Fulham plan to bid for Huddersfield goal-machine Jordan Rhodes, as they fear losing Clint Dempsey.

USA international Dempsey has so far declined fresh terms at Craven Cottage and has just 12 months left on his contract.

The attacking midfielder has a clutch of top Premier League clubs after him following his 23-goal haul last term.

Cottagers boss Martin Jol is already making plans for life without the 29-year-old Texan, and is targeting Rhodes.

Rhodes smashed 40 goals last season for the League One Terriers to help them to promotion.

But the 22-year-old has a gentleman's agreement with Town, allowing him to quit this summer.

Huddersfield owner Dean Hoyle begged Rhodes to stay in January, when he rejected a £3million offer from West Ham, but knows he cannot stand in his way indefinitely.

Really hope we do not get suckered here and end up paying more than a few million with more payments based on appearances for him. It is still a huge risk whether he will make an real impact in the premiership playing our system.
