Could someone explain this rule to me in English? Went the the Premier League site and they give a poor explanation and then tell you to go look at your squads page. Granted it list some players as HG, and not others. For example on QPR's page Green isn't listed as homegrown, but he's English isn't he?
Just went to another site and it must have been written by a lawyer (no offense to lawyers) or was translated from Sanskri into English. Was about as clear as mud.
The home grown rule mean that each club has to pick a squad of 25 players, of which 8 must be homegrown.
A home grown player must be one that has been affiliated with the English or Welsh FA for at least 3 seasons or 36 months before their 21st birthday. The player can be of any nationality- its not just English players.
It's geared towards developing the future of the England team by giving U21's more chances to play. The emphasis is on age not nationality though, hence Rob Green would not be classified as home grown but Jack Buttland would be.
