It can leave you a little exposed in the centre of the park unless you have an absolutely stellar DM.

We definitely do not have the team for that, in fact, it's essentially a 442 but in possession one central midfielder moves forward and one stays. Also, we do not have the strikers for that, we can not play Bent and Berbatov together, without the ball it's as if we have nine on the pitch.

Also, the 442 as the English knows it is dead. Hence why when Liverpool wanted to fit in two strikers the started playing the 3412, as it allows them to pack the midfield without losing the two up top.

We need to pack the midfield, a loose the trequartista in order to find defensive solidity.

-----------Stekelenburg
Riether Hangeland Amorebieta Richardson
---------------Boateng
-----------Parker---Kasami
Dejagah------------------------Kacaniklic
--------------Berbatov

Three in the back is worth giving a try. I mean, you can't be any poorer defensively. Play Hughes. You lost Reither already. There you have it.
Or else diamond is good, but which players fit the formation is the real question.
Two up top is tempting but your midfield sucks to play traditional wingers. So yeah, diamond, and narrow could be it

               Stekeleburg
Reither Hangeland amorebieta richardson
                   Parker
Dejagah        Kasami     Kaka

               Ruiz   Berba
Now how do we get the ball to Berba and Ruiz?

Tim Gelles said this in the comments over at CCN, but we need something like a 4-1-4-1 or 4-3-3 to try to stiffen up the midfield.  Playing the diamond would exacerbate our current problems.

This is well worth a try, have you e mailed Jol directly ? I would drop Berbatov but Jol never will so he could take to your line up.
