Carshalton Athletic FC has been awarded the Surrey Charter Standard Community Club award for 2012, beating local rivals Sutton United, Blue Square South champions Woking and many others to one of The FA's greatest community accolades, writes James Barrett.

"There was a high standard of nominations which made the decision-making process very difficult," said Surrey FA football development officer, Gary Mulcahey. "Carshalton Athletic demonstrated an excellent and safe environment for their young players to perform in, and conveyed a strong dedication to developing a local football community thanks to their willing staff and volunteers."

Carshalton Athletic has a staggering 43 junior teams for both girls and boys, the borough's only football academies again for both girls and boys, the UK's largest soccer school and over 2000 members.

What a shame for us locals FFC no longer play friendlies against Carshalton.
