Cottage target reveals snub reasons

Mikael Lustig claims the lure of success and regular action helped Celtic see off competition from clubs like Fulham for his signature.

Cottagers boss Martin Jol had been heavily linked with the 24-year-old Sweden international defender with a view to signing him on a pre-contract agreement from Norwegian side Rosenborg as he was set to fall out of contract next summer.

However, Celtic have beaten the Londoners and several other interested parties to Lustig's signature as he says the lure of first-team football and a chance to win silverware appealed more to him than a bigger pay packet.

"This moves feels good," Lustig said in the Daily Record.

"I'm joining a club where people believe in me and that will help me develop my game. "

I'm aware Celtic were following me for a long time and that means this was not a panic transfer.

"That means a lot and is one of the main reasons I've joined. That and the fact they are a huge club. "

The thought has been in my mind for a long time that I was leaving Norway and I had to be careful and think long about my next club.

"If it had just come down to money there were chances for me to go somewhere else and get a better contract in a better league. "

But I wanted playing time and I wanted to feel I'd be valued."

Young Fulham Striker Loaned to Hayes & Yeading

Blue Square Bet Premier club Hayes & Yeading United have taken young Aussie striker Corey Gameiro on a month`s loan from Barclays Premier League side Fulham.

Hailing from the Port Kembla suburb of New South Wales, Gameiro was one of the first Australians to try his luck in Fulham`s Academy.

After a difficult settling in period, Gameiro is a popular member of Kit Symons' squad and one with a lot of potential.

An industrious striker with bags of pace and skill he has a keen eye for goal and an ability to turn a game.

He is regarded as one of Australia's brightest prospects and has already earned an under-20 call-up.

Epsom & Ewell Sports Awards

Epsom and Ewell Borough Council recently hosted their first ever Sports Awards and Fulham FC Foundation had two young people shortlisted. The sports awards were designed to recognise the success and hard work of individual sports men and women, as well as local teams and sporting projects that are having a positive impact on their local community.

Fulham FC Foundation's Longmeadz Kickn Project, works with young people between the ages of 10 and 18, at risk of social exclusion, living on the Longmeads Estate in Epsom. The project provides them with two nights a week of football along with education workshops. In February 2012 a new girls session will be launched.

Longmeadz participant, Connor, was nominated for the Surrey County Playing Fields Association Young Volunteer of the Year Award and Paige, nominated for the Epsom Gymnastics and Trampoline Club Young Sports Personality of the Year.

The event was held at the prestigious Epsom Downs race course in the Blue Ribbon room within the Queen Elizabeth II stand. Connor and Paige were both up against talented young sports men and women from Epsom, including Great British athletes.

Unfortunately they were both unsuccessful in winning the award. However the fact that they were both nominated shows just how far both Connor and Paige have come on the programme and the hard work they have both put in. The Foundation is very proud of their efforts and commitment.

If you are interested in finding out more about how to join the Longmeadz Kickin project or other projects run by the Fulham FC Foundation please contact www.fulhamfc.com/foundation (http://www.fulhamfc.com/foundation) or 0870 442 5432.

Arsenal v Fulham – Preview : High-Flying Gunners Welcome Home A Struggling Fulham Outfit

After a determined night of Champions League football in which Arsenal showed their 'gritty' side, it is time for them to channelize all their energy onto the league. They have won five league games on the trot and another win can take them to the much coveted Top Four. Since the defeat at White Hart Lane, the Gunners have picked up a series of victories with confidence at a very high within the team.

The chemistry of the side has also improved and new recruits have seamlessly blended into the kind of game played at the club. The tremendous form of Dutch striker van Persie has given the rest of the team a boost, a target to follow, a benchmark to attain! The defensive effort put together by the entire team has helped van Persie in playing a free role and score with charitable ease. The back-four consists of three centre-backs but Koscielny has played at right full-back earlier in his career and is a very clever and adjusting football player. Playing against a struggling Fulham side, Arsenal are expected to pick up full points at home.

The Cottagers are weary this season with all the European adventures. The thin squad doesn't really help the cause, as they looked quite tired in the stalemate at the Stadium of Light last weekend. They have performed quite poorly on the road, having picked up just one win in their six road-trips. Martin Jol, who has been a London Derby rival of Arsene during his Tottenham days, is finding it hard to play with a compact squad who are 'giving away' games due to exhaustion. They started admirably at the Stadium of Light, but looked jaded during the later stages of the game. It will be an enormous task to upset the high-flying Gunners at their home, but in the game of football, anything can happen. .

Team News and Tactical Brief
Arsenal
On the injury front, Abou Diaby returned back to the squad in the Champions League game, he even got some valuable minutes in his bag. He can be a very influential player on his day, classy in execution and temperamental in approach. If Alex Song needs a breather in certain games, Diaby can be incorporated in the team, though he is far less adept with his defensive abilities compared to the Cameroonian. Thomas Rosicky picked up a minute thigh injury in training before the Dortmund game and is still out for the London Derby. No further news of a new injury has been reported after the game in midweek.

Arsene Wenger might be tempted to rest a few players who have played a lot of games in recent times, but it is too irresistable a temptation to play the same side yet again, the chemistry of the team being simply fantastic right now. Yossi Benayoun came off the bench in the last game and showed some moments of brilliance, so he might be one candidate for the starting line-up. The back-four should be ideally unchanged, with Koscielny looking very solid at right full-back sans the attacking abilities. Meanwhile, Santos has been overtly attacking yet quite astute as a defender too; he has shown some very good control with the football, much expected from a Brazilian anyway.

If one of van Persie, Theo Walcott and Gervinho has to sit out, it has to be the man from Ivory Coast. The African, quite excited with his African Footballer of the Year nomination, has been very wasteful in front of goal. Though, Andrei Arshavin can be given a chance, it is still a dilemma for the manager as the Russian doesn't possess the same defensive abilities that Gervinho has. Apart from these, the rest of the team picks itself on current form.
Possible Starting Line-Up (4-2-3-1): Szcznesy; Koscielny, Mertesacker, Vermaelen, Santos; Song, Arteta; Theo, Ramsey, Gervinho; van Persie

Fulham
Fulham haven't won a London derby in the last eight years which counts 34 games. They are team firing at home, and not showing up on their travels. Midfielder Steve Sidwell and defender Stephen Kelly are both suffering from injuries and are a doubt for this fixture. Simon Davies has been declared fit but he lacks match fitness due to a long time injury layoff. Mark Schwarzer, 39, meanwhile, has been talking up about his game and that he has no retirement plans in the near future; infact, he has even given the 2014 World Cup a possible target. The Australian had been in news earlier with Arsenal planing for a capture of the keeper a season back before Szczesny became a 'monster in front of the goal'.

Fulham captain and former Liverpool man, Danny Murphy is the fulcrum of the team; his contribution is crucial for the side. Otherwise inspirational Clint Dempsey has been a little off-color recently, unable to finish off the game at Sunderland with a glorious chance. The American is expected to lead the line with Bobby Zamora. Another former Arsenal target, Hangeland will be in the center of defense with Hughes. Damien Duff is another attacking threat for the visitors, but with age, Duff doesn't possess the pace and trickery he used to show in his Chelsea days. Another fantastic player of his time, John Arne Riise will fulfill left full-back duties.
Possible Starting Line-Up (4-4-2): Schwarzer; Baird, Hughes, Hangeland, Riise; Duff, Murphy, Sidwell, Dembele; Dempsey, Zamora

Key Facts
The Cottagers have never won at Arsenal, losing 22 of their 25 visits to the North of London.
van Persie has 5 goals in the 7 starts against Fulham.
Arsenal hosted Fulham for the first time in an FA Cup game in 1903, stays undefeated to this day, at home.
Robin van Persie has 31 goals in 29 games in this Calendar Year.

TheHardTackle's PLAYER TO WATCH OUT FOR
Alex Song (Arsenal)
It is almost impossible not to have Robin van Persie as the Key Man, but we have given the Dutchman some rest on this column. The Cameroonian, who was elected MoM in the game at Dortmund, is now a vital cog in the team. "Song is everywhere" – the commentator on that night stated. He indeed is! Alex Song, not only provides defensive solidity, he even can create some magical goals out of the blue.

TheHardTackle's PREDICTION
Arsenal 3 – 0 Fulham

It is too much of a task for Fulham to upset an incredibly 'on the up' Arsenal side. The home team can have one of those days, but it looks very unlikely that such a day can happen any time soon. With van Persie, Aaron Ramsey and Mikel Arteta are expected to keep the score-board ticking. A comfortable home-win for the Gunners!

Beating Arsenal by using Wild Things tactics

In Where The Wild Things Are, Max is transported to a far and distant land where... the wild things are... and initially looks to be in some danger.  But Max is no mug and uses his guile to win the wild things over, specifically by staring them down and showing he's not afraid. Then they respect him and, more importantly, effectively allow him to take them over. Eventually they all spend three double pages having wild fun together.

There are obvious parallels between Max and the wild things and Fulham and Arsenal.  Max was in some distress when he first set out on his journey (he had been sent to his room), just as Fulham are now (we have fewer points than we think we should have). But from this distress comes strength and ultimately belief, belief to stand toe to toe with big and frightening foes, to take them on at their own game and trust in his ability to do this.  It works and he leaves the Wild Things as conqueror, on his own terms.

There we go. How to beat Arsenal.

That and stop Robin van Persie.

SZCZESNY - GUNNERS HAVE NO FEAR

Wojciech Szczesny claims Arsenal will not fear anyone in their current form - but warned against taking Fulham's challenge lightly at Emirates Stadium.

Arsene Wenger's men are a team transformed from earlier in the season, now having won 11 from 13 games in all competitions after a brace from in-form captain Robin van Persie helped beat Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday night to secure safe passage into the last 16 of the Champions League.

"I don't think we'll struggle with complacency. For us every game is massive now," Szczesny told Arsenal Player. "We have needed to get some points to catch up with the teams at the top of the table. The Fulham game is massive for us and I am sure we'll be up for it."

Szczesny added: "It is fantastic that we don't fear playing against anyone.

"We are very confident going into each game and feel like we have what it takes to get the three points.

"We keep winning so I hope we keep that habit going and win every single game from now on."

Midfielder Alex Song feels Arsenal are finally starting to gel into an effective unit.

"Maybe some people are very hard on Arsenal, I don't know why," the Cameroon midfielder said.

"We want to show everyone is wrong about us and we did very well - but we don't want to stay in the same situation now and just say, 'everything is working and we will just keep on like this'.

"We want to push ourselves to try to look forward."

Lawro's prediction
(http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/56895000/gif/_56895991_ars_ful_0506.gif)
Arsenal v Fulham (1730 GMT)
A London derby, but at the moment if Robin van Persie is fit then Arsenal win and you can't see anyone stopping him.

He cannot do anything wrong, the ball is following him at the moment and he is getting all sorts of goals.

Fulham are not great away from home and will make it hard for Arsenal but the Gunners will win this at a canter.

Arsene Wenger was getting grief two months ago but look at how quickly football can change. All the pressure is on Chelsea now.

Prediction: 2-0

Robbie Savage column

If Bobby Zamora wants to be on the plane to Euro 2012 then games like Saturday's ESPN match are the ones he's got to shine in.

I've got huge respect for Bobby because I know how hard it is to come back from a broken leg. He's a good guy, too.

But despite his ban, you've got to take Wayne Rooney to the Euros and at the moment I would put Zamora behind Daniel Sturridge, Darren Bent and Danny Welbeck too.

So he must seize his chances to shine in the big games because, at the moment, does he change a game in the European Championship? Not for me.

I don't give Fulham much chance against a reborn Arsenal and though Martin Jol's side don't really excite, they will be OK in the Premier League this season and for a few to come.

It's a well-run club with a good manager and perhaps another waiting in the wings in Danny Murphy, who has a huge tactical brain.

I think Danny will be a very good boss for someone one day soon.

It goes without saying that, after 21 goals in his last 19 games, Fulham will have their work cut out dealing with Robin van Persie.

It's not so much that he has improved this season - he had always been this good.

The difference is that he finally has people in areas who can provide for him.

Gervinho has settled in well and the idea that Theo Walcott lacks a final ball must be over.

Spurs head race for whizkid Ibe

SPURS want to snap up Wycombe kid Jordan Ibe.

The strike ace, 15, has been watched by the club academy's head of youth recruitment Richard Allen.

Ibe has had interest from Fulham, Manchester United and Liverpool.

But Spurs are set to fend off rivals with a £500,000 bid.

Fulham chase Ivory Coast star

Fulham boss Martin Jol is in the hunt for Vitesse Arnhem striker Wilfried Bony.

The Ivory Coast international, 22, has been in red-hot form since joining from Sparta Prague last summer.

The Cottagers are interested, but Bony's goals have also alerted Udinese and Villarreal.

Juventus Market: Motta like Stuttgart and Fulham, Kuzmanovic arrives?

Marco Motta is one of the players for Juventus with a suitcase ready. Never used by Antonio Conte if not in the midweek friendly, so far found no chance even on the bench, going to occupy a permanent seat in the stands. During the winter market window, the former defender of Roma and Udinese could then move abroad for some time followed by Stuttgart, Motta has some other day admirers in England, Fulham, as reported by 'itasportpress. it ', he would find the cost of the card.

Beppe Marotta currently evaluates about 6 million euros difficult to recover the amount in question, but if the Juventus general director succeed in the enterprise, this treasure could be used to return to the assault of Martin Caceres, eclectic Uruguayan defender who is already was to Juventus during the 2009-2010 season, and has recently expressed his desire to play the black and white jersey.

Alternatively, the same amount or slightly more, the Bianconeri midfielder could make much coveted by Conte, to relieve the trio of wonders Pirlo Marchisio-Vidal: Never mind the only alternative, in fact, as reported by the German press , could accompany Zdravko Kuzmanovic, former Fiorentina midfielder and currently own at Stuttgart. The Serbian player is right in the prototype built by the Count, and if the German club was so much interested in Motta, you may wish to consider an exchange that would be happy with both clubs.

Fulham keeper has no regrets over failed Arsenal switch

MARK Schwarzer insists he has no regrets not joining Arsenal – and has set his sights on a new deal at Fulham.

The Australian keeper was heavily linked with a move to the Gunners last year, but was priced out of a switch to the Emirates.

Schwarzer went on to sign a new deal at Craven Cottage, but that is due to expire at the end of the campaign.

However, the 39-year-old is hopeful of triggering the option in the contract that would extend his stay in SW6 for another season.

Schwarzer, who will have a chance to show Arsenal what they're missing in tomorrow's clash in north London, told the Chronicle: "You can never harbour any regrets. What was done was done and you move on.

"The minute I signed a new deal at Fulham the whole situation was dealt with, otherwise I wouldn't have re-signed.

"I'm more than happy where I am and I've said from the day I arrived at Fulham that I love playing here. It's been a great time in my career.

"Who knows [if I will finish my career here] That would be great but you never say never."

POLL: Premier League interest forced Jewell's hand over Richard Wright

PAUL Jewell has backed the returning Richard Wright to push David Stockdale all the way in the race for the Blues number one spot.

The current custodian has been largely blameless despite conceding more goals than any other keeper in the Championship this season.

But Stockdale will now face competition from Ipswich boy Wright, back at the club for the third time, as well as Arran Lee-Barrett.

And Jewell believes the 34-year-old won't be content with just playing second-fiddle to Stockdale, explaining: "Richard has been training with us all summer and he has been absolutely terrific.

"He's keen as mustard, he comes back in the afternoons – even though he's not been getting paid – and is a credit to the game. I was thinking about maybe giving him something until the end of the season. Then Kenny Jackett (the Millwall manager) phoned me up and asked me about Richard – so I signed him.

"I think QPR came in as well but with Richard being on the doorstep here, and having close ties with Ipswich, he was delighted to sign."

Although the deal is only until the end of the season, Jewell believes Wright still has a few good years in him yet.

He said: "He's not that old for a goalkeeper and he has been terrific in training. You never know what happens – we have Stocky on a 24-hour recall and there is a lack of goalkeepers out there. Richard is definitely in the reckoning – I've got a decision to make now between who is on the bench between him and Arran Lee-Barrett."

With tomorrow's home match against Reading something of a must-win following four straight losses, Jewell admitted he was considering changes – both in personnel and formation.

He should be able to welcome back influential midfielder Keith Andrews who is making good progress from his broken nose suffered while on international duty.

But there was less welcome news for former Reading stalwart Ibrahima Sonko who is unlikely to win his race to be fit after tearing his hamstring.

Former Reading skipper Ivar Ingimarsson, who spent almost eight years at the Madejski Stadium, is expected to start alongside Danny Collins in the heart of the Town defence.

Daryl Murphy should come back into contention after his 45 minutes with the reserves in midweek, but one young lad who might have to bide his time a little longer is 15-year-old Byron Lawrence.

Asked about whether he would consider the schoolboy in tomorrow's squad, Jewell said: "It wouldn't faze him, but it's just picking the time and place for us to stick him in."

In a poll on this website earlier this week, 46% of people who voted wanted to see Lawrence included in tomorrow's matchday squad, a further 31% thought it was too soon but they wanted to see the teenage starlet at some stage this season.

After a difficult settling in period, Gameiro is a popular member of Kit Symons’ squad and one with a lot of potential.

An industrious striker with bags of pace and skill he has a keen eye for goal and an ability to turn a game.

He is regarded as one of Australia’s brightest prospects and has already earned an under-20 call-up.

I'd seen this guy before in another article and couldnt believe he was from around the same place as I am. Not really heard much of him back home to be honest but he has been over here for a little while now and is still quite young. Hope he does well

Exclusive - Schwarzer: 'Robin Van Persie is on a par with Messi and Ronaldo'

Mark Schwarzer believes Robin Van Persie is as good as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Arsenal striker is in the form of his life at the moment and is the Premier League's top scorer with 13 goals already this term.

The Dutchman also scored twice in midweek as the Gunners beat Borussia Dortmund to book their place in the last 16 of the Champions League, and Schwarzer knows just how much of a threat he will pose to Fulham at the Emirates on Saturday evening.

The Australian keeper told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast: "Van Persie is a fantastic player, not just because he's scoring lots of goals, but because of the quality he has.

"The run he's on at the moment is something special. He is one of the most in-form players in Europe, if not the world, and not far behind Messi and Ronaldo. I'd put him on a par [with them] and it will be tough for anyone to try to contain him."

Schwarzer insists, however, that Fulham won't be travelling to north London merely to make up the numbers.

He added: "We know Arsenal's quality, they've got it all over the pitch in every position, but we'll take the game to them.

"The one thing with playing Arsenal is you do get the opportunity to play football. They're not the sort of team to try to steamroller you, they do give you a chance.

"We can go there and have a go. It's only logical that everyone will expect Arsenal to win at home against most teams , other than perhaps the top four. But as players we believe in our own ability and know what we're capable of. We know we can go there and perhaps cause a bit of an upset."

Szczesny eyes 'massive' Fulham game

Wojciech Szczesny claims Arsenal will not fear anyone in their current form - but warned against taking Fulham's challenge lightly at Emirates Stadium.

Arsene Wenger's men are a team transformed from earlier in the season, now having won 11 from 13 games in all competitions after a brace from in-form captain Robin van Persie helped beat Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday night to secure safe passage into the last 16 of the Champions League.

Goalkeeper Szczesny, however, maintains Arsenal must remain focused if they are to keep up the challenge of a top-four place.

''I don't think we'll struggle with complacency. For us every game is massive now,'' Szczesny told Arsenal Player. "We have needed to get some points to catch up with the teams at the top of the table. The Fulham game is massive for us and I am sure we'll be up for it.

''It is fantastic that we don't fear playing against anyone. We are very confident going into each game and feel like we have what it takes to get the three points. We keep winning so I hope we keep that habit going and win every single game from now on.''

Midfielder Alex Song feels Arsenal are finally starting to gel into an effective unit. ''Maybe some people are very hard on Arsenal, I don't know why,'' he said.

''We want to show everyone is wrong about us and we did very well - but we don't want to stay in the same situation now and just say, 'everything is working and we will just keep on like this'. We want to push ourselves to try to look forward.''

Song also feels they're still missing the influence of Jack Wilshere, who is out injured until the New Year. "Jack is a very good player. We need everyone," he said. "When we have everyone in the team we are stronger and more confident. We need every player because we have a lot of games.

"We don't just think about if Jack is coming back. Everybody has their job to do in the team. I hope Jack will come back soon and Bacary [Sagna] as well and when everybody comes, we will see Arsenal playing.

"Jack is a good player, we have good players in the team and everybody is just trying to do their job. We never know who starts the game - the boss makes the choice. Today I am very happy and I am very lucky to have good players around me and when Jack comes back he will be welcome in the team. It will be really good for us."

Premier League Preview: Arsenal v Fulham
Cottagers look for first ever win at the Emirates, while Robin van Persie looks to add to 13 goals this season and find the net for the sixth game in a row in the Premier League

PROBABLE LINEUPS
ARSENAL
Szczesny
Koscielny, Mertesacker, Vermaelen, Santos
Arteta, Song, Ramsey
Walcott, Van Persie, Gervinho

FULHAM
Schwarzer
Baird, Hangeland, Senderos, Riise
Dempsey, Murphy, Etuhu, Duff
Dembele, Zamora

Arsenal are short on numbers in their defence with Bacary Sagna, Carl Jenkinson and Kieran Gibbs all missing with long term injuries. Laurent Koscielny will likely start at right-back again, while Johan Djoruou provides an alternative option for Arsene Wenger.

Abou Diaby could feature on the bench with Tomas Rosicky as the Frenchman may stick with same midfield trio that played against Borussia Dortmund and Norwich in the past two games. Robin van Persie is certain to start up-front with Gervinho and Theo Walcott either side of him, as the system has been fruitful for the Gunners over the past month.

Fulham should be mainly unchanged from the draw with Sunderland last week.  Zdenek Grygera is still missing for Martin Jol with a knee injury, so Chris Baird will remain at right-back. John Arne Riise should return to the team after missing the clash with the Black Cats to attend the birth of his son.

Aaron Hughes could drop to the bench or partner Brede Hangeland in the central of defence, but Jol could keep Philippe Senderos in the line-up after good performance last week. Steve Sidwell could also return for the Cottagers.

DID YOU KNOW
Since losing the north London derby on October 2, Arsenal have won five games in a row in the Premier League. This has taken them to seventh place in the table.

Robin van Persie (pictured right) is the leading scorer in the top-flight with 13 goals. The Dutchman has scored in five succesive matches netting 10 goals including a hat-trick against Chelsea.

The Gunners skipper has scored over half of his side's 25 league goals while Alex Song and Gervinho have contributed by assisting four times each this season, putting them in the top 10 in the league.

Arsenal and Fulham have met 48 times in the league, with Gunners winning 33 times and the Cottagers just seven. The remaining eight matches have finished as draws.

Fulham have conceded 15 goals this season, but have kept the second most number of clean sheets in the Premier League with five.

This season Martin Jol's team have picked up just one win away from home and have managed a mere three goals away from Craven Cottage.

The Cottagers have never won at Arsenal in 24 attempts, conceding 61 goals in the process whilst only scoring 19 themselves.

Fulham's last win over Arsenal came at Craven Cottage in 2008 when Brede Hangeland netted a first half header to give the hosts - at the time - a win.

This special event is open to all, and is our chance to honour the memory of supporters, players, staff and local residents who have sadly been taken from us. The event will commence at 2:45pm and will be led by our Club Chaplain, Rev. Gary Piper, who is also a long-standing Fulham fan.

Rev. Piper will host an informal remembrance service, which will be followed by a complimentary buffet lunch. There will then be an optional, short stadium tour.

This includes an opportunity to visit any seats or specific areas of the ground that are special to you. A cash bar will also be open for the duration of the event.

Following the stadium tour, the bar in McBride's Lounge will remain open until approximately 5:30pm.

Rev. Piper would like to mention the names of any specific friends or loved ones during his service. There will also be an opportunity for you to share your own memories of them with us.

If you would like any special prayers, poems or other personal tributes to be included as part of Gary's service, please do let us know in advance and we will make arrangements for this to be included. We would also be grateful if you could confirm the names of any loved ones you would like to be specially mentioned by name.

The event is open for all to attend, but in order to allow us to plan properly for the day we would ask that the names of any attendees be confirmed in advance. If you would like to attend, please email [email protected].

Last year marked our first Memorial Day and it was a very special event for staff, and we hope valuable for all those who attended.

Schwarzer: No regrets over Arsenal move
by DAN on NOVEMBER 25, 2011

Mark Schwarzer insists he has no regrets over how his transfer to Arsenal fell through and is keen to earn a new contract with Fulham.

The Australian goalkeeper looked set to move to the Emirates at the start of last season, but Arsenal failed to meet Fulham's valuation for their keeper. The 39 year-old has continued as the club's number one under Martin Jol and hopes to trigger an option in his current contract that would earn him a one-year extension by continuing to make the sort of fine saves that kept out Sunderland last weekend.

Fulham go to Arsenal in the Premier League on Saturday and Schwarzer insists his focus is fully with his current club:

You can never harbour any regrets. What was done was done and you move on.

The minute I signed a new deal at Fulham the whole situation was dealt with, otherwise I wouldn't have re-signed. I'm more than happy where I am and I've said from the day I arrived at Fulham that I love playing here. It's been a great time in my career.

Who knows [if I will finish my career here]? That would be great but you never say never.

Fulham, West Brom and QPR all eyeing Portugal keeper

Eduardo Carvalho has issued a 'come and get me' plea to the Premier League – with Fulham, West Brom and QPR all keen on the Portugal keeper.

The 29-year-old is currently on loan at Benfica from Serie A side Genoa but, having lost his place in the national side, is now looking to kickstart his career in England.

Carvalho, who starred for Portugal in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, almost joined Arsenal last season when it looked like Manuel Almunia was on his way out of the Emirates but the Gunners' interest ended after the emergence of Wojciech Szczesny.

Now he is wanted by QPR boss Neil Warnock, who is keen to bring in competition for first choice stopper Paddy Kenny.

But QPR are not the only top-flight club keen, with Fulham also in the hunt for another keeper to compete for the number one jersey with Mark Schwarzer, having sent David Stockdale to Ipswich for the season.

West Brom are also weighing up a move for Carvalho as loan keeper Ben Foster's future hinges on whether Birmingham win promotion back to the Premier League.

Arsenal vs Fulham: Match Preview & Prediction

Arsenal host Fulham in Saturday's evening kick off with the home side favourites to extend their winning streak in the Premier League to six when they face Fulham.

Arsene Wenger's side return to domestic action following their 2-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Wednesday night that saw them became the first English side to progress from the group stages of this season's Champions League.

Fulham have produced just 2 wins in their opening 12 Premier League games under Martin Jol. Last weekend they had Mark Schwarzer to thank for a good save at the end of the game as the visitors came away with a 0-0 draw at Sunderland.

The Cottagers have looked poor domestically under the former Tottenham manager, picking up just 11 points heading into a busy and tough schedule between now and new year.

Robin van Persie is the player of 2011 as he heads into this game with 13 league goals to his name this season and off the back of a midweek brace against German Bundesliga champions, Borussia Dortmund. The Dutchman will be Arsenal's biggest threat, as per usual heading into this match.

The pace either side of him is a threat, with all of Theo Walcott's Premier League assists in 2011 being notably tucked away by van Persie himself. Gervinho, wasteful last weekend in Arsenal's 2-1 win over Norwich is another pacey forward who has caused defences problems this season, but is often let down by his decisions to hold onto the ball for too long.

This pace going forward for Arsenal is a favourable match up when they face a Fulham defence consisting of Aaron Hughes, Chris Baird, Brede Hangeland and John Arne Riise. The latter in particular I still believe is overrated.

Those previously-mentioned forwards of Arsenal have both Mikel Arteta and Aaron Ramsey to play in the centre of the pitch providing them with through balls to latch onto and general build up play for Robin van Persie and co to feed off.

Alex Song, who's great run against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday night to setup the opening goal is the holding midfielder. His lack of discipline to maintain his position and stride forward and out of position could see both Clint Dempsey and Danny Murphy with space on the counter attack in this game. The pair have 5 goals between them so far.

Up front, Bobby Zamora has 3 goals in the Premier League so far this season; all coming at Craven Cottage. Andy Johnson's three goals all came against Queens Park Rangers in a freak 6-0 victory.

Fulham are struggling to score goals under Jol and have just 3 in their 6 away games this season. 2 of those came in their 2-0 victory at Wigan.

This game is on TV Saturday evening and I'm expecting to see Arsenal dictating the game. While Fuham will try make the game as frustrating for both the opposition and fans by playing very defensively, I expect Arsenal to break them down one way or another.

Like last weekend, I think the bookmakers are being more generous than they should by pricing up Arsenal at 1.47 currently. I don't expect a Champions League hangover or 90 minutes of resilience from Fulham. This is a home win.

Scouting Report: Arsenal v Fulham

Before every Arsenal fixture, we'll bring you a Scouting Report on the Gunners' next opponents.

Former Arsenal midfielder Stewart Robson will give his pre-match view and you can get his post-match verdict in our Talking Tactics feature on Arsenal Player.

Arsène Wenger and his side host Fulham at Emirates Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday so, to find out more, we also asked journalist Paul Warburton for his thoughts and analysis.

STEWART ROBSON
"In midfield Danny Murphy and Dickson Etuhu complement each other perfectly. Murphy has an excellent passing range while Etuhu is a great athlete who breaks up play with his tough tackling and interceptions.

"When these two play well Fulham become a formidable team to play against and Arsenal must be aware of them on Saturday."

PAUL WARBURTON, KENSINGTON & CHELSEA NEWS
"It's a pretty straightforward formation really. There's four across the back, kind of a diamond in midfield and usually two strikers. Although in this case there will probably be one - Zamora is the man who is going to hold up the ball and playing off him will be either Moussa Dembele or Andy Johnson.

"It's been a bit of a slow affair from them to be honest this season. It's more to do with having Europa League games that have interfered with preparation for Premier League matches. It's simply the nature of having a midweek game followed by a weekend game - they've been very much hit and miss to tell you the truth.

"I think Fulham will be looking to hit on the break. Needless to say, with Robin van Persie on fire at the moment they have got to be expecting a strong attacking threat. Arsenal look to go forward - they are basically the attacking side of the league - so you have to look to nullify that threat before you can spring a trap at the other end.

"That said, dead-ball situations could be key. You do have Brede Hangeland who has the possibility of getting on the end of those and I think that is Fulham's best bet to score.

"They have conceded goals late on, however. They should have got points against Tottenham and Everton before where they conceded late goals. I think that the defence has probably been unlucky recently because it has suffered injuries and disrupted plans. Aaron Hughes has been the bedrock of the central area with Hangeland but has been in and out of the team. They have had to reshuffle a lot.

"Grygera, the Czech right-back, is out for the rest of the season with a cruciate ligament injury. It's not been as certain as it has been in recent years in defence.

"Their away record has not improved to anything noticeable either. Wigan was a one-off two weeks ago, but then again I think poor Wigan are in for a struggle. They've won away in Europe, but then again the quality of opposition has not necessarily been of Premier League standard. The truth of the matter is that they've recorded something like four away wins in three seasons.

"The games I've seen at the Emirates have been fairly close in truth. If I'm talking about head and heart here I guess my head would say 2-1 to Arsenal and my heart a 1-1 draw."

Robin van Persie is enjoying a prolific 2011, with 31 league goals so far

TEAM NEWS
Arsenal midfielder Abou Diaby could make his first league appearance of the season after making his comeback from an ankle injury in the midweek European win over Borussia Dortmund.

Tomas Rosicky may return after a thigh injury, but full-backs Carl Jenkinson and Kieran Gibbs are not expected to return before Christmas.

Fulham winger Damien Duff is poised to make his 400th league appearance.

Steve Sidwell and Stephen Kelly are both injury doubts.

MATCH PREVIEW
Robin is flying and Alex is on song as Arsenal make nonsense of their early-season critics. They've won five successive league games for the first time in 20 months and 11 of their last 13 matches in all competitions. There's little to suggest Fulham can end their wretched away record at the Gunners, where they've never won.

Van Persie still has a possible seven games left in which to smash Alan Shearer's record number of goals in a calendar year
Robin van Persie is unstoppable right now. His finishing is deadly and his overall reading of a game is highly astute. He has led from the front as Arsenal have surged back up the table and into the knockout stages of the Champions League.

The Flying Dutchman has netted 44 goals in 50 games for club and country this calendar year at an average of 0.88 goals a game. That's a better strike rate than Lionel Messi. Only Cristiano Ronaldo can better it with 53 in 55 games!

He's now gunning for records. His 13 goals in the first 12 league matches has only ever been bettered in the Premier League by Les Ferdinand, who hit 14 by this stage but failed to score in game 13.

The Arsenal captain has netted 31 Premier League goals in 2011. Only Alan Shearer (36 in 1995) and Thierry Henry (34 in 2004) have scored more in a calendar year.

Alex Song has had a huge influence on Arsenal's rekindled form. His powerhouse display against Dortmund was one of the strongest seen by a central midfielder this season in the Champions League. Over the past year he has learned when to make his runs and when to hold, and he no longer gives away too many silly free-kicks.

There are still defensive flaws and Fulham will be a danger at set-pieces. But their away form in the Premier League has been very poor over the years.

If Arsenal are to finish in the top four, they have to win games like this.

MATCH FACTS
Head-to-head

Arsenal have never lost at home to Fulham in any competition (W22, D3).
Fulham have only mustered six goals in their 10 Premier League visits to Arsenal and have never scored more than once in any of those matches.

Arsenal
Arsenal have won five successive Premier League matches for the first time in 20 months.
They have conceded a league-high 29% of goals from shots from outside the penalty area this season.
Robin van Persie has scored 13 league goals this season - as many as all of Fulham players combined.
According to Opta, all eight of Theo Walcott's goal assists in 2011 have been to set up van Persie.

Fulham
Fulham have won just 12 of their last 101 away matches in the Premier League.
They have used 20 players in the Premier League so far, fewer than any other team.
Manager Martin Jol failed to win in all seven London derbies against Arsenal when he was in charge at Tottenham (D3, L4).
Mark Schwarzer's record of five clean sheets this season is a tally matched only by Swansea's Michel Vorm.
Damien Duff is poised to make his 400th league appearance.

Exclusive - Baird: 'Zamora offers England something different'

Fulham defender Chris Baird believes Bobby Zamora deserves another England chance - because he offers Fabio Capello something different.

The striker , who has won two caps, started his first international against Sweden earlier this month, but was replaced after 70 minutes by Darren Bent and reports suggested he may have squandered his best opportunity to impress ahead of next summer's European Championship finals.

Baird, though, feels the former Brighton, Tottenham and West Ham star can make the step up to the next level.

He told talkSPORT: "If he keeps performing the way he has been, I can't see any reason why not. I know England have loads of great strikers but Bobby offers you something different.

"He's a great target man who holds the ball up really well and, when in the box, he can get among the goals. If he can do it for us, he can do it for England."

Baird will line up alongside Zamora on Saturday as they attempt to beat an in-form Arsenal side at the Emirates. And he insists they won't be over-awed.

He added: "We're confident, we're a good footballing side and we know we can go there and give them a game. It's always going to be hard, the quality they have in the team and they are on fire at the minute. But we've got nothing to lose.

"We have played really well in games but the luck's not been with us. It's got to change eventually. If we do the good things we have been doing, then results will come our way and we can start climbing the table."

Arsenal v Fulham preview
Arsenal aim to continue their march up the table against Fulham

Arsenal could win six consecutive Premier League games for the first time in almost two years as they play Fulham on Saturday evening.

The last time they achieved such a feat was in March 2010 as they clinched a sixth straight win against West Ham.

The recent run underlines their revival since losing to rivals Tottenham in October and they now sit seventh in the table.

The Gunners' next three fixtures are against teams currently in the bottom half of the league, with a trip to Wigan and a home game with Everton coming after Fulham's visit.

Arsene Wenger's side are also on a high after becoming the first English club to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League after beating Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday.

Robin van Persie's influence on Arsenal's form cannot be underestimated with the Dutchman having scored 10 of their last 15 goals in all competitions.

To make matters worse for Fulham, Van Persie has scored in three of the last four meetings between the two sides.

The Cottagers hover above the relegation zone and are just two points clear of 18th placed Bolton.

Martin Jol's side have often found it hard to score on their travels this season - netting in only two of their six away games.

The odds are stacked against them having never beaten Arsenal away from home and they have taken just three points at their London rivals' home ground in over 100 years.

Team news

The Gunners still have problems in defence, with Carl Jenkinson, Bacary Sagna and Kieran Gibbs injured with long-term problems.

But Abou Diaby is pushing for a start after returning as a substitute in Wednesday's win in the Champions League.

Arsene Wenger may continue with the starting XI that featured against Borussia Dortmund, meaning Laurent Koscielny would remain at right-back.

Fulham have no new injury concerns since last week's 0-0 draw at Sunderland as Zdenek Grygera continues to miss out after suffering an injury against Tottenham.

Chris Baird has been playing at right-back in Grygera's absence and is likely to stay there.

Steve Sidwell, who has not played since the defeat by Spurs, could make a return to the side while John Arne Riise will make a comeback after missing last week's trip to the Stadium of Light to be at the birth of his son.

Possible starting XIs

Arsenal: Szczesny, Koscielny, Mertesacker, Vermaelen, Santos, Arteta, Song, Ramsey, Walcott, Van Persie, Gervinho

Fulham: Schwarzer, Baird, Hangeland, Senderos, Riise, Dempsey, Murphy, Etuhu, Duff, Dembele, Zamora

Time to release Ruiz?
by DAN on NOVEMBER 25, 2011

Martin Jol's use of his substitutes at Sunderland was a source of major irritation last weekend. In a game that was gradually opening up, the Fulham boss waited until well into the last ten minutes to play his trump card: Bryan Ruiz. In fairness, the Costa Rican had been waiting for a few minutes for the ball to go out, but his brief cameo offered little opportunity for our £10.5m signing to influence the game. Indeed, his most notable contribution was a crucial tackle on Phil Bardsley in his own penalty area.

The debate about how to use Ruiz has focused on helping him acclimatise to English football. His only start for the club, against Blackburn back in September, resulted in a half-time substitution. Since then, he's been solely used as a substitute, helping to stretch the play – usually with Fulham chasing a goal – to great effect. He has been a willing worker for the team, dropping deep to pick up possession, and often finding a killer pass to release a team-mate. But Fulham are lacking something in the offensive third at the moment and it seems counter-intuitive to leave a man who we signed to add flair and creativity on the bench.

There are also signs that Ruiz is getting to grips to the pace of the Premier League. His performance against Everton – not just the terrifically taken equaliser, but his harrying of the visiting defence – and the pace and power he showed as Fulham nearly clawed their way back into the game against Spurs suggest that he's no longer overawed by the physicality of the English game. The worry in past weeks was that fielding him against some of the more physical sides could result in him being cynically nullified or, worse, pick up a serious injury.

Sooner or later, Jol will have to find a place for him in a side that is still misfiring. Tomorrow's trip to Arsenal seems like the perfect opportunity. Match fitness isn't a problem – Ruiz captained Costa Rica in their entertaining 2-2 draw with Spain ten days ago and comfortably lasted the whole 90 minutes. Nor are Arsenal the sort of side who will kick him out of the contest. Indeed, Ruiz might flourish by highlighting some of Arsenal's defensive deficiencies and with the likes of Zamora and Dembele able to profit from a few more through balls, could be an assist if we are to end our awful run at Arsenal.

The obvious place to use him would be wide on the right, but if Jol opts against keeping much of his familiar line-up, he could play just behind Bobby Zamora. That might mean sacrificing Andy Johnson, but Jol has made much of his desire to have his side playing more football away from home. The resultant displays have been encouraging – and far more open than much of what we witnessed under Roy Hodgson – but this would be a bold statement of attacking intent. Ruiz certainly won't be able to influence the game from the Emirates bench, after all.

GunnersGaming Preview: Arsenal v Fulham

GunnersGaming by Betsson, Arsenal's Official Betting Partner, give us the rundown on some of the markets on offer ahead of Saturday's London derby against Fulham...

Saturday will see Emirates Stadium play host to its first London derby of the season as Fulham make the trip north to tackle the in-form Gunners. The Cottagers find themselves at the wrong end of a tightly-packed mid-table having been somewhat of an enigma this season.

They are the only team to have taken points off Manchester City and scored an incredible six goals past QPR, but maintaining that form over a season that started all the way back in June has proved their biggest undoing.

Last season saw Arsenal edge a closely-fought battle 2-1 at home before being held to a 2-2 draw on the final day of the campaign.

Robin van Persie and Theo Walcott both scored that day and on current form who would bet against those two repeating their feats when the teams line up on Saturday evening? Van Persie to score first is a well-fancied 5/2 (3.5) and Walcott to strike in an Arsenal win is available at an attractive 11/5 (3.2).

If the clash follows the pattern of last season's games there seems a good chance of seeing more than 2.5 goals, available at 9/14 (1.65).

Arsène Wenger's side are on a terrific run of form, having won eight of their last nine games in all competitions. They have also won 10 of their 12 games at Emirates Stadium this season, so it is no surprise that an Arsenal win is well backed at 7/15 (1.48).

A repeat of last season's 2-1 win priced at 71/10 (8.15) looks good value, especially when you consider that the Gunners have played out six 2-1 wins already this season.

With Fulham sure to try and put the shackles on the unstoppable Van Persie, perhaps that could provide others with space and opportunities. Gervinho at 8/5 (2.6) and Arteta at 3/1 (4.0) will both be hoping to add to their goal tallies for the season.

GunnersGaming would like to wish the team all the best against Fulham. If you're new to GunnersGaming.com there is no better time to get started as we will refund your first three non-winning bets (up to the value of £25) and double your first deposit in the casino (up to the value of £200).

Duo doubts for Cottagers

Fulham boss Martin Jol has injury doubts over Steve Sidwell and Stephen Kelly for the tough trip to London rivals Arsenal on Saturday.

Both players are facing a race against time to be ready for the clash at the Emirates and will be assessed before the game as Jol's men aim to put a dent in the Gunners' recent charge up the table.

There are no other fresh injury worries for the Cottagers, so Jol must decide whether to recall Andrew Johnson up front while Bryan Ruiz will also hope for a start after a disappointing start to his career in the Premier League.

Lee Dixon: Confident Arsenal to attack Fulham into submission

Lee Dixon is purring about his old club's forward play and, with attack the best form of defence for the current Arsenal side, is calling Saturday's late kick-off a comfortable home win...

Match Odds/Asian Handicap
With all due respect to Fulham this looks like a classic mismatch. Arsenal are bang in-form, powered by the goals of the hottest striker in the Premier League, while Fulham are still finding their feet under Martin Jol and sit 17th in the table, level on points with Wolves and Sunderland.

That, of course, translates into tight odds - 1.48 - about the home win. But I must have Arsenal on my side this weekend. When confident, no Premier League side is more dangerous than the Gunners and, right now, after five straight Premier League wins, Arsene Wenger's side are very confident.

Let's take Arsenal to win by two goals or more on the Asian handicap (-1.5).

Over/Under 2.5 Goals/Correct Score
Fulham's away games have been the lowest scoring in the league so far with just nine goals scored in total. Then again, they meet an Arsenal side in good form, who have netted 12 times in six home games. It's a bit of a headscratcher!

Thomas Vermaelen's return has been big for the home side, but the current defensive unit is not one of the finest vintages in Arsenal's history and the current side is at its worst when the defending and best when attacking.

It would be suicidal for Fulham to attempt to ride out 90 minutes of the home attack and with players of the calibre of Bobby Zamora and Clint Dempsey they can trouble their London rivals.

Overs it is for me then, but the temptation is to play a few scorelines - 3-0 and 3-1 seem likely final scores for me and give the option to trade a little if the game pans out as I expect.

First Goalscorer
He will be a short price but how could you not back Robin van Persie? Read the following Opta stats and tell me you aren't going to back him on Saturday: 31 goals in 29 Premier League games in 2011; seven in four appearances at the Emirates; five in seven games against Fulham.
And it was another brace on Wednesday night - the man is demanding to be backed!

Recommended Bets

2pts Back Arsenal -1.5 on the Asian Handicap @ 2.36 (you are backing Arsenal to win by two goals or more)
2pts Back Over 2.5 goals @ 1.75
1pt Back 3-0 & 3-1 correct scores @ 12.5 & 13.0
2pts Back Robin van Persie to score first

Gignac surely on his way out of l'OM

Exciting times for Andre-Pierre Gignac. According to this article in l'Equipe:

Gignac had a barny with Deschamps after not being picked for a recent Champions League game
Gignac threw a water bottle and was asked to apologise to the group
He refused. Deschamps then asked Gignac to cease using the "tu" (familiar) form of address, and to switch to the "vous". Gignac reciprocated (this is a fairly big deal in France, I think)
Gignac then "emptied his bag" in front of the group (essentially unloading all his frustrations), blaming Deschamps for all kinds of problems
Some teammates share Gignac's concerns, so Deschamps is in a sticky position.

Marseille are skint, so can't sack Gignac (he has a big contract), but at this point he's clearly a problem.  This means that he's almost certainly on his way in January, but perhaps more importantly, he should be available at a knock-down rate as Marseille almost have to get rid.  A loan may be an option, but under the circumstances something more permanent may be a more efficient move.

Arsenal vs Fulham: Home win looks the banker of the weekend
Fulham have not won a Premier League away game against a fellow London team since 2003

The fact that Fulham have never won an away game with Arsenal and are generally dreadful when travelling to fellow London clubs in the Premier League means it is hard to see anything other than a home win at the Emirates.

Celebrations will have been rife at Arsenal in recent days after sealing their progress to the Champions League knockout stages, but this should not stop punters believing they can follow up with another quick victory.

Arsenal have won their last two Premier League games directly following a Champions League occasion and this time there has been no travelling involved.

Therefore, Arsenal's odds of 4/9 to beat Fulham look solid.

It is hard to state much of a case for Fulham, as they have triumphed in just one of their last nine games against Arsenal and lost 22 of their 25 career away games with the Gunners.

Throw in that they have failed to win a London derby away from home in the Premier League since 2003, a run of 34 games, and it shows the task they have emerging victorious at the Emirates.

However, some will say that this run will have to end at some point and optimistic punters can get 6/1 on a Fulham victory, with the draw priced at 10/3.

Fulham's chances may be given a substantial boost if Wenger decides the time is right to rest Robin Van Persie.

The Dutchman has already played twice this week and Arsenal have a crunch Carling Cup tie with Manchester City in midweek upcoming that they will want Van Persie ready for.

Thus, he may be left on the bench against Fulham, which in turn could offer some value in the first goalscorer market.

Summer signing Park Chu-Young is still to make his Premier League debut and could be worth siding with at 7/1 to score first, given that he will have a point to prove and reason to impress the fans.

Arsenal v Fulham Preview

It`s the short trip to North London this Saturday afternoon for a showdown with Arsenal. Covered live by ESPN those Fulham supporters unable to get tickets for the clash can watch the action unfold live on the television. But, it promises to be a hard grind to get anything from a side now flying high after an indifferent start.

Vital Quotes:
A clash with Arsenal will, inevitably, bring to the fore the recent speculation that Mark Schwarzer could well have been keeping for Arsenal with a transfer being mooted several times in the recent past.

Talking of such a move, Schwarzer has set the record straight, remarking,

"You can never harbour any regrets. What was done was done and you move on."

"The minute I signed a new deal at Fulham the whole situation was dealt with, otherwise I wouldn`t have re-signed. I`m more than happy where I am and I`ve said from the day I arrived at Fulham that I love playing here. It`s been a great time in my career."

"Who knows [if I will finish my career here]? That would be great but you never say never."

Well I, for one, am grateful he never moved on!

Arsenal Team News:
High-flying Arsenal, with at 8-2 drubbing at Old Trafford now nothing more than a bad memory, are likely to be without the following injured players this Saturday for our visit, Carl Jenkinson and Kieran Gibbs, both of whom are out until around the Christmas period.

Possibly returning after injury is Tomas Rosicky whilst Abou Diaby could make his first Premier League appearance since picking up an ankle injury.
Player to watch: Robin van Persie
The Dutch striker is scoring for fun at the moment averaging almost a goal a game. He`s one of the best finishers,, if not the best, in the Premier League and could derail our hopes of getting something from this game.

Fulham Team News:
Although Grygera is a long term doubt, Martin Jol will be hoping that both Stephen Kelly and Steve Sidwell can shake off injury concerns.

Dickson Etuhu is likely to cover for Sidwell if he is unable to pass a fitness test whilst Jol could opt for a back four of Senderos, Baird, Hangeland and Hughes if Kelly isn`t fit.
Player to watch: Brede Hangeland
Once rumoured to be an Arsenal target, the Norwegian could / should deliver the kind of commanding performance that will make Arsene Wenger regret spending on the German centre back, Metasecker, although we`re not grumbling!

Match Facts & Stats
Anyone ridiculing my doubts about getting anything from this fixture might like to consider the following statistics.

In 25 fixtures on Arsenal turf, we`ve never won with Arsenal winning 22 times and drawing 3 times.

As for goals relieving the doom, we`ve scored 6 in our last 10 visits but have never scored more than 1 in a game!

And as for our away form in the Premier League, we`ve won a paltry 12 out of the last 101

It`s all doom and gloom!

Match Prediction:
I reckon, considering our away form and the form Arsenal are in at the moment, that I`d be carted away in a strait jacket if I predicted a Fulham win for this one. Therefore, is the best we can hope for a draw? Either way, come Sunday morning that Premier League table will still carry a menacing look about it with the relegation trap-door firmly in our sites!

Next Fixtures:
Our next Premier League fixture has us entertaining Liverpool next weekend. Before then we do have a Europa League fixture against FC Twente, on Thursday, in Holland

Injury News
(http://www.fulhamfc.com/Images/MainNews/NewsPages/Players/Sidwell/clapping1.jpg)

During his pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday's London derby against Arsenal at the Emirates, Manager Martin Jol revealed the latest injury news.

Jol will welcome John Arne Riise back to his starting eleven after the defender missed last weekend's match against Sunderland. However, Fulham will be without the following First Team players at the Emirates.

Steve Sidwell

"He is still recovering from his hernia operation. It's disappointing because we thought it would take ten days but it's taking a bit longer. Hopefully he will be fit next week."

Stephen Kelly

"Stephen picked up an injury to his right thigh when he was on international duty so he won't be available on Saturday."

Damien Duff

"Damien has a little problem with his calf so he won't be involved against Arsenal."

Simon Davies

"Simon will be back in the next two weeks. He will play a game with the Development Squad first and then hopefully join the First Team."

Zdenek Grygera

"Grygera is a long term injury and he will be out of action for about five or six months after his operation in December."

Orlando Sa

"Orlando is back in training this week but won't be ready Saturday's match."

ROSICKY IN GUNNERS CONTENTION

Arsenal report no fresh injury problems ahead of Saturday's Premier League clash against Fulham at the Emirates Stadium.

Midfielder Tomas Rosicky (thigh) could be in contention after missing out against his old club Borussia Dortmund in midweek, while Laurent Koscielny is set to continue at right-back in the absence of Carl Jenkinson (back) and Bacary Sagna (ankle).

Midfielder Ryo Miyaichi (ankle) remains out, as does Jack Wilshere (ankle) and Kieran Gibbs (hernia).

Fulham will be without several first-team players.

Republic of Ireland winger Damien Duff will miss the game at the Emirates Stadium with a problem with his right calf, while international team-mate Stephen Kelly is also sidelined with a thigh injury.

Steve Sidwell (hernia), Zdenek Grygera (cruciate), Orlando Sa (hamstring) and Simon Davies (knee) are also missing, although John Arne Riise returns after missing last week's clash at Sunderland due to the birth of his son.

Teams:

Arsenal (from): Szczesny, Koscielny, Vermaelen, Mertesacker, Santos, Walcott, Song, Ramsey, Arteta, van Persie, Gervinho, Fabianski, Frimpong, Chamakh, Arshavin, Diaby, Benayoun, Djourou, Rosicky.

Fulham (from): Schwarzer, Etheridge, Riise, Hangeland, Baird, Hughes, Dembele, Briggs, Kasami, Murphy, Gecov, Etuhu, Dempsey, Frei, Johnson, Zamora, Ruiz, Kacaniklic.

Take Our Chances
(http://www.fulhamfc.com/Images/MainNews/NewsPages/Management/Jol/Conf1.jpg)

Martin Jol is calling for his team to display a ruthless streak in front of goal at the Emirates on Saturday and extend Fulham's recent upturn in results away from home.

Fulham followed up their fine victory over Wigan at the DW Stadium at the end of October with a draw at the Stadium of Light last weekend and Jol believes his team have the quality and experience to cause an upset in North London this weekend.

"We have a good, experienced team and we're capable of getting a result on Saturday," said Jol. "Our priority is to defend well but play with confidence and belief. We've done that in our last two away games and kept two clean sheets so we've got confidence.

"We're always capable of creating chances. Of course Arsenal have their strengths but they also have weaknesses like any other team. They play with a lot of possession and there's a lot of talent in their team but they still have to rotate at the back so hopefully we can exploit the space we get.

"If we can do the same as we did against Wigan and score a few goals from three or four attempts then we can get a result. We have to exploit our chances – especially in the first 30 minutes of a game. If you score the first goal it gives you a nice cushion for the rest of the game."

Injured Duff to miss Arsenal game

Fulham wide-man Damien Duff will miss Saturday's derby against Arsenal.

Duff has been nursing a calf problem and has failed to recover in time for the game at the Emirates Stadium, where the Whites will also be without Stephen Kelly and Steve Sidwell.

Defender Kelly is struggling with a thigh injury he recently suffered while playing for the Republic of Ireland, while midfielder Sidwell is still recovering after a hernia operation.

Fulham had hoped to have Sidwell available for the clash with his former club but he is now aiming to return to action next week.

John Arne Riise will play, having missed last weekend's draw at Sunderland to attend the birth of his son.

Fulham trio ruled out of Arsenal clash

DAMIEN Duff has been ruled out of tomorrow's trip to the Emirates with a calf problem.

Boss Martin Jol is also with Steve Sidwell following his hernia op, while Stephen Kelly (groin) is still sidelined.

However, the Whites welcome back John Arne Riise into the side after missing the draw at Sunderland.

Orlando Sa is back in full training after his hamstring injury but is not ready for selection, while Simon Davies is a fortnight away from a return.

8 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW: ARSENAL VS FULHAM

Van Persie scored two more in Arsenal's 2-1 win against Norwich last week to continue his lethal run of form and take his tally for the season to 13. His average is now more than a goal a game, averaging one every 81 minutes 23 seconds.

Van Persie has got 63% of shots on target so far this season, from an incredible 52 attempts at goal, averaging an attempt every 20 minutes 20 seconds. His conversion rate of chances to goals is now 25%.

Gervinho got more shots on target than any other player in the EA SPORTS Player Performance Index in last week's games, with five against Norwich, yet did not mange to hit the back of the net.

Mikel Arteta covered the most ground for Arsenal for the second game in a row with 11,082 metres against Norwich. Areta has average 111.43 metres per minute for Arsenal and Everton this season.

In comparison to van Persie's mpressive run in front of goal, Clint Dempsey may feel aggrieved at his return of three goals from 41 attempts and 68% on target. A chance conversion rate of just 7%,Aaron Hughes covered the most ground for Fulham against Sunderland with 9,464 metres, despite Fulham being out run by Sunderland by 94,578 metres to 98,518 metres.

Mark Schwarzer was credited with a great performance in Fulham's 0-0 draw against Sunderland in their last Barclays Premier League outing. Schwarzer made 7 saves in that game, taking his total for the season to 70, the third highest total in the EA SPORTS Player Performance Index.

Arsenal, by contrast, had to be at full strength to defeat Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday.

Arsenal to secure another three points against Fulham

The bookmakers make Arsenal 1.44 shots to maintain their terrific run of form by beating Fulham in their London derby clash at the Emirates this weekend, and if the stats are anything to go by then another three points looks assured.

Fulham have never won away against Arsenal in any competition in 25 attempts, losing on 22 occasions, and the have won just one of their last nine PL games against the Gunners.

The Cottagers have also won just three out of 45 Premier League London derbies away from home and none of the last 34 since they beat Tottenham in August 2003.

No surprise then that Arsenal are long odds-on shots, and it really is impossible to envisage anything other than a comfortable victory for Arsene Wenger's men.

However rather than play the 1.44 I think that backing Robin van Persie to score any time at 1.67 with bet365, Boylesports, Betfred and Paddy Power makes far greater appeal.

The Dutchman has done us plenty of favours in recent weeks thanks to his goal scoring exploits and has now scored 31 goals in 29 Premier League games in 2011 and seven in his last four appearances at the Emirates.

He has also scored in five of his seven Premier League starts against Fulham. I certainly wouldn't want to desert a winning formula by not backing him to net, and also fancy him to score first as well at 4 with bet365 and Paddy Power.

The stats also suggest that Fulham will struggle to score and that throws up some plays in the correct score markets.

I like the look of 3-0 at 12 with Paddy Power and 4-0 at 19 with bet365, Betfred and Boylesports.

Arsenal vs Fulham: Preview

At some point credit is due to Arsene Wenger for turning Arsenal's season around – they may not win anything, but I think most of their fans knew that before the season started. The melodrama of the early season has proven to be just that, and everything seems fairly rosey in the Emirates garden.

A habit that Arsenal seem to have picked up in the last couple of the weeks is winning. Not playing particularly well, not being especially easy on the eye, but picking up points all the same. After the backboneless seasons that have gone by, that must a beautiful sight for their fans.

Fulham travel to the Emirates averaging a paltry half a goal a game on their travels, and in some really mixed form (3 losses, two wins, and a draw in their last six). It's the same old problem with Fulham; awkward at Craven Cottage, lightweight away from it, and never scoring enough goals.

That being said, they do have the capability of digging in and making life uncomfortable for Arsenal – and Moussa Dembele and Bobby Zamora will present a threat at some point to the home defence. It will definitely be intriguing to see how they cope with Fulham's set-pieces.

Injury-wise, Abou Diaby may be fit to make his first league game of the season and Tomas Rosicky should play some part. Carl Jenkinson, Jack Wilshere, and Bacary Sagna remain out though. Fulham will be welcoming back John-Arne Riise after missing the Sunderland game for family reasons, although Damien Duff will likely not feature owing to a thigh strain.

The smart money is obviously on the home win, but how could you not also look at Robin Van Persie(4/1) to score first?

Fulham unable to cope with Arsenal's pace and guile up front – 3-1 home win.

Fulham boss Martin Jol: 'Arsenal have weaknesses'

The Dutchman believes his side can end Arsenal's winning run

Fulham boss Martin Jol is looking to expose the weaknesses Arsenal possess when the two sides meet tomorrow at the Emirates.

The Gunners have been in excellent form in recent weeks, but the Dutchman believes his side can end Arsenal's winning run.

"Of course Arsenal have their strengths but they also have weaknesses like any other team," Jol said.

"They play with a lot of possession and there's a lot of talent in their team but they still have to rotate at the back so hopefully we can exploit the space we get.

"We have a good, experienced team and we're capable of getting a result on Saturday.

"Our priority is to defend well but play with confidence and belief. We've done that in our last two away games and kept two clean sheets so we've got confidence."

The Fulham manager will be looking to a similar performance in front of goal to last week's 2-0 victory at Wigan.

"If we can do the same as we did against Wigan and score a few goals from three or four attempts then we can get a result.

"We have to exploit our chances – especially in the first 30 minutes of a game.

"If you score the first goal it gives you a nice cushion for the rest of the game."

Blackburn Rovers rival Fulham for Ajax striker Mounir El Hamdaoui

According to reports Blackburn Rovers are interested in Ajax forward Mounir El Hamdaoui.

It is understood that the Dutch outfit are keen to hear offers from interested parties in January for the unsettled striker.

Despite massive injury problems in attack, Ajax coach Frank de Boer refuses to consider the former Tottenham forward.

El Hamdaoui has had it made clear he's not in De Boer's plans, as former Ajax star Johnny Rep declared: "A fit El Hamdaoui is not an option. For him, he can just train to keep fit."

It is believed that Rovers' Premier League rivals Fulham are also in the hunt.

JOL WARY OF VAN PERSIE THREAT

Martin Jol insists Fulham can get something from Saturday's trip to Arsenal, but knows they must find a way to shackle Robin van Persie to stand any chance.

The in-form Holland international is in the midst of an incredible scoring run for the Gunners, with 38 goals in 41 matches this year.

Jol was quick to praise his compatriot ahead of Saturday's Barclays Premier League encounter, but believes Fulham can cause an upset in north London.

"The priority is to defend well but still play with confidence and belief," Jol said. "I think we have done that in our last three or four away games.

"We have kept a clean sheet three times so we have some confidence of doing that [again]. I think we are always capable of creating a few chances.

"Of course they have their strengths, but they also have their weaknesses like any other team.

"The other night Borussia Dortmund did well against them but Arsenal have the quality now with Van Persie, he is the one scoring the goals and has a hell of a record.

"They play in a specific style with two wing players, Van Persie up front and three midfielders - two attacking, one sitting. That has changed a bit from a couple of years ago when van Persie was a lower number 10 or second striker.

"They are playing with a lot of possession and of course they have a lot of talent in the team, but they still have to rotate at the back. Hopefully we can exploit the space we get.

"In any game we will get chances, so if we can do the same we did against Wigan, where we scored two goals out of three or four attempts, then we can always get a result."

Former Tottenham manager Jol was also full of praise for Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, labelling him "one of the greatest" in the game.

Jol failed to win any north London derbies against the Frenchman during his time at the Spurs helm and, while admitting it still rankles, thinks the Gunners had a better team back then.

"That was a regret because Arsenal were our biggest rivals but we had three draws," he said. "We were close and even in the last game Spurs played at Highbury we finished 1-1.

"They had a good side then with Gilberto Silva and Thierry Henry - old war-horses. They were a different team then with a lot of experience and Henry was a problem.

"There were a few good games and close ones, but they always had the specific quality, especially at home, to have the edge."

Jol will be without several first-team players for Saturday's game.

Republic of Ireland winger Damien Duff is out with a calf problem, while international team-mate Stephen Kelly is also sidelined with a thigh injury.

Although John Arne Riise returns after missing last week's clash at Sunderland due to the birth of his son, Steve Sidwell, Zdenek Grygera, Orlando Sa and Simon Davies are all missing.

Such injuries have seen an increasing number of players linked with a move to Craven Cottage in January, including Marseille striker Andre-Pierre Gignac.

The France international, who was set to join the Cottagers in August before Marseille pulled the plug, has fallen out with manager Didier Deschamps and has been relegated to the reserves.

Asked whether he would consider another move for Gignac, Jol said: "If we do, we will let you know.

"Of course we always look to improve the squad and that is what we try to do, but I don't want to mention names."

Have Your Say

As part of a regular feature in this season's matchday programme, we're inviting fans on Fulham's social media channels to have their say on topical football subjects.

Ahead of every home Premier League game, we'll post a question of Facebook and Twitter and invite you to respond with your thoughts. Our pick of the responses will be selected and printed in the following matchday programme.

This week, after the Football Association raised the possibility of goal-line technology being introduced as "quickly as possible", the subject of our debate is:

Do you believe video replay technology should be introduced into football and, if yes, to what extent (goal-line, offsides, penalty calls etc)?

Share your views now on Fulham's official Facebook or Twitter feed.

Jol coy on Gignac speculation
Fulham boss quiet on rumours linking him with Marseille striker

Andre-Pierre Gignac: Fell out with Marseille manager Didier Deschamps after he was dropped to the bench

Fulham boss Martin Jol has refused to be drawn into speculation linking his side with Marseille striker Andre-Pierre Gignac.

The France international is playing in the Ligue 1 club's reserve side after falling out with manager Didier Deschamps.
It is understood that Gignac was unhappy after being left out of the starting line-up in Wednesday's UEFA Champions League clash against Olympiakos.

The Cottagers were linked with the 25-year-old in the summer and the French club later confirmed that he was in negotiations to move to Craven Cottage on transfer deadline day.

The majority of Fulham's goals have been shared between Clint Dempsey, Andrew Johnson and Bobby Zamora this season, but Gignac has been a consistent scorer in France.

Speculation

But asked if Fulham have made another offer for the player, Jol's response was: "If we do, we will let you know.

"Of course we always look to improve the squad and that is what we try to do, but I don't want to mention names."

Gignac signed for Marseille in 2010 after a successful spell at Toulouse and has won 16 caps for his national side.

This season, he has failed to find the net which led to his omission from the starting line-up in Europe in midweek.
