Title: Current Situation With Zamora
Post by: Berserker on September 01, 2011, 06:54:00 PM
Sorry if there has been another thread about this lately but I couldn't find one. I just wondered if anybody knew what the current situation is with Zamora's injuries, it all seems to have gone quiet on that front, presume because of transfer week fever   :023:

Bryan Ruiz and JA Riise are fantastic additions to the squad for sure - and the other players will be in the future - but it really is a pity we couldn't get Gignac on loan (or bought someone like Jerome). Granted, we still don't know how Ruiz might change our playing style, but it seems to me that we are just as dependent on Zamora as we were before the window shut!

If Zamora were to be injured again, I would predict that we would still be in a lot of trouble!

According to physioroom.com:

J Arne Riise Groin Strain no return date
    B Zamora Ankle/Foot Injury 11th Sep 11
B Riise Hamstring Injury no return date
S Davies Knee Injury Nov 11
D Kamara Back Injury no return date

Don't know why they keep listing Dio for us.

The info looks a bit suspect...thought Digger was out through to Feb 2012?

Didn't the club confirm a two month absence?

Been reported that Davies had a 'setback' and that he will be out for a longer period of time. Nothing from the club though.

Dio's back problem is he has no spine. There are few players who shy away from difficult games like he did.

Except in Manchester. Must be something in the water.

We had trouble last season because when Zamora got injured we had the following players to replace him:

Andy Johnson - Not a target man, seems to have lost his way
Diomansy Kamara - Decent on his day, but again, not a target man and sooo inconsistent
Eddie Johnson - ..............

We now have a direct replacement in Sa. He may be young and not used to the prem, but from what I have been told, his heading and touch are excellent. He may have struggled in portugal because they play with less of a target man mentality. With Ruiz in the team, Sa would only need to fulfill a role that would be cover for Zamora and would not be relied on to get all the goals. I think this Sa character might suprise a few people.

We also know Ruiz can play at the top of a 4-3-3, so that might work too.

It would have been great to have Gignac, but I think having a young, recently rated target man from Portugal is a decent back-up.
