As far as I know, my fellow countryman, Matt will have his base in Amsterdam, maybe send him a PM?
I stayed at the Best Western on a lads weekend a year or so back and whilst the hotel was nothing to write home about it was all that was needed and was something like EUR 50 for the night.
When I go there on business (we have operations in Amsterdam and Rotterdam) I stay at the Crown Plaza, which is probably triple the price. Still, it is a stone's throw from the red light district :dft011:
We're staying in some University style lodgings just outside of Enschede. Everything else in town is ridiculously expensive!
I would've have minded doing a night in Bruges or something though.
If you're looking at staying somewhere central i can recommend the Torenzicht Hotel, right in the heart of the red light district. It's clean and comfortable, cheap enough, and has a really good bar downstairs.
Also if you haven't booked flights yet and you've got time I would recommend getting the train from Lond to Amsterdam. We booked London > Brussels with Eurostar, and Brussels > Amsterdam with Thalys. You can book the whole thing through Eurostar but it's a rip off. Train left London at midday and we got to Amsterdam at 5:30pm their time, so 4.5 hours travel with interchange. A very relaxing way to go.
I was there three weeks ago and had a great time.
I'm going Thursday to Amsterdam, train up and staying in Enschede, Granou in Germany is worth looking at for hotels only five miles away and much cheaper. Then staying at Bridge Hotel Amsterdam ( Looks about the same as the one in Hamburg) Friday. A triple set us back 150 Euro for the night, but i think they done singles.

Where you flying from T? (just to be a bit Clickey). I'm out of Luton at 10.30 thursday morning. Anyone else on this fancy a beer at the Airport about 8.30?

The Thalys to Amsterdam is also a rip off. It takes AS LONG as a regular train but twice the price. You have a train leaving for Amsterdam every two hours or so, from any station in Brussels.
Anyone that does the Eurostar to Brussels gets free connections to anywhere in Dutchland.
There's an IBIS very near the station as is BOTEL, I know not the best of hotels but they are very close to the station. (Really good chinky next to Botel)
20 euros each way isn't bad at all on the train. I think it's at least a two hour journey isn't it? One thing I would say is that if you are flying to AMS then get the train into Amsterdam Centrum, (station in the airport)it is faster, easier and a hell of a lot cheaper than a cab. Last time I was there it was less than 4 euros. It really is easy and convenient 15 mins journey time and their trains run to the minute.

since when? You get free connections in Belgium, but when I enquired about going to Amsterdam they added about £60 to the bill, when the Thalys train charged €29.
This was 5 months ago.
Booked Eurostar London-Any Dutch Station last week. £ 89 return but I think its gone up a fiver now. Leave St. Pancras 7.34 and arrive in Enschede by 4pm.
wow, that's good to know for my next holiday
Yup, doing the Amsterdam to Enschede Dniprlo train them back to Amsterdam for all the fun of the fayre.
I'm flying Heathrow to Amsterdam... leave wednesday Morning fly home saturday evening may even extend it until sunday to get the saturday night out... flights Ba £99 return this is the hotel i'm looking at Eden Hotel Amsterdam Amstel 144 Amsterdam do you know if its a good location .. then its the train to the game and return that evening ... sounds pretty straight forward..
I stayed at The Torenzicht in Amsterdam in 1990 and can vouch for it's locality and fantastic bar, when we were there on a firms jolly, the local Hells Angels were having some sort of gathering with their scandanavian counterparts, after a few beers they were great company.
Yes Schiphol - Amsterdam by train is fast and cheap, but don't take de Fyra train it's more expensive. And don't take Comfort Class which is far more expensive. Search for the Second Class on the display.

I'm coming back by that way, Eurostar plus travel form any Dutch station - cost £45.50 back to St P. Flying out via Amsterdam. Flights to Dusseldorf are a good alternative to Amsterdam

Thought as much! We're doing the Eurostar to Brussels on the Wednesday, transfer to Eschende that day and coming back on the Friday I think. This is going to be a trip akin to Basel away (even though I wasn't at that one I've heard the stories and seen the videos).

DON'T YOU
DARE DRINK DUTCH BEER IN BELGIUM. You are listed as a dangerous suspect and you may be arrested when in the possession of a can of Heineken.
Hehehe! I'm going to get an Amstel beer trolley and walk across the border with 48 cans of Amstel, 48 cans of Heineken and a T-Shirt saying 'In Your Face Squirrel Head'.

Is the Best Western on Dam Square?
Slightly late for this just am ever so bored at work!!
Im doing thursday-saturday, touristy stuff in amsterdam on the friday!
managed to get 2 nights in Park Plaza Victoria for £70, so £25 for me and my mate...so decent!! thank you staff rate
can get family and friends rate 80 euros in Park Plaza Vondelpark or Amsterdam Airport, bed and breakfast if anyone wants a decent nights sleep and a decent hotel!!
What touristy stuff are you doing? We're doing the Ajax tour and hopefully tour the brewery too.
Anywhere worth going for five lads after the game? Would be great if there was a Fulham group/Irish pub (i know, i know) in Amsterdam for after the game.
Think A LOT of Fulham are on the last train back at 10.30pm from Enschede - bring booze.

Never been to Dam so do not have a clue where to go, but I think there will be so many of us going back to Dam that night that im sure we will all end up meeting up and doing a massive fulham takeover

I take it you can buy a retour ticket in A'dam. As it is a regular train, you don't need to book in advance. Just arrive some time before the train from A'dam leaves and buy a two-way ticket at the boot. That will also be the cheapest option.

What site to book? The one I use (raileurope.co.uk) says there are no trains that day, or the day before/after.
I'm staying until sunday night now Ajax are at home Saturday night ...could be a good experience.

Wish I knew that when booking flights, could've done the same.
Just changed my Hotel on thursday, gone across into Germany (Gronau) 18km from Enschede 2 doubles 80 Euro's each. Much prefer the beer in Germany  and perhaps a bratwurst :004: . Wished i'd have thought about Ajax

Getting into Gemany Thursday afternoon, couple of pints, head to Enschede, loads more beer with the masses, Back to Germany for more beer and jeigermiester. Friday of to Dam and back home saturday afternoon. Any smaller sides in Amsterdam playing friday night? but i reckon i'd have had my first joint in years and passed out anyhow.
still sounds like fun
