We have had a reasonable window and have a stronger squad.
It just needs managing properly now...
I think before the first 4 games I've watched, i'd have said 10th with potentially exceeding expectations with an 8th finish if form was in overdrive. Now I think we will comfortably finish 13th-16th. HOWEVER if things change we could be in for a good season. Tactics and team gelling and we aren't far off having a very decent solid side.
I guess it depends on how many other teams are below us, doesn't it? Like Burt, my glass is always half-full, so I tend to look optimistically at things, with a touch of realism to buffer any shocks.
Well, if we're extrapolating what we've seen so far through to the end of the season, I'd say we're scraping to stay up.
Knowing that it's going to take time for these players to gel together on the field, I'd say we wind up bottom half but still more worried by the end of the season than we should be.

Fact: we barely avoided relegation (and on a downward trend of play) and the teams around us (other than Newcastle) all strengthened while we refused to open the cheque book to any meaningful degree and as a consequence landed players on the wrong side of 30 years and failed to address the critical LB and creative MF shortcomings. Opinion: Brede is a true servant to the Club and will be regarded as a Club legend, but he's clearly been unable to show the leadership / gravitas necessary to whip Berbatov into adhering to even the slightest hint of team play, and Jol continues to make the same mistakes re team selection and match tactics that have resulted in FFC playing as a disfunctional assemblage of talented players rather than as a productive and cohesive team. Mark my words, if this depressing run of form doesn't change soon, we'll be in the Championship by late-March/early-April.

So where are we? - We are in a World of make believe where cheerleaders come and wave and bounce and Berbatov doesn't. We are in a World where football is played with no intent to score. We are in a World where we spend time picking the best team only to realise that it doesn't matter because our 11 players are playing in their own half. We live in a World where a lucky win is greeted with self abuse and drugs and alcohol and defeat as ulucky. We are in a World where we deserved a draw because we held out until 87 minutes.
So where are we? We are in a World of pain and horror. Where entertainment and skill means hoping the other team will miss. We are waiting for something positive to happen on the field during a game. We are waiting to stop playing scared.

The problem at the moment is that we cannot see how a team is going to be moulded from all of the players we have.
The only names certain to be on the next team sheet are Reither, Hangeland and Scott- Parker, all kinds of combinations can be made up from remaining players. It would seem as if the next couple of months could be taken up experimenting with players and systems.
Well the next game is gonna point the way!
Any more terrible negative, defensive performances & I think we we know the outcome.
Sort out our passing game, stop playing in our own half, sub players that don't perform (I think you know who I'm talking about!)
Be positive with our new signings.
