So so proud of a the players and all the academy staff, those who are out in Dallas and those who are in England, I do bore people sometimes when I keep saying we have the best people in our academy and slowly the fruits of their hard work is shining through, so glad so many stayed up to watch, I've seen these boys play a lot so it's not unexpected from me, but I'm still buzzing though

Oh yes CHAMPIONEES CHAMPIONEES OLE OLE OLE

Dallas Cup Champions
Monday 1 April 2013 02:00

Fulham Under-19s were crowned Dr Pepper Dallas Cup champions on Sunday following an impressive 5-1 defeat of Kashiwa Reysol.

The Whites opened the tournament in the famous Cotton Bowl Stadium seven days ago, and closed the event in the same arena in style.

Coritiba, LA Galaxy, Eintracht Frankfurt and Fluminense had all been undone by Fulham's attacking, free-flowing football and whilst their Japanese opponents had also caught the eye en route to the Final, they found Steve Wigley's charges a handful from the off.

Muamer Tankovic set his side on the way inside 10 minutes, smashing the ball home following Sean Kavanagh's delightful cross from the left. Cauley Woodrow, Ryan Williams and Lasse Vigen Christensen also played their part in the build up.

Fulham had the perfect chance to double their lead on 20 minutes after Woodrow was felled in the box. Unfortunately, though, the striker picked himself up only to see the Reysol goalkeeper make a great save from the spot.

Emerson Hyndman and Christensen tried their luck from distance, before the latter went even closer when moving the opposing goalkeeper into a superb sprawling stop on 30 minutes.

Reysol wrestled control away from Fulham as the first-half drew to a close, with the Japanese side impressing with their clever movement and ambitious passing. Marek Rodak had to be alert to two strikes from the edge of the box and another that edged on to the post following a deep free-kick from the left.

The Whites regrouped at the break, and their intent was rewarded when Woodrow swept the ball home from close range on 48 minutes. Fifteen minutes later, Woodrow made it 3-0 when meeting Kavanagh's sublime pass and finishing smartly.

However, Reysol responded positively to remind Fulham of their threat, breaking through and making it 3-1 moments later.

Wigley's team didn't waver, though, and showed their undoubted spirit by pushing forward once more. As a result, three soon became four when substitute Jordan Evans (pictured) stepped off the bench to slot in following Josh Passley's surging run and cross from the right on 78 minutes.

Fellow substitute George Williams got in on the act too, finishing coolly to make it 5-1 on 84 minutes and capping a fabulous presentation of football.

As the game edged to a close, Reysol looked totally shell-shocked, with little answer to the onslaught that had been waged against their goal. Victory and the subsequent trophy were wholly deserved, as captain Jack Grimmer led his side to this prestigious accolade.

Fulham's youngsters have won back-to-back domestic honours, now they had proved they were a force to be reckoned with against the best from overseas – becoming the fourth English club to be crowned Dallas Cup champions following West Ham United (1992), Nottingham Forest (2002) and Liverpool (2008).

Fulham U19s: Rodak (Oberschmidt 86); Passley, Grimmer, Arthurworrey, Kavanagh; Christensen (Banya 86), Sambou (Minkwitz 75), Hyndman; Tankovic (Evans 75), Woodrow (Islamovic 80), R Williams (G Williams 70)

What a boost for Easter Monday .......... Massive congratulations to all those involved in this terrific win for the club.

Watched all of the semi-final and was mightily impressed with some of our lads, do hope this progression continues and we see 2/3 of them in the first team in the future.

OK a great performance by an academy team and congratulations are due to all concerned.

If this is an under 19 side then it would seem likely that there are some 18year olds in the team. Now if they are really good we should be seeing one or two of them in the premiership quite soon. Don't say 18/19 is too young for the premiership, in the old days our best home grown players established themselves at that age, why should these players not do the same.

agree with the sentiment of the post. Apart from odd one or two players we never get 18-20 years olds playing on a regular basis. A lot of our past promising youngsters reach 22 with 1 lge apperance.

Believe lt's a decision on our part. The logistics involved are a nightmare to juggle with domestic competitions not to mention we have an extremely small squad even after bringing in quite a few in the summer.

NextGen would, if we were to take part, partners than likely put an end to us competing in this cup as well as others like the recent 5 a side tournament

I watched the game last night and whilst there is a lot of talent in that squad and team, I wouldn't have any one of them anywhere near the first team yet.

A lot of them (hopefully) will have long and prosperous careers and they were excellent last night, but in no way ready for the big league.

Didn't Jol comment that maybe 2 or 3 could join the first team squad for next season?  Tankovic looked to be one of the players nearest to being ready.  The others maybe not quite yet, though there is potential if they continue to develop.

Yes. We need a bit of perspective here before we get too carried away. This has been a fabulous achievement and we have shown ourselves to have, not only one of the best youth set-ups in the country, but one of the best in football. Each player we have seen this week would seem to have something to offer and we are right to have an optimistic outlook. This, however, has been a team effort, one owing as much to organisation and mature attitude as to individual brilliance. It would be impossible to say that any particular individual has been responsible for our success. And that is probably a very good thing. What it does mean, however, is that no one individual is crying out for immediate inclusion in the senior team, although, doubtless, several will form part of the senior squad next season.

As has been said before, the development of young talent is an unpredictable business. The only thing we can be reasonably certain of is that not all these lads will make it. Already the pecking order is showing signs of changing; some of the bright hopes of last year are already fading wheras, for instance, Sambou, who was not much mentioned previously, has now become a front runner. If we can find three PL regulars from this group we will have done very well. Any more would be a bonus.

The ages of yesterday's starting line up were: Rodak(16), Passley(18), Arthurworrey(18), Grimmer(19), Kavanagh(19), Christensen(18), Sambou(17), Williams(19), Woodrow(18), Tankovic(18), Hyndman(16) so most of them could, theoretically play again next year. Only the seriously precocious establish themselves in the PL at that sort of age and it is even more difficult for young defenders. Chris Smalling has now established himself as an international class defender. He is now 23, even two years ago there was still plenty of debate as to how far he might go.

We should not be afraid of giving youth a chance, if circumstances require but to rush them would only harm the players and the team.

:plus one:
I would like to see Grimmer & Arthurworry kept together as I can see them both making the big step up.
Tankovic looks as if he could make it. Woodrow might but I don´t think he has any great pace. Clinical finisher though. Ryan Williams gets better every time I see him. Kavanagh looks a good fullback. The others I have not seen enough of to make a judgement.
I hope we can keep this group together for another season & perhaps blood a few in selected games.

Grimmer massively needs a loan move, hopefully Aberdeen will have him for a season. Arthurworrey is still pretty much a season behind everyone after his knee troubles so he's got a long way to come still, at the moment he's got one too many mistakes in him.

Williams turns up for the big games without fail, outside of that it's few and far between for the youth wingers. Kavanagh is solid and needs a loan again.

Woodrow has never ever been speedy, but if you look at him last season compared to this, he's bulked up massively and is pretty much a Zamora type bully nowadays (not to pigeonhole him into that role as he's got enough about him technically to thrive).

There's enough about this team for some to make it professionally (not fussed if it's with Fulham as long as they get there) but it doesn't take much to change, just look at Minkwitz who was top dog for years and now walks in Lasses` shadow. Or Sambou, who was pretty roundly booed by a lot of idiots in the fa youth cup last year vs Burnley and was one of the players of the tournament

Didn't manage to see many minutes of it but really happy for them.

The minutes I did see though, I was really impressed.

Hoping to see a few of them on the bench in near future.
