Title: Team for Sunday
Post by: Ordar on November 14, 2012, 02:16:40 PM
Baring any injuries, any opinions on a different team selection to the below?

I think Baird is suspended and Diarra might still be injured unfortunately.

will be a tougher game than arsenal in the sense that no one expected us to really get anything from the game. We struggled against villa when everyone expected us to walk over them.

I think Jol will go for a safe bet i think

              schwarzer

reither   hughe   hangeland  rise

       sidwell            diarra/karagounis

duff               ruiz             dejagah

                    berbs

Thought Sidwell had his best game for a long time on saturday......

Have seen nothing to suggest that Jol will play Duff on the left, he lacks pace and loses the goalscoring threat of being able to cut inside on his other foot. Oh, and Baird's suspended isn't he. Expect Sidwell and Diarra in midfield with Kaka on the left.

Would rather see Senderos start ahead of one of the H's, not sure which as neither have been playing well recently.

Fitness allowing I think the only current doubts are whether Duff or Dejegah play wide right and it's between Kaka and Richardson on the left.

I think Jol will go for Duff and Kaka.

Diarra comes in if fit - if not it really can only be Karagoulis. Time to see if he can hack it still.

I do though have a sneaking suspicion that Senderos could get the nod over Hughes.

Schwarzer

Riethe Senderos  Hangeland Riise

Diarra Sidwell

Duff Ruiz  Berbatov Kaka

Richardson will be out and Baird is suspended so I would go

Schwarzer

Riether Hughes Hangeland Riise

Dejagah Sidwell Diarra Kacaniklic

Ruiz

Berbatov

Subs - Stockdale , Senderos , Kelly , Karagounis , Kasami , Rodallega , Petric

Will not be surprised to see Rodallega start left midfield

I had totally forgotten about Bairds suspension. I was going on the basis that Diarra was going to be available as it didnt seem like a long term injury.

Askan will destroy whoever Sunderland play at LB (are they playing John O'Shea there?), so he's got to start for me. We need pace down the flanks if Ruiz + Berba are starting.

I agree about Senderos replacing Hughes, but I dont think Jol will do it. (even though I would.) Senderos is great at attacking the ball in the air and has good distribution. No brainer for me

Maybe we should try and convert Duff to a CM like Utd did with Giggs? Thoughts?

Rodallega on the left is a good shout, I think it all depends who sunderland start on the right. If it's someone half decent with pace I doubt Jol will want a repeat of the Everton game with Kaka giving Riise little or no support defensively

I think Danny Rose is the Sunderland LB at the moment

I think Duff will start not Dejagah. I do not think hugo on the left is a good idea at all, Kaka is the man for the job.

How did Kaca get on with his covering on Saturday against Arsenal?

If he gets 90 mins tonight for Sweden do you think that will make a difference to his selection for Sunday?

Dejagah is playing today in Iran, might be a close shave fitness wise, wouldn't be surprised to see Duff get the nod.

I think with Ruiz & Berbatov upfront It's key to have genuine pace down the wings to peg teams back allowing space for Ruiz to get on the ball and link with Berbatov so Jol should go with Dejagah & Kacaniklic

He was up against Walcott for the majority of it who didn't do any covering himself so a lot of our attacking play was coming down Kaca's side so in truth he didn't actually have to do a great deal of covering. But he did get back to help Riise out when needed.

If he plays 90 mins tonight that may have some bearing on his selection although as we are playing on Sunday he has an extra day to recover.

Shows how strong our squad is when Petric is not in anyone's starting 11s as he is a quality player

So 2 decisions for a fans choice

Duff or Dejegah
Hughes or Senderos

I am 50 / 50 on both .
Jol will see them in training - in Jol we trust

Not a bad shout could happen, although I hope Diarra is fit and maybe Kasami on the bench for Kelly

I would prefer to see Senderos start getting games as well, plus Stockdale - but that's another story.

Diarra, Baird & Richardson missing I would like to see Jol go with

Schwarzer

Riether Hughes Hangeland Riise

Dejagah Sidwell Kasami Kacaniklic

Ruiz

Berbatov

Although I expect Duff & Karagounis to get the nod over Kasami & Dejagah

This game is ideal for Senderos to return.  I personally would have had him in last week, but he should definitely start this.

We should also start with Dejagah and Riether combining on the right.

not a bad team sunderland have there, hopefully our attackers are too clever and classy for their defenders.

.........................but I would drop Riisa  put Duff in there instead because he has a better understanding with Hangeland

Things to take into consideration are:-
1. Baired suspended.
2. Diarra Injured
3.Tavares has a knock
4. Sunderland don't leak goals
5. Our keewper and back four pick themselves.
6. our tactical subs good just turn the game for us

How about:-

           Sendoros  Sidwell
Duff             Ruiz              Kaka
                Berbatov
Subs  Dejagah for Duff
          The Ancient Greek for Sendoros
          Rodallega for Kaka

Senderos starting when he hasn't yet seen a minute of action this season? And as a CM no less? Surely you jest.

Well he has to make a start some time and it is less risky to make his start at the begining of a match in midfield than comming on to replace an injured Hughes or Hangeland in the last ten minutes of critical game with the score at 1-1.

jol said it, either drop bryan into midfield and stick petric up top with berbs. Or bring Karagounis into CM with sidders.

Only other decision is dejagah or duff on the right.

so we will either see kara or petric come in. with kaca on the left team stays the same

I reckon he'll drop Ruiz back. He tends to drop back into mf anyway

Doesn't matter who plays, the squad is exceptionally strong. If Fletcher is out for them, I don't see where the goals are coming from

I really don't want Ruiz in a  CM position (as one of 2) would rather go with Karagounis. I might even gamble on Kasami as a sub to replace the Greek after an hour.
Title: Re: Team for Sunday

Yeah I think maybe Karagounis starting next to Sidwell with Kasami on for fresh kegs on the hour

I would rather Karagounis with Sidwell in the middle however I think Jol desperate to give Petric a game and playing Ruiz in CM allows him to do this. Anyway i trust Jol to make right call.

Ruiz in centre mid is a worry he is not great defensively but then again I thought the same about Dembele moving there, Jol knows best

With some many options, do you realize that the only certain players for Sunday are:

               Schwarzer

Riether   Hughes   Hangeland  Riise

         Sidwell             ?

?                   ?                   ?

                    Berbatov

I am almost sure Jol will surprise us, as well as Sunderland. :)
This is one of most interesting things for me this weekend - how will we start? Anyway, in Jol I trust!

If Jol is to keep the winning formula, then 4-2-3-1. Simply replace Baird with Karagounis
At home though, 4-4-2 is probably better, giving the extra width and an extra striker up front. Get a feeling, Petric will get picked ahead. Kind of due a start, keep him happy and all. Kara can wait. Plus let's face it. Petric is a cracking player. Hope he scores and Berba and Brian work their magic.

I think he will start Ruiz centre midfield with Petric & Berba upfront, I actually think he should keep it the same and bring Karagounis in for Baird, we are playing well and attacking well so keep it the same, mind you Petric hardly a bad player to come in
