I dont think we signed the RB from CZ to not dress and sit in the cottage.

Hence, I think we'll line up like this:

          Schwartz
Man from CZ H&H Riiise
Duff Sidwell Murph Dempsey
                 Ruiz
        Zamora

AJ,Patsami, Baird, Senderos, Sa, Etuhu, Hungarian GK

It begs a couple of questions: why did Fulham bid £4m for Alan Hutton yesterday when we already have a handful of right backs including one signed earlier in the day?  The Hungarian keeper can't seem to make the bench, is he bad?

I wouldn't be surprised to see Ruiz play on the right, Duff move to the left and Dempsey behind zamora in a Jol'esque 4-2-3-1 i.e. :

         Schwartz
Grygera H&H Riise
      Sidwell Murph
Ruiz   Dempsey Duff
         Zamora

Bench: AJ,Dembele, Baird, Senderos, Sa, Etuhu, Etheridge

My football tactics become quite limited unless your talking 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 I need some help with what the players responsiblities are in this formation.

My assumptions

CB play the same
LB/RB overlap on the wings in attack
Duff and Ruiz would pinch infield more to allow space for the LB/RB
Clint would be a creative AM
Would Murphy and Sidwell play more defensive and occasionally coming forward.

I'm probably wrong, but please set me straight on how this formation works.  I'm sure your all very suprised that these questions is being asked by a yank.

You are right about the CB
Also correct regd LB/RB's but they are very aggressive and bomb forward in order to stretch the opposition and provide quick counters.
The two defensive CM's are primarily to help out defense. One is typically a tackler (which is why Jol prefers Etuhu over Sidwell, and the other is more of a passer). Bottom line is their role is to win the ball back.
Correct on the flanks as well but sometimes they will have to drop back to provide cover if the RB/LB have bombed forward and the defense is unbalanced to prevent any quick counters from the opposition. But the whole idea behind the formation is to quickly catch the other team in unbalance on the counter which so far has been a problem for Fulham as we lack speed. Think of Clint as a Gerrard type (thank you Kenny for not buying him as cover). Murphy and Sidwell would occationally come forward but then one of the 3 midfielders are supposed to drop back.

No need to be so humble. You already seem to understand how it works  :clap_hands:

Thanks Finn, the explanation makes perfect sense to me.  Now I'm itching to see how it works when we get back to business after the international break if that is the formation we end up with.

Next up on Football Tactics for yanks...the Catenaccio Defensive System.
