Title: GO FORTH AND MULTIPLY MARTIN JOL YOU PLEB!!
Post by: Admin on October 20, 2011, 08:43:00 PM
I honestly can stand this man any more. I'm sick to the back teeth of hearing the guy go on about how wonderful England and the Premier League is and how he likes living at his Berkshire house of where ever the hell it is. I honestly don't care.. Start getting us results and start getting them quick!!

Robbed or not tonight, an absolute shower and clueless performance again against what is pratically a bunch of amateurs who were somewhat more upbeat about winning this poxy game than us.

Lazy and lame people knocking the ball about like they don't care again, Etuhu with as much energy as my Nan at 92 and if Jol thinks Geko is the new Murphy then he seriously needs a brain transplant.

I'm glad that I'm giving the Everton game a miss and hopefully after we suffer our 3rd defeat on the trott, people will start to open their eyes a bit about the great Martin Jol.

I guess this is the point where people spout off about how long they have been going to Fulham and how they are reals fans etc etc. Maybe some toys being thrown from a pram...

Nah, might just ignore it like a sensible grown up adult

'Acitively' want Fulham to lose?? Get a grip man.. Not once have I said that and 'actively' both times I've wanted Fulham to win at Stoke and in Poland tonight. What 'actively' isn't happening is complete idiot of a manager who thinks more of England, the Premier League, his house in Berkshire and possibly his love relationship with Spurs from 4 years ago rather than getting things right at Fulham. The guy will be out on his ass in January. That, you can 'activley' put your house on.

Nah i believe we will be ok because we have a good squad of players, a good manager, a good backroom staff, and a good fan base (well, 90% of it anyway)

here to help, he has less distance to drive to the training ground so more time at the ground to work with the players which im sure pleases some people.

Look I never wanted Hughes so I can understand people who don't or did not want Jol. But i kept being told give him time, he has an old team he needs to change etc etc.
In the end I felt he should have gone after the boxing day game, then the players had a meeting with Hughes and we improved big time.
In the end its a lottery what ever manager you have, is Jol making mistakes? Yes I think he is, but he has also brought some youngsters into the squad and the changes are going to take at least this season.

Give the man a chance.

If we are bottom 3 at the end of the year then I will sign Mr Finn's Jol Out petition, and also eat a large slice of humble pie.

But whilst we are still in transition, and whilst we still have some exciting signings and second squad players to integrate, and whilst we are capable of hammering QPR, then I am in the Give Jol Your Backing camp.

I have posted so many times to this effect I think I am turning in to a parrot...

Ditto - Give him a chance. I think Jol is trying to change how we play. If certain members of the team don't get it and don't make the transition then I guess they'll move/be moved on.

He's got a big job on his hands. A lot of the rumblings seem to be true and Jol has to get the team younger.  There's going to be a painful transition phase and he's going to be unpopular, but he knows that and the board know that and we're just going to have to grin and bear it.

How often do you see a manager come in and within the first 15 games of the season, win most of them? Rarely.. And how likely were we to beat Stoke at their place last weekend? Baring in mind that we have an appalling away record that neither Hughes nor Hodgson could change.

And tonight was just another one of "those" games where it didn't fall for us and things went against us (Dembele sending off) in true Fulhamish fashion. So we move on and look to Everton where we have a good record and should look to beat them.

Remember: Boxing day 2010 we were in the relegation zone following a 3-1 defeat to West Ham. Half a season isn't enough time to judge anyone - player or manager.

I don't think tonight's game has much bearing on whether or not Jol will do a decent job for us.

When I heard he had left Clint and Bobby at home, I thought he had done the right thing. On the evidence we should have been more than capable of coming back from Poland with at least a point without them and the Everton game is very much more important.

When I saw tonight's starting 11 I wasn't too disappointed, and for the first 20 minutes or so we bossed the game, albeit without looking very threatening. Insofar as there was a weak link it was Dembele, and I was hoping to see him substituted at some point, but there was no justification for the sending off and after that we were always going to struggle.

If I have a criticism of Jol re tonight it is that he did not make what seems to me to be the best changes in the second half. Sa looks pretty poor to me and I'd have had him off at half time, playing AJ up front BUT supported better, with Frei for me being quicker and more direct than Kasami. I'd have subbed Etuhu early for Sidwell, as I though the Czech chap was doing all right, though in fairness to Jol not having played much he might have been tiring. But in the great scheme of things I don't see tonight as significantly negative in the Jol good/bad appraisal, though certainly not as a positive.

The next two Premiership games now take on great importance, both for our position and for how Jol is working out. I dearly hope that we get at least four points, but in truth I don't feel optimistic.

I appreciate that too but,QPR apart, we have looked clueless in our matches. Our defense has been all over the place and rumours of unrest in the camp have no helped. This is probably knee-jerk but I would like to see at least an improvement in performances, not results.

Sorry Admin, but that is just a knee-jerk reaction. I admire your passion, but not your impatience.

A full strength team probably would have won. It did not pan out on the day, but on Sunday (when we have a fresh Dempsey, Bobby and Murphy) we will be thankful that we rested a few. Even then, alot of the team will be knackered having travelled back from Poland but some fans will still expect us to roll over Everton without too much bother.

It's still way too early to panic. As has been said time and time again, we should wait until early December before even considering getting rid of Jol.

We might just have to accept a bad season.  This might not be a reflection on the manager at all, but someone had to come in and be the bad guy and shake things up.  If/when Johnson and Zamora leave in January then Jol will really be up against it, but you might argue that this'll be when Fulham need us most.

how come the club is not challenging dembele's red??? i though we have a very strong case. the guy blatantly cheated the referee pretending he was hit in face.

Fulham boss Martin Jol: "Of course we would never complain about the red card but it was a push on the shoulder. After being kicked. He made a meal of it.

"Referees make decisions but I would say that in the first minute one of my players was kicked and it should have been a red card. There were three other fouls but we didn't complain."

Which shows how clueless he is by not standing up for his player and lodge an official complaint and appeal. Maybe there is still time to do it, I don't know, but he most definitely should even if he loses. Management 101

No wonder nobody wants to play for him. Who wants to work for a boss that doesn't have your back? Dressing room lost by Christmas (if it isn't already).

Another hopeless and uninterested performance by many players. The older players seem particulary uninterested, while players like Kasami and Briggs are constantly trying to work something out but there are no tactics and there's no plan b. Nothing works and remember: These are the easy matches. December is make or break with the matches v the big guns. We could well be rock-bottom at 01.01.2012. And our team is deffo not a team for a relegation battle.

So for those with no faith in Jol, who shall we appoint to turn this team around? Will Ray Lew then get relegated to the academy again? Will we see our up an coming youngsters given game time to develop? Will we look to transition the team from an over reliance on Zamora and change things?
Jol has changed a few things this season, players need to adapt or be left behind (or let go). I dont believe we'll even finish in the top half this season, I'm thinking 11-13, abd to be honest, I'm not bothered about that, however I think our long term prospects look good under Jol's tutelage. We are bringing younger players through, we are still trying to play the ball around and are still solid at home
AFC, I consistently agree with all your posts so please, keep it up please

Wait a minute. When Hughes had a poor time and we were in the bottom three after Christmas. Many posters said off with his head. I was one of the few who said he has done a good job and we are playing in a more attacking style. Under Jol we have played as many games as Hughes did when people wanted Hughes to go.

So why more time? Why defend a manager who seems to have lost many senior players? I think we are more defensive now than we were under Roy. When we attack we seem to have little or no idea what to do in the final third. Shouldn't this have been sorted out by now? I don't know why Jol has so many problems. Not sure who will replace him. Just know we a duller than dull to watch because there is no end product and we look bored except for one and a half games so far this season. Other than faith and reminding us what a small club Fulham are. What can be the argument? Great squad just a poor side on the pitch.

Admin, patience is why Martin Jol is a world class manager in top flight football, and why you're sitting here having heart palpitations about a 1 - 0 loss with 10 men away in Poland.

Jol is a good manager. We look more threatening. What has to be remembered, is he's changing our side. His job this year, is to finish 16th or higher while making the squad younger. Not to come in the top ten, not to win europa, not to win a cup. His job is to see us through the next few years without getting relegated, so we can set up for the future with our new breed of players. Sa, Gecov, Ruiz, Kasami, Briggs etc are the future of our club, and its not Jols job to win anything (yet) its to make sure we add to that base so that we CAN challenge in the future. This is how you reshape a football club, its transition, and its the reason why sides like Stoke are now playing so well. They allowed themselves time to stay afloat while they took two years off for transition. Sorry, but thats the truth. The next two years will be boring, 6 - 0 wins against QPR will be the things that make it worthwhile.

Maybe its fans that stick around AFTER a run of success turns sour that are the "real fans".

Wish I was in London, id be there this weekend no matter the cost, score, manager, players, position, league, anything. Instead, i'll watch it in the dead of night, bereft of sleep.

yeah, i re read it and considered taking it out, i thought itd give the plebs of this board the excuse to disparage all my real points and take four words out of it to single out instead of recognising the rest of my valid arguments. Guess i should have.

What you really mean is that you were wildly inaccurate and are now embarrassed at being shown as such.

Plebs? I doubt you know the meaning of the word, and am certain you don't know to whom, if indeed anyone, on this forum it could reasonably be applied.

Some of us are in London, hope to see better than, for the most part, we have; still hope that, but with in my case diminishing expectation that that hope will be realised.

Hopefully we will look threatening against Everton and Wigan, because if we don't our position in the Premiership after the Wigan game is likely to look rather sorry.

just complete disappointment all round really. Shambolic refereeing aside, Jol really didn't leave a good imprint on my brain last night in how he handles pressure. It's all well and good having a plan and writing every single move down before the match but his in-game reactions were sub-standard for somebody who has been in the game so long. He continued with Sa up top obviously hoping he could hold the ball up, I have no idea who for though. Etuhu and Gecov looked to not even bother trying to add some attacking impotus even when we had 11 men. AJ was running around picking it up off the defenders 30 yards from his own goal ffs. Count ourselves lucky Sa got injured otherwise I wouldn't have been surprised if he stayed on all game doing a poor job of bringing others into play (think I remember one headed flick to attempt to put AJ in), he did do some good Nunez impressions though and that's definitely what we all want right?

Then to wait until they were down to 10 to sacrifice a defender was pretty poor imo, we were already 1 down, had nothing to lose and let's face it if we got caught on the break he could easily hide behind a dodgy red card decision.

Just so depressing to see us even with 11 men trying to keep the ball instead of get forward and make things happen. Dembele wants to beat his man 15 times before he'd like to do anything else, at least try sticking him on the left where he may stick to his left foot and not bother cutting in to be greeted by 4 more men.

I really wanted to see more from Gecov, he could pass it sideways and backwards well enough but against an average team (I dont care how many times they've won the league etc, they're average by our standards) he should be looking to kick on and put himself in the managers thoughts looking to play forward and add some purpose to the play.

Think that's my rant over, but I would like to say well done to Matty Briggs who had a good game and bombed forward at every opportunity (winning that free kick when 3 men were hounding him was class). Honourable mentions to Kasami and Frei who at least looked to add some intent.

I know what pleb refers to.

So you dont think we are in the middle of a transition stage where the teams performance will suffer as a result of Jol rebuilding the squad for the future?

Feel really incensed, just picked up this thread saw Finns earlier comment that if you support MJ then you are not a real fan. Really that is hitting below the belt Finn. Just because I look at things differently to you, does not make me any less of a supporter . True, we have not had the best of starts but that is not an unique experience, it has happened far too often before but I, for better or for worse am prepared to give everyone a fair crack of the whip whereas you are not, my reasoning is that I, nor you can have very little influence over who the club employs and on that basis, we have to live with their decisions. I have never doubted your devotion to FFC, please do me the courtesy of the same respect.

Mr P, for reasons best known to himself Finn has a real problem with Jol even before he had managed a game,  and I cannot see that changing with the current performances, I totally agree with all your other sentiments.

When we beat them 4 or 5 nil at the Cottage, I wonder just how many of you will be calling for Jol's head.

We must understand that we play over a season and that in that season there will be great games, decent games and mediocre games. We have a manager of proven ability (like it or not he did well at spurs) so lets wait and see how the season pans out. We will not get relegated and the cup runs are still open to us.
The easiest thing in the world is to criticize the performance of the manager, but if you do that, then you must also look at the board of directors and the players themselves. There is no i in team, and it very much looks to me as if there may be a little discontent amongst the older players, but they will all be gone in 3 years time. It could well be that jol is still here producing good signings and producing the goods but with a younger team. The important thing is that we stay firmly behind the club and support the decisions made from the top. They have not let us down in the last ten years, however much we moan have they?

Completely agree. Jol has 3 years or more perhaps and can take a long term view to the club, all of the players are here only for the short term and will do whatever is in their best interests, ie get on with the business of listening to the manager or moan and seek a transfer

Kinda fair call I think, although the majority of the chat has been good and constructive and I have strongly disagreed and got slightly frustrated with some that dont share my same opinion, it wouldnt be a discussion board without disagreement.
Sometimes the best idea is to take a deep breath, come back with a measured response, or just ignore it and come back later

I do look at the Offal sometimes, and although there are interesting comments on it,  more often than not lately it's just people having a go at each other, and i definitly wouldn't want this forum to end up like that.

We can attract managers from both home and abroard. We are a Prem club. We are a good club. We do not have to put up with managers who are not very good. But Jol will be given time by the club as it is the Fulham way. But if at Christmas we are struggling still and out of the Europa. Jol we be asked to go I hope. Like Hughes he may be given longer. But the fact is players seem unhappy and on the pitch we can look disjointed. W have been beaten by some average sides. Look at Wolves for instance.

Belgium are unlikely to produce our next manager. A Country without a proper Government that is actually  doing better at working out its financial problems than most other places in the World. Is far to grown up for the likes of us.

I do laugh at threads like this, best quote award  so far must undoubtably must go to zzamora, did make me laugh, as for my say, yeah let's get rid of jol, bring in a new manager and unless he wins his first 10 games, get rid of him and so on and so on

I stuck up for Hughes when 90% wanted him out, i could see what he was trying to do and did turn it around, I can also see what Jols trying to do, the difference is I think it will take a little longer as Jol realises we need to lower the average age of the squad, Ruiz hasn't had a decent run yet along with a few others, jol needs to work out his best side and once he has, I think we will be fine, but he needs to tinker a bit first, so get behind the club, were not even in January yet and people are calling for the managers head

And a good thing too - where would we have been had Hughes been sacked after Boxing Day? (yes, yes, I know I wanted him gone - good thing I'm not on the Fulham FC board really).

If we're firmly entrenched in the relegation zone by Christmas, let him go. But that seems very unlikely, since it's 5 points seperating top and bottom of the bottom ten.
