Title: The Winter Season - FOF's January Transfer Thread 2012
Post by: Mr Fulham on December 13, 2011, 08:42:50 PM
okeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh, lads, it's on.  076.gif

The transfer season is about to begin and, since the Summer Transfer Thread was such a tremendous success, I decided to start a similar thread for the January transfer window. I will try to provide inside infos from my agency mate again.

Same as in summer, feel free to contribute, discuss and debate about Fulham's, the Premier League's and Europe's transfer activities. :wine:

Let's have a JOLly good time altogether!!!

Your loyal

Excellent Mr Fulham sir.

Looking forward to weeks of idle gossip, misguided speculation, agents lies, lazy journalism and false dawns, all building up to a final day of glorious frenzy.

Bring it on!

Outs: BH Riise, Duff, Zamora, Dempsey, Stockdale

Ins: A couple of old gits from the Italian league who are past it; a couple of young gits from the Belgian and Dutch leagues; a couple of players from the German and Spanish leagues who can't get a game with their mid-table teams.

The revamped squad begins to play ball the Jol way around mid-March. Hope there'll still be time to finish 17th.

Stockdale? Why? He's still on loan and I highly doubt we could sell him. Let alone would sell him.

We can get money for what is clearly the 2nd best English goalkeeper now lacing them up. Besides, we have the Hungarian dude and we're supposedly going after the 12 fingered Mexican guy. Besides, Black Mark can play well into his 50s, so there's nothing really lost.

As for "why Dempsey?" He is at the point in his career where his value will never be higher.

Welcome aboard mate.

I think that we are okay for strikers if AJ agrees a new deal and Zamora bucks his ideas up.

If we can shift Zamora for 10 million then I would like to see us bring in someone that can finish and will compliment the current crop.

Part of the problem this season is that BZ hasn't adapted to Jol's tactics and Ruiz appears to be a square peg in a round hole.

I think at least 2 strikers (one as a replacement for AJ, the other to pressure Zamora), or 3 strikers if Zamora leaves. Suggestions such as Maynard and Rhodes would be decent, but I'd prefer just one of those 2 and a continental striker who can play 4-5-1 (or 4-3-3, whichever way you call it)

I think a central midfielder to replace Murphy (I seriously think Huddlestone would be a good option here) and perhaps another winger to replace Duff (who I think will also be shipped out - 30+, high wages, squad player)

As you suggest, perhaps a RB, although I think Kelly has been admirable here and should be able to play the season out now that we've no Europe commitments. Hughes or Baird can be back up options if necessary

striker is a must whether Zamora stays or goes. Anything else can probably wait until the summer.

A decent finisher, a back up striker,  a left back and a central midfielder who can pass the ball well to replace Murphy therefore shipping out BZ, AJ and Murphy.

Trouble is who do we get and how much have we got to spend?

Chamakh is off to ACoN and is even more off form than Torres and Zamora at the moment. Nor is he a goalscorer. Really need to try to get ourselves one of those 15PL goals a season strikers, where to get one of those is anybodys guess

Gregory Van der Wiel has agreed a 5 year deal with Valencia, clubs close to agreeing a fee.

Eduardo Vargas on his way to Napoli also for around €14m, going to make it even harder for Chelsea to get through in the champs league.

Agree that our Number One priority is a striker and a good back up even if BZ and AJ stay. BZ will never find the fitness he had a few seasons ago before the leg break. AJ may or may not sign a contract. Sa is Sa and a back up player. So forget about full backs and midfield players. A striker is a must and has been for years. But we just keep missing out.

Surely the biggest priority is somebody to replace Murphy. Not necessarily this season but someone who can take that on progressively over the next 12 months. Who the hell that could be and what he would cost though is another matter.

I for one am not looking forward to the January transfer window. All indications are that we will have more players leaving than coming in. I can accept the fans attitudes to Zamora at the moment and the fact that Johnson will not accept the contract offered by the club. However the board have to consider taking money now for a prime asset rather than just let it go for free. Zamora has always been a Jeklyl and hide and Johnson has maybe one more swan song. Forget what we have done to support the players through injury and resurrecting careers. The days of loyalty to a club left years ago. The last player we nursed and was loyal was Chris Coleman and he did in my mind repay us with enthusiasm and appreciation.

Life has to move on. If we have made any money out of Europe as a club I would be very surprised this season. We are Fulham. I feel sure as fans we would love some home silverware, such as the FA Cup, Carling Cup. Lets face it we have enjoyed our European Experiences it is a great achievement for a club so friendly and small. If we have a domestic cup run and win a trophy we can have it all again. Fulham Fans would love to go to Wembley and watch a final like I did in 1975, that to me is what we need as fans at the moment.

We will never attract big names in the transfer market but we are developing a more youthful squad under MJ, it would appear that this is a board mandate. I think it is the right way. We will not get relegated this season we have too much experienced and players who do wear the shirt with pride. At this moment we have enough young players coming through that just need palying time to finish the apprenticeships. If we are going to buy then lets buy young with some experience, such as Sinclair, Dyer, Moses, for this window and hope that the unrest will at least be arrested by the enthusiasm of youth and a good FA Cup run

I agree with Mr BugariaWhite.

We don't have the pedigree or the pulling power or the finances to pull in big-name players.

Going for us are our manager (credible, well connected), our location (London is better than other places I can think of) and our stability.

Beyond that, continuing to develop our younger players and investing wisely in up-and-coming players rather than established stars is important.

Wants:

Gignac
Maynard/similar unproven, hungry striker with a good pedigree in a lower/lesser division!
Noble (this must be the minimum standard that we target for someone to replace Murphy, has a good eye for a pass, a good engine, and can score a goal).

Have said this before, Rodallega would be an excellent buy for us. He's a proven Premier League striker but because he's been in poor form this season and his contract is up this summer he'll be available on the cheap.

Johnson/Zamora (one of them)
Duff
Halliche
another one or two elder player(s)

Ins:
Clyne
Maynard / Rhodes
Gignac (if possible)
winger (Snodgrass, Adomah or Kakuta)
Noble / Gardner / Brama

Instead of bringing a winger in why aren't we looking at replacing Duff with Frei?

We will be playing Ruiz, Dempsey and Dembele out in the wide positions. It would be an ideal chance to see hwt Frei is made of instead of buying some unknown lad from Bristol City.

That is why we are developing the likes of Trotta and Donovan etc

I see your point but I see Frei more as a left winger or even central midfielder...Adomah or Snodgrass would be for the right position.
Having said this, Kasami's future should be as a backup for Moussa or as a new Danny Murphy. I see him as a central midfielder, not exactly as a right midfielder.

Wilfried Zaha has signed a contract extension at Palace. Gutted.

didn't realise Clyne was out of contract soon, i'd snap him up in a heartbeat. Would likely mean somebody like Kelly would have to go but i'm not necessarily opposed to that.

With Grygera on a 1yr contract, and in reality not going to get an extension would we let Kelly go and be left with one RB?

I reckon Rhodes  is worth the punt, he looks like the one who will make the step up

Complete refresh of the three forwards at the club, AJ & BZ out and Sa stays until the summer.
Bring in Rhodes, Maynard and one more and that would be a good move I think.

Then a CM to add to the squad and I think that would be fine.
Not sure we really need to get a RB this window as we have Kelly & Baird who can play there.

While that would be new and exciting I'm completely against only having strikers with none or very little Premiership experience. Because very few actually make the step up from the lower leagues to the top and foreign players, as good as they might be, often takes quite a while to adapt. We'll need at least one proven striker when the January window closes, IMHO.

I'm kind of hoping that Grygera will still be here come July 2nd, such a class act.

That may not necessarily mean he's staying there. EVDS did this with Fulham, when he knew he was going to Manu; it ensured that we got more dosh in the deal. Maybe Palace/Zaha are doing the same thing?

Gignac deal is ON.

....however, that's no confirmation because there are many interested teams from Germany, France, Spain and Italy.

Sweet! That must mean we weren't that far apart back in the summer in terms of the deal.

What's the word on Rhodes?

A deal was done and dusted in summer for Gignac, only for OM to refuse to let him go because they failed to agree terms with Amauri and were unable to complete a deal for Asamoah Gyan.

No news on Jordan Rhodes. I think he will stay at Huddersfield until the end of the season - I hope we can sign him, though. Class act.

Freiburg confirm they want to sell at least six players, including skipper Heiko Butscher and young left-back Felix Bastians. Bastians is a very very talented player who is on the verge of an international call-up.

Hanlon expecting to stay

Hibs defender not expecting a January transfer

Paul Hanlon: Not expecting to move clubs in January

Hibernian left-back Paul Hanlon is not expecting to move clubs when the January transfer window opens.

Fulham are believed to be keen on the 21-year-old defender, who is contracted to Hibernian until the summer of 2016.

Hanlon is pleased his performances have caught the eye elsewhere, although his focus is on helping the Easter Road club.

Hibs are currently level on points with bottom-of-the-table Dunfermline, something Hanlon is keen to rectify.

"It's good to be recognised, but nothing has come from it and I'm not expecting anything to happen anytime soon," said Hanlon.

"I'm just focused on playing well for Hibs and helping the team push up the league."

Adomah's no roamer

Published: Today

BRISTOL CITY have issued a hands-off warning to top-flight clubs circling winger Albert Adomah.

The Ghanaian international, 24, has been in sensational form this season.

Scouts from numerous sides have been tracking him, with Everton and Fulham leading the chase.

But boss Derek McInnes is under no pressure to sell Adomah and is getting money to spend in the transfer window.

Meanwhile, Manchester City defender Ryan McGivern looks like making his loan move to the Robins permanent.

McGivern, 21, has impressed McInnes, who plans to launch a £300,000 bid next month.

So we probably have the best odds of getting him, all things being equal?*

*of course if another side offered OM a fortune then things won't be equal!
