Title: So... you're Martin
Post by: horse1031 on October 03, 2013, 05:37:02 PM
Hypothetical of course :008:

Most of the fanbase is against you.  You know that you need a response this weekend!  You have to win this weekend to keep your job going forward.  One of your best players is on the sidelines and you are coming off of one of the worst performances of the season (which is saying a lot).  What do you do?  Do you go for it this weekend with an attacking formation or do you try to play for 1-0?

I would do this!

                  Stockers

Reither       Senderos        Hangeland       Richardson

Dejegah        Kara             Sidders          Duff

                 Bent            Kasami

Subs:  Ruiz, Berba, Taarabt, Amorebieta, Kaca, Etheridge

I would sit back a little bit, keep the ball and hit them on the break.  If we get up 1-0, push hard for the second and see if we can put them to bed...I think we need our wingers to defend and pick their chances to go forward.  We need high energy and closing them down so the midfielders have no time on the ball.

Three luxury players on the bench!  Time for Boateng to get in there.

Me I go for

Stockers
Reither
Hangers
Amoriebieta
Richardson
Sidwell
Kasami
Ruiz
Berba
Tarrabt
Bent

Bench
Etheridge
Zvrotic
Karagounis
Kaca
Dejagah if fit (duffers if not)
Boatang
Rodders (would prefer dembele but very unlikely)

Then take the 2-1 win, walk round the ground clapping all the fans, smile in my press conference and say it's an easy game at times

Stockdale

Riether Hangeland Amorebieta Richardson
Kara Sidwell
Ruiz Berbatov Kasami
       Bent

get Riether and Richardson attacking down the wings and really attack from the first whistle.

I think he will pick that team, but with Kasami instead of Deja, Ruiz instead of Duff, and either Senderos or Amorebieta alongside Hangeland. He will not want to lose. Why would he suddenly pick Deja, who probably wouldn't be fit enough anyway to start?

Doesn't matter. We will play negative, slow and deathly football. We'll go 1-0 down, and that will be the end of it. Don't expect any forward passes after the 80th minute.

I would ask them to play the ball forward .
That does not mean it needs to be long balls just away from our own goal !

Especially from free kicks - where
1) the ball is stationary making it easier to kick ( though some of the corners last Saturday make a mockery of that statement ).  fp.gif fp.gif fp.gif
2) the opponents are not allowed to tackle you .

Why should he leave? his opinion is as valid as the next mans, I agree with him, I cannot see any massive change Saturday as Jol does not know how to

"Passion and tempo.....don't let them settle....bury them in first 20 mins"
"Go on boys, get out there and stuff 'em"

If I were Martin I like to think I'd go to the owner and offer my resignation rather than wait for the inevitable.

But he'll stick around because "he's not a quitter" (code for "I want my pay-out"). He'll switch people around, play a couple out of position, hope for a lucky goal, and tell Berbatov he's wonderful and that we can't seriously expect to beat Stoke at home because winning games is difficult.

If I were Martin, I would probably analyze the players' form, fitness, morale and training performances. I would then analyze the likely tactics used by Stoke City based on their previous games, highlighting their strengths and weaknesses before developing a system and strategy in order to exploit those weaknesses; combining the above factors, creating a tactical plan and selecting my line up accordingly.

I am Martin, I am a great manager I only came here because my London desres needed an airing. I got rid of that moaning Zamora, the mouthy Murphy and still they are not happy.
Only me.......... ME  could have persuaded the most talented player  in Europe to come here. They  will not give me any money, so what do they expect.  ?????
I wish I was at Tottenham, I loved  Tottenham I loved them and they loved me , 6 years ago I got them to the bottom on the table too,  BUT that was not my fault either.

He will tell them to attack early and often.  He can't afford sit back at the 80th minute if the game is then tied or Fulham is down.  His job is on the line, and he knows it.  The players also know what is at stake.  The team has more talent, on paper, than Stoke has.  We'll see who's come to play in the first 15 minutes.  Get behind them, especially if Stoke gets a lucky early goal.

When people select their teams to solve our problems on topics like this and many others, I am amazed how often people select at least 3 out of 4 of berbatov, ruiz, tarrabt and bent.

IMO 2 of them is enough in a team, 3 is a luxury which could work in a confident side but is a disaster in a struggling team.

Assuming Parker and Dejagah are injured.
My team to do a job.

                Stockdale

Riether  Hangeland  Amorea   Zvrotic

                 Boatang
        Kasami            Sidwell
Ruiz                                  Kaca

                  Bent

                   Boateng Sidwell
Ruiz                       Berbatov             Taarabt

Yes you are right, typlcal Jol move, drop Kasami who has been one of our few good players  lately and bring in Taarabt who has managed two body swerves so far and so obvious he lost the ball both times, oh yes must have no 1 son playing as well  fp.gif fp.gif fp.gif

Same thing I've been saying for years, pressure high up the pitch, attack with one touch swift passing, lots of off the ball movement, lots of bodies in the box including Berba (who to be fair has been doing that more lately), lots of through balls for Bent, Ruiz actually getting in the final third regularly.

Would go for:

Riether Senderos Amorebieta Richardson
Kara Sidwell
Ruiz Berbatov Kasami
       Bent

Hangeland has been rubbish of late.

Matters not a jot to me who starts in midfield or upfront , you are only as strong as your weakest link, and like it or not our weakest link is David Stockdale !
Yes he can tip a shot from 25 yards over the bar, but all other aspects of goalkeeping duties he is f*cking useless at, his handling of the ball from crosses is the worst I've ever seen from a Fulham keeper and I've been going 43 years, he is not vocal enough to ever make it as a top flight keeper and I couldn't name one other keeper in The Premier League that fails to command his area as poorly as Stockdale does, can you ?
For me Fulham are tailor made for Stoke City and they will look to get the likes of Crouch, Jones, Huth etc in to the box as often as possible as we look like conceding every time there is a cross in to our box,
So unless Stockdale has learnt how to come a claim a ball in the last seven days and Brede has learnt how to jump its my opinion that were in for another long afternoon.

Reither  Hangeland  Amorebieta Briggs

            Boateng  Sidwell(unfortunately)

Dejagah         Ruiz        Kaca

                    Bent

The best we have at the moment I'm afraid, I'm sorry but anyone who believes Senderos or Berbatov should feature clearly doesnt watch football.

Why pick on Stockdale, there were plenty others last Saturday who made errors as well, Stockdale had a poor game  perhaps because the team captain in front of him was all over the place and there was no organisation in defence at all.

Martin here....just wanted to say don't worry, we are working very hard on the training pitch every day but we can't seem to get it right on a Saturday. It's good to see my boy Moussa playing well, although I will miss Dempsheys goals now he has gone to Sheattle. I have tried to get Moussa back in the team on a Saturday but keep being told he can't play and I have to have Shtevie Sidwell, which is unfortunate. Don't worry though, we are in the champions league places and looking good.....what?  yes.... I go to Hotspur park for training every day.....what? we train at Motspur Park do we.....?? For me tomorrow it should be:

Stockdale
Amorbrieta (left back)
Hangeland
Senderos
Riether

Kaca
Kara
Boateng
Kasami

Taarabt
Bent

Tell Berbatov to grow a pair and come back when he's sorted his attitude out

I realise that taarabt isn't 100% fit but he's the only player that has shot and attacked a team (arsenal)  all year. My instructions to him would be run at them commit players he'll have huth and nzonzi on yellows in the first 20 mins. Then sub him after fifty minutes  bring on Sidwell pack the midfield and hit them on the break

People saying Berbatov shouldn't play, surely you know if hes fit, he starts. For me, thats not the worst thing, hes clearly our most talented player and yes his attitude is terrible but hes someone who will score goals.

Bent and Berbatov up top (with Bent running in behind and Berbatov just off of him) should be what we play at home against weaker opponents.

Kasami has to start on previous form, and Ruiz will most likely start due to his goal last week.

Kara and Sidwell are the most likely pairing with Parker out and Boateng nowhere to be seen.

I really don't see why Richardson is getting all this hate as hes not been outstanding but decent at LB. Riether clearly starts at RB.

Hangeland was awful last game but hes our captain and has been at the club for a long time now and will really try for us as fans. Amorebieta looks very good so should start with him. These 2 should nullify Kenwyne Jones should he start as hes all about the physical side.

If I was Martin berbatov wouldn't be near the team but yes you are correct I'd put my house on him starting tomorrow however we need a fighter ala berbatov when he first came and not the petulant child who's turned up this year

I agree re Richardson I really like him however Amor is better and will eventually have a great partnership with brede I'm sure but on the evidence of last week's positioning between the two unless miracles have been worked on the training ground this week then this isn't the game for that.
