Title: January Signings? Newcastle Raid?

Could we take advantage with the money we got from Dembele and Dempsey?

All (Ba, Cissé, Tioté and Ben Arfa) are out of our league so - NO.

Apart from that - what a load of tosh that article is. Too many if's and but's and maybe's if you ask me...

But they play for a club that will have a lending facility with a Bank. To go about it's normal day to day business and interest will be part of that agreement. My understanding is they don't get involved with interest on a personal level. I'm sure someone on here will have a better understanding and post you a better answer.

BERBATOV? OUT OF OUR LEAGUE TOO?

No, obviously not. He's 31, he knows Martin Jol, he's got no pressure to "play at the highest level" or to prove himself at the very best club anymore. But the NUFC players, yes, they are out of our league.

Berbatov is a very separate case.

Agree w/ Mr Fulham - that article is just a wee bit too speculative for me.

There has been a lot of babble in various places that Liverpool want to make a run at Demba Ba in January, though.

This whole media debacle over Wonga is ridiculous. Newcastle won't lose any players over it.

The only Wonga any player will ever be intertesed in is the Wonga in his pocket

Sounds like the usual non story the Mail likes to serve up.  Newcastle and its players will find an accommodation if it is even necessary.

Usual ill-informed, hypocritical and illogical garbage. So about par for the course for the Daily Mail.

I would submit that Wonga is no more or less an egregious organisation nor a lesser or greater threat to the well-being of the under-privelaged than Newcastle FC's existing sponsor...or, indeed, than an organisation that encourages speculation in currency fluctuations...

That this country's successive governments have tolerated the likes of Wonga is a disgrace but they are a totally legal organisation.

Having said that I don't think I could continue my support for FFC if we had a sponsor like them.

I'd like to see a maximum interest rate of, say, 25% with strong criminal sanctions attached for breaches.

You can imagine the conversation in the Mail office.  "Ain't that Woga lot who are sponsoring Newcastle loan sharks and ain't they got a lot of Muslim players?  Write a story on it."  "Shall I speak to the Club and the players"  "No just find some professor who can say something on the subject and see if we have written anything similar before to pad it out"

The worst case scenario for Newcastle, is that a few of their players play in un-sponsored shirts, which I don't think would be the biggest issue in the world.

I agree with Mr Gilroy.

These companies make a living off those who can least afford it.

Although I don't agree with their sponsorship, I don't believe its any different to seeing all their constant advertisements on TV (at least in Edinburgh)

With regards to the muslim aspect and their players, if they "believe that under Sharia law, Muslims must not benefit from either lending money or receiving money from another person - meaning that interest is prohibited", why was it not an issue when the shirt sponsors were Virgin money? Yes, it is to a totally more extreme extent to which Wonga charge interest, but Sharia law is still the same

Bit like gambling companies. And those that sell alcohol.

Alan Pardew has told Newcastle United's players to forget about the club's new deal with Wonga.com. He's told them to just get on the pitch and give 4107%...

I used to manage somebody at the Co-op who was a Jevohah's witness, he worked on the deli and wouldn't serve certain products. We used to work round the issue by getting someone else to deal with the black pudding, but I suppose you can't work round a footballer mnot wanting to wear the club shirt by getting somebody else to do it.

Lol

As for your comments Berserker, I think Newcastle could still get around it, just as Sevilla did within the article, with Freddie Kanoute refusing to have the betting company 888 on his shirt, he just wore a shirt without the sponsorship on it. Simples
