Title: Wrong call by Jol
Post by: JackyFulham90 on November 18, 2012, 10:05:40 PM
Top class manager but I think when Kacaniklic got injured we should have switched Duffers to the left and brought on Dejagah, Rodallega is good upfront but offers nothing on left midfield

I keep seeing this Duff on the left side posted by people.yes its his natural side but he does not like it now.
Since he joined us he has played on the right for most of his games. When he has played on the left he is ineffective as he can't take players on and whip those crosses in. He much prefers to cut inside and look for the overlapping RB.

Duff is very very slow now, was constantly outpaced by Danny Rose, especially first half. I had no problem with Rod coming on, with Ruiz effectively being moved back to CM it gave us an option to move people around if neccessary.

I was more disappointed that Duff had started ahead of Dejegah than Rod coming on. We need pace out wide when Ruiz and Berba are up front. Duff is fine when Rod is playing up front.

Rodders is a good central striker and can put a shift on playing off Berbatov or Petric. But he has never been a godd wide player. So with the injury to Richardson would have been nice to have Frei back from loan. Still the way our luck was going today I am not sure anything would have gone right.

I honestly can't see what he brings at all... Hope some of Petrics / Berbas confidence rubs off on him

Did Dejagah play for Iran in the week?  Can only assume he got back late or picked up a knock, was surprised he didn't start and shocked when he didn't come on for kaca

Having Rodallega on the pitch wasn't a bad idea. He can play up top if change of formation was needed on the fly. Also he runs for two.
Dejegah was the alternative, yes. But with 10, Hugo just gave that extra option. It prove to be the wrong one and maybe not even the wrong one, but simply didnt pay off

He did bring the well weighted ball through to Petric which led to his chance.

I would have kept the Greek on and sacrificed either Hugo (yes I know he had only come on)  pushing Ruiz to left midfield with Berba up top.

The gun-ho attack attack attack is fine but with 10-men and Senderos not having kicked a ball this season a more robust, rigid, defensive formation might have been tactically better.  (Note.  I am not having a go at Senderos as I was for him starting in place of Hughes anyway)

Of course if we had taken some of our chances we could have won or drawn anyway irrespective of the 3 we conceded

But I think the plan was for Karagounis to come off at some stage as he could not last 90mins. Hence he had to come off. I do agree it was between Dave and the greek to come off.

this.

the sub was entirely about Karagounis not being able to last the full 90. He was obviously always going to come off at some point, i would imagine that he was always going to come off and berba or ruiz was always going to drop into cm.

If that was the plan I still would have kept him on and taken Hugo off.  Karagounis had started well, would have kept possession better than Hugo and added some protection to the back-line

When it was time for him to come off Petric would have come on as the no.9 with Berba dropping deeper.

Of course all water under the bridge now.  Just like the 2 points at Reading, 2 at Southampton and 3 yesterday.

And played a part in the goal playing a slightly dodgy?? 1-2 with Duff
And winning a flick on for Petric to go through 1 on 1 as soon as he come on!!

There are always people who want to blame somebody fore something and they can do on any MB. I moan more than most but have to say that I felt nothing but pride at the way Jol and the team decided to still have a go despite all the problems Sunday. We are all managers and players in our heads.

Jol had to give rodellga a chance sooner or later, it's not what i would have done but the man has to be given an opportunity. And we continued to be the better team so Jol didn't do much worong there either. Unfortunately Rodeellga continues to be uninspiring. I saw him a few times for wigan and generally thought he looked good but his first touch seems poor and he seems to be trying to hard at the moment. For me he would improve if he relaxed a bit more and concentrating on being a better team player

I am not quite sure why you all are saying he made the worng decision.  Fulham had more chances than Sunderland, also had more shots on target.  We very well could have had a different game if Riise's ball had found the net, but it is what it is.  I am proud of the way they all played, and I did not see anyone give up.  Even when Sunderland were up by two, I felt that we had a number of good chances.  Well 2 if not 3 solid chances to score.

If you ask me it was just a bad day, one of those, if it can go wrong it will!

So, now where are we?  Kaca and Ruiz are out for up to 3 weeks, Hangeland is banned for the same....The bad luck of this game will run on, but how everyone was playing Sunday I feel they can push through it!

Rodallega reminds me of the strikers we usually get who cannot hit the side of a barn door, but he has played on the wing before.  I do not think Jol intended him to play on the wing we just went to 4 - 2 -3 with our ten players.   It was an all out attacking policy that would have worked if our finishing was up to the usual standards this season.
