Love the man. Seems about as well rounded as a sportsman can be and I like the fact he doesn't indulge materially too much. Being a "watch" man myself, I get that part.
Anyone read Beware of Pity? Agree with his comments?
We still clearly hold a place in his heart. Which bearing in mind we do with Cookie too must mean there's something right about us.
Not heard of the book before but looks as if it might be interesting - bit high-brow for me if I'm honest. Have a look

Of Roy's favourites best stick to Roth and (not mentioned) JP Donleavy, who's hilarious and a bit filthy, not at all what you'd expect from Royston. Zweig is quite dry, the Czech stuff is good but quite.... philosophical.

Well, Roth is a bit filthy as well. I read one of his books and while he has excellent skills for describing basic human instincts and some of the perverse behaviors of humans, I was never that entertained because I thought he was a bit disturbing. I would rather be uplifted or at least gain insight into human emotional behavior that doesn't make me want to take a shower.
Used to love him, but he went down a long way in my estimation when he deserted us for 'Pool. If he'd stayed and continued to help us overachieve, he'd be in the box seat right now for the England job. How he couldn't see that the move to 'Pool was suicide is beyond me. Still, I suppose he did well financially out of the whole debacle.
He's a legend. And I really cannot understand why people don't think that way only because he left us. At his age and at this level Liverpool was probably his last chance of managing a big team. That's what everyone in the game aims to achieve. No hard feelings from my side, only love and appreciation. I still think he's the greatest manager in the league. A real football man and a true Fulham legend. Luv ya, Sir Roy!
