unless Fulham somehow bulldoze Craven Cottage, and/or are sold to Ken Bates, I'm going nowhere.

Puh-leez! My Fulham fandom ceased being about Americans long ago.
Wherever Clint plays, I'll be rooting for his personal success.
Absolutely. McBride was my impetus, and, as much as I love Dempsey, the club has my heart now. If he leaves, I'll wish him success everywhere except at the Cottage.
I fear relegation more than I fear not having any Yanks in the squad. Watching them on Saturday morning has become such a tradition in the house...I'm not sure how it would go if I couldn't watch their games. Listening to Gentlemen Jim would work for a year but if they didn't come right back up...
If Dempsey does leave, we can always just follow because Emerson Hyndman is in the Academy (Schellas Hyndman's grandson).

Nice one, Alfie.
I'll be disappointed to see him move on, but I realize that it's a business. I'll be on the Whites band wagon thru it all - good and bad.
I'll be off to search for a proper club to support, a club that demonstrates real ambition...

Not going anywhere.
I'll admit I had a soft spot for Liverpool when they almost chased down ManU a couple of seasons back, but no way I could follow Demps there now - certainly not while Suarez is still smelling up the place.

Fulham til I die... As I have been over on numerous occasions, and met hundreds of supporters on and off these messageboards, i wouldn't trade you lot in :scarf: its not about Clint, its about what fulham represents, and how they represent me. Proud to be fulham and I will go with the black and white to the end. I love the reaction from her majesty's custom officials... What did you say, you've flown across the pond to go to craven cottage on a Tuesday night to see them play Blackburn and youre on the first flight out tomorrow morning??? Fair play sir..... Lol their look of shock is worth all the tea in China.
If we don't win the league ill be rooting for the Scouse to do it. I've always liked them, and will make the trip to Anfield when we play them or if I'm over and we play on seperate days.
Going no where. I've been here since before McBride but his time cemented me in. I want Clint to stay but I'll damn sure boo him if he scores against us.

If I stuck around after Eddie Johnson's departure, nothing could shake me from Fulham :015:
I know there a lot of us in North Carolina we should get together sometime
I'm in Raleigh and would be interested in a meet up!
A majority of the Americans, at least on this board i can see staying. Seen bits since Coleman starting a deep-rooted passion. The fact that there has been an american or few in the squad has been a non factor. I would agree with bmasar, it was quite hard to take the E Johnson departure.

Not gong anywhere. In fact, the wife and I are traveling to London for Christmas/New Years and already have hospitality tickets (McBride's) for the 29 December game against Swansea. First game. I wanted to sit in H5 or 6, but had to keep the better half happy as well. So, it'll be a little more tame, but I can say, "I've been there"! :wine:

It's a great feeling sir, hope you see us get a W... I went to 7 matches before I saw us beat Bolton away a few years back 3-1... Might have been the best 90 minutes of sport watching in my life.

Not only that, he was brought up in Peabody as well.
Got to hand it too you lot from over the pond, I have found this thread quite moving and it has raised my spirits. Plus, who knows, Clint might stay and score against Liverpool.
Yes i hope you all stay
I became a fan visiting family (americans) working in London at the time. Chose to see a Fulham game because they had several American's on the team in Winter 2007. West Ham had Jonathan Spector at the time as well. I have been following ever since. Glad I made the right choice!
That being said I will still follow, but I have never experienced the team without one of my countrymen. I love the way the team play and do business so I will definitely still be here if/when Clint is gone. I would however welcome someone Fulham could use like Jozy Altidore, Eric Lichaj, Stuart Holden, or another American skilled enough and at a position of need.

You know, it's hard to be a soccer (eh, football) fan in the States. I mean, which club do you choose to support? You have to support someone or else it's not nearly as fun.
It's easy to support one of the Big 4 (though that's more like Big 5 now, or at least those 4 are quite different than before!). But when I saw McBride go to Fulham, then become their captain, I saw something different in the club. It was like a real, legit Euro football team finally saw something in an American player that represented much about who we are as a people. McBride was a goddamn warrior. He wouldn't take anything from anybody. And Fulham was the type of club that embodied that attitude. The cute little club that nobody took too seriously until they were competing in the Prem and here to stay.
Then Clint showed up. Not everyone scores that goal against Liverpool under that kind of pressure. In fact, few do. Then he got better. He became the focus of the team, a team dependent on a number of good but not great players who earned their keep alone, but played even better as a group. Together. I was taken by this, especially in a league dominated by teams of overpaid "superstars" who were mainly out for number one.
I've found my team. And if Clint leaves, and the squad is filled only by Maldovian teenagers, it will still be my team. Fulham embodies the best of what I enjoy about my homeland, and even though I will cheer Clint wherever he goes, I will by screaming COYW for however many years I have left on this world.
The Yanks on the squad helped me to catch the Fulham bug, but once I experienced the magic of the Cottage and then an away win I knew I had the disease for life.

btw, I traced my family tree back recently, and found we have been 'peabodies' (sp) since late 19th Century. I won't be going anywhere. I love Fulham and will always love Fulham. To borrow an American phrase: we cheer for laundry, not for players.
I've only really followed Fulham for a season, and Dempsey was obviously part (though not all) of the reason I decided on Fulham. But no, I won't be going anywhere. I've got FFC coasters on my coffee table, for heaven's sake.
(This is my first post. I suppose I should go hit the exile introduction thread later on.)
My guess is that only those who are sure they will stay are posting here. I'm not sure I'll stay if Clint goes, primarily because I'm not sure I'll like the way the team plays football. I'm not persuaded FFC is stronger at striker today than it was with AJ and Pog, so I wonder where the goals would come from without Dempsey.
Dembele is top-notch, but he doesn't score much. Ruiz??? Sure, Hugo has scored BPL goals, but he was MIA during Wigan's late run to safety last season.
Like others, I came to follow FFC thanks to McBride, stuck it out through the relegation struggle to enjoy the march through Europe, and delighted at Dempsey's emergence as a top player. Without that kind of warrior, would FFC struggle to score and slip toward the bottom third of the table? It would be hard to stay engaged with a team like that.

My fellow fans. Some of you are indeed American. Some of you shoot each other while we Brits drink lots of tea and are jolly good losers.
Stereotypes are created to make us all happy with our 'gang' and feel a part of something bigger than ourselves. But we are all Fulham fans. If some American fans decide to leave if we struggle or if their fellow Americans decide not to play for us anymore. Then good luck and thanks for your company. Hope you keep in touch because a place is always here as a Fulham fan even a lapsed one. Every club and their fans think they are unique. At Fulham we don't think we are unique we know we are.
An older fan like me is still thrilled that Fulham can attract fans from around the World. There was a time I had to apologise for being a Fulham fan thirty miles away from the club because few people had heard of us other than through comedy shows. So for those that stay, you make up part of what makes us unique. For those that go, thanks for the chat and the support.
We are proud to have known you. At least if you go there will be less fans to disagree with me ALL THE BLOODY TIME.

He has a point though, doesn't he?
It must be hard following a team from abroad - you're restricted to television broadcasts, radio and club output. You're not going to get that if the club isn't in or around the topflight.
As a Ligue 1 follower, I doubt anyone would be too worried about me 'glory hunting' or anything like that if I chose to follow PSG over Red Star, OM over Aubagne FC. All I'd have if I followed the latter teams would be the match reports and the scores. What fun is that?
Equally, as a foreigner you're less likely to have a personal connection to a particular town or team. Why not pick the team who's football you like the most, is going to win stuff and be exciting to follow?

Fair enough for being honest, but why not just cut out the middle man and support a top team that wins a lot and plays exciting football?
sigh; I guess it might have been better to have this thread on the exiles page. I think it's safer to have an opinion of your own over there.
He has a point though, doesn't he?

Well that rules Fulham out then
Well, that stirred things up a bit!
The thing is, I became a Fulham fan thanks to a Sept 2007 visit to the Cottage (we drew 3-3 with the old Man City). It was McBride's team (even though he was injured at the time) and it just felt right, compared to watching Chelsea and Blackburn draw at Stamford Bridge - no emotional connection there, to the place or the players or certainly not the owner.
I'm not likely to get another visit at today's prices so I am left with TV coverage and the Internet. If Clint stays, I feel confident the team will compete with spirit even against teams with much larger payrolls. With Murphy already gone, if Clint leaves I wonder about the spirit as well as the scoring.
I lack confidence in Jol's stewardship and I don't see another warrior who could step up in the McBride/Dempsey fashion. You don't mind if your team gets outspent, but if they get outfought and give a poor account of themselves....

At least if you go there will be less fans to disagree with me ALL THE BLOODY TIME.
..and the beacon of light shines forth. :54:

But surely that's a different question. Considering you can watch all Premier League games on television or online, then what you mention in your first paragraph wouldn't be important. That's more of a reflection of 'would you stick around if we were relegated'. I've rarely seen games be shown online from the Championship and below, with the odd exception of Sheff Wed games and UK televised ones.

There's usually 2 Championship matches shown each weekend on FS+. I enjoy the football even more than on the Prem sometimes -- primarily because there's usually only one annoucer.
Don, would you recommend FS+ then. maybe I will get it.

I do. If you have DVR, you'll be able to record/watch pretty much everything that happens on a weekend. FSC, FS+ and ESPN have every match. Also, occasionally the 'big' Fox shows matches. You won't miss Fulham at all -- although most of them are tape delayed.
