph. Not sure where you were sat but in lower tier area around 121 it was almost non stop.
Was in the second tier and was yelling at people in the last ten to stand up and sing. Got some response eventually, but it wasn't exactly brilliant considering the numbers there. The acoustics generally did seem pretty good, but you can always be louder in support of the team, can't you?! Was thankful for the noise from the lower tier helping the team over the line. It is easy to get lost in the game and stop singing, especially as nerves set in.

Same for block 515 where I sat.
Long time reader of these forums
It was the best day of my life, but I have to agree with the OP and the others. I have to ask, what if the match had gone to extra time and penalties, would the same people have been making their way to their trains and other commitments?
I thought the atmosphere was quite disappointing to be honest. I was in the upper tier 506 and we just couldn't get any chants to reverberate around our whole end. Even a "we are going up" was difficult.
Sorry if this upsets people but there just seemed to be lack of genuine passion and elation from some. Hope the loyalty points are used next season at certain away games to prevent this.
I had a nightmare journey trying to get to London with trains playing up from where I live and ended up getting a lift with 2 random villa fans (and their wife) down to oxford to get a train over to London. They were extremely helpful and I massively owe them one.
That said, the first part of my journey before that did have some less friendly Villa fans who were prett drunk at 9am so wouldn't be surprised of their behaviour
In 511 there was a clear tourist family in front of me who looked annoyed any time anyone around them started singing.
When Norwood came on I heard someone ask his mate "is he any good then"

We all have to start somewhere - I guess Wembley is as good as anywhere!
This is one of the snarkiest threads I've seen in a long time.
By all means take pride in being a hardcore fan, but it is churlish to bemoan the "tourists" and "day tripppers" when without them there would have been a lot of empty seats in our section, or worse still a load of Villa fans.
The old boy next to me wasn't up on his feet and singing, but he was quick to strike up a chat and to celebrate with me at the final whistle.
At the end of the day we are a small, family club with a very broad fan base - this is one of the things that makes us stand out, and it should be celebrated.
Let's get this straight once and for all - nobody supports Fulham for the glory...
COYW!

We have an average gate of 20,000 so I don't know how you figure only half of the 38,000 at Wembley only go to one or two games a season. We sold out tickets before they went on general sale so I don't see how many tourists got their hands on them, unless Fulham fans were buying extra tickets in order to try to flog them at the Heathrow arrivals at short notice. I was in block 117 and everyone stood and cheered and sang for the whole game. Don't really know what the problem is.
Personally, I blame it upon the inexperience of the players.
Having never won anything in their careers, they clearly didn't realise that you're meant to do a 'slide' within 15 minutes of the final whistle.

Because once you take out away fans, neutrals, tourists et al I'd wager only half of the 20,000 we get each week go to more than one or two games a season
I still reckon your estimate is too low. Remember, there were not that many tickets left once the season ticket holders, members and fans with a booking history had bought theirs. I am sure there were a lot of people who usually go on their own but saw Wembley as a chance for a family day out or brought their wives and or girlfriends but I just didn't see all these tourists and neutrals everyone is talking about. Even for league matches, the neutral section on the Putney End is usually the only part of the ground which isn't sold out in my experience.
I am impressed by the number of young Fulham fans. Maybe its just my impression but there seem to be far more under 25s than there were when we were last in the Premier league. It bodes well for the future.
yawn .
How can you say "I am astounded by how loud we were" and in the next sentence say "because the level of shouting and singing in the stands was around the level you'd get in the Riverside Stand for a 2-0 win over Burton"??
I was in 112 and the sound was phenomenal throughout the game, only heard the Villa fans when Odoi was sent off!!
Can't believe this thread's still going !!
Final whistle... stay = hooray............... go - it's your choice and you probably have good reason that you shouldn't have to justify!!!!!!
FFS!! why the autopsy? I feel for Jonno, cos he's struck a dormant nerve. Ok, so maybe 0.0001% of people in our area weren't fathered by Johnny Haynes.... get over it !!
Well I'm glad we won, imagine the negative comments then!
Didn't see the slide but stayed for quite a while before I went back to the hospitality lounge where it was packed with celebrating Fulham fans. Would have been a shame not to get full value for the £369 it cost me (every penny of it well spent!)

Most of them, my brother included, saw Fulham as a constant Premier League team and stuck with it from there. Growing the male 18-30 hardcore fanbase is very important and is hugely helped by being in the Premier League.
Obviously 95% of 3k odd in a small, comparably, stadium was awesome.
The main problem from where I was was coordination, different chants from different areas etc.
Villa got one unified chant going but even that didn't exactly resonate in our end.
This is why away games always seem louder because everyone is closer and can all join in together!!
However, acoustics or not I thought the passion from us was more evident than from the other end and made for a truly memorable day.

I'm arriving late to this discussion, but the "slide" occurred after it appeared that the celebrations had ended, so it's understandable that some fans had left by then.
I was more surprised by a group of people leaving from the block I was in (103) with about 5 minutes to go - I know that getting away from Wembley can be difficult, but the game could have gone into extra time, so they would have missed that.
Also surprised by the number of empty seats - not many, but a fair few for a "sell out" where tickets would have been brought within a week of the game, both in the Fulham sections and on the upper tiers I could see for Villa.

Spot on we all have different reasons to go / stay, we stayed for about 1 hr after final whistle but by better half was feeling a touch of sun stroke so we left once we had seen all we wanted too.
