Meulensteen hopes to entice Morrison across London in £5m Fulham move

Fulham manager Rene Meulensteen wants to use his relationship with Ravel Morrison to tempt him across London.

Meulensteen worked with Morrison at Manchester United, and the West Ham forward is known to have enjoyed working with the Dutchman.

Morrison has 18 months to run on his existing £15,000-per-week contract, but West Ham have explored the option of extending his deal.

Connections: Morrison worked with Rene Meulensteen at Manchester United

But Meulensteen wants to take advantage of the 20-year-old's contract situation by bidding close to £5m for his services this month.

Morrison is in a position of strength knowing he can leave Upton Park on a free transfer at the end of next season, a scenario the Hammers want to avoid.

Humiliation: Morrison was part of the West Ham team thrashed 5-0 at Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup third round on Sunday

The England Under-21 star would consider a move to Craven Cottage this month.

And his willingness to leave east London leaves him in a strong position if he decides to re-negotiate his contract with West Ham.

Trotta Sticks With Bees
(http://www.fulhamfc.com/-/media/PlayerActionShots/2013-14/Marcello%20Trotta/BPI_MZE13_Stevenage_v_Brentford.ashx?w=350&h=250)

Marcello Trotta's loan spell at Brentford has been extended until the end of the season.

Having impressed on loan for the club last season, the striker joined the table-topping Bees for a second temporary stint in September.

He has since hit seven goals for the Sky Bet League One side, including three in his last four games.

The Italian forward joined the Whites in the summer of 2009 and has made two First Team appearances to date, also spending time out on loan at Wycombe Wanderers and Watford.

Crewe consider re-signing Fulham youngster Mesca

Portuguese winger scored once in six games for the League One strugglers

Rising star: Buomesca Tue Na Bangna could return to Crewe
Crewe Alexandra are considering bringing Fulham youngster Buomesca Tue Na Bangna back to Gresty Road for another loan spell.

The 20-year-old winger scored once in six games during his short stint with the League One strugglers, but returned to Craven Cottage earlier this week.

However, Crewe chief Steve Davis is weighing up whether to re-sign the Portuguese ace, along with QPR striker Tom Hitchcock.

He told Crewe's official site: "Both Mesca and Tom have returned to their clubs now, but I'm sure we speak to their clubs again concerning their availability.

"At the moment the discussions are on-going as we assess our options. Nothing has been sorted yet. I spoke to them and thanked them for their contribution and that we would keep in touch. That is how we left it and we'll have to see.

"With all signings, you have to weigh up what is best for the football club. Tom came in and scored and created goals and that is what we needed. He has done very well for us.

"On Mesca, he did well for us as well and it was great for him to score his first goal for us and seal that win over Carlisle. There was an agreement with Fulham concerning Mesca and that is something we would have to look at going forward. "

Jack Grimmer: Port Vale sign Fulham defender on loan

Port Vale have made their first signing of the January transfer window by bringing in teenage defender Jack Grimmer on a month's loan from Fulham.

The 19-year-old Scotland youth international joined Fulham two years ago for £200,000 from Aberdeen.

But, although he has played at right-back and in midfield for Fulham Under-21s, he has not made the first team.

Grimmer goes straight into the squad for Saturday's match against League One leaders Brentford at Griffin Park.

Vale boss Micky Adams, back at one of his former clubs, has also added defender Joe Davis to his squad after he returned from his loan at Luton Town.

"Jack Grimmer is a player who we have watched on numerous occasions for Fulham reserves," said Adams.

"We have a lot of experienced defenders making mistakes and we have been looking to strengthen in that area for a while."

Fulham forward wanted by Real Betis

Fulham forward Bryan Ruiz has emerged as a transfer target for La Liga strugglers Real Betis, reports Diario de Sevilla.

Betis are lying at the foot of the La Liga table and have scored only 15 league goals - the lowest figure in the Spanish top-flight.

As such, Betis boss Juan Carlos Garrido is keen to address his side's attacking issues this month and he has set his sights on Ruiz.

The 28-year-old, who has also been chased by Anderlecht, has started just one Premier League match since Rene Meulensteen replaced Martin Jol in the Craven Cottage dug-out last month.

Ruiz has reportedly already spoken about the club with his Costa Rica team-mate Joel Campbell, who was on loan at Betis from Arsenal last season.

Garrido is also close to tying up a loan deal for Atletico Madrid forward Leo Baptistao, who has been on West Ham's radar in recent months.

Rumour Mill: West Brom linked with Brede Hangeland

The latest West Brom rumour - rate the gossip below

West Brom are rumoured to be interested in a move for Fulham's Norwegian defender Brede Hangeland.

The deal for the experienced defender would be in the region of £2 million.

Our Man At The Baggies, Chris Lepkowski today played down the rumours: "West Brom have four centre halves already, three in their thirties, they haven't got a boss, and don't generally pay fees in January, so...."

Grimmer Joins Vale
(http://www.fulhamfc.com/-/media/PlayerActionShots/2013-14/Jack%20Grimmer/PA-18129211300.ashx)

Fulham defender Jack Grimmer has joined Sky Bet League One outfit Port Vale on loan until Saturday 8th February.

A natural leader, Grimmer has captained Fulham Under-21s on numerous occasions and his consistent form saw him named on the First Team bench for our FA Cup with Budweiser clash at Blackpool last season.

Vale – who are managed by former Fulham boss Micky Adams – currently occupy eighth spot in League One, just two points off the Play-Off places, and Grimmer will go straight into the squad for their clash against leaders Brentford on Saturday where he could come up against fellow Whites loanee Marcello Trotta.

Adams told Port Vale's website that he was pleased to bring the Scotsman to the club: "He's a player we've watched on numerous occasions and he's well thought of down there, in and around their First Team squad. We're delighted to have him on board.

"We have got no doubts about his ability, I think that he can only get better and we're helping him to develop his career and we hope he does well."

Are Fulham about to benefit from another Manchester United mistake?

Reports claim Fulham are keen on signing former Manchester United starlet Ravel Morrison from West Ham United.

Much has been written about David Moyes' decision to replace Sir Alex Ferguson's coaching staff with his own. But one man he reportedly tried and failed to keep was Manchester United's former first-team coach Rene Meulensteen.

SEE ALSO: £16m transfer opens the door for Fulham and Crystal Palace in striker hunt

To call the Dutchman's loss a mistake may be an exaggeration. But an interview Meulensteen gave to the Telegraph back in August suggests otherwise.

"It saddened me leaving," he said. "I had the best job in the world there.

"I felt very strongly that the picture painted to us (by the club) was not the one that came out in meetings with David Moyes.

"I said to him, 'David, with all due respect, you've done a fantastic job in the Premier League with Everton but do you realise you are going from a yacht to a cruise ship?' Ferguson, the captain, had a good crew with coaches like me."

Whatever his ultimate reason for leaving – be it Moyes' coaching style – as suggested in the press – his failure to have the same influence as he did under Ferguson, or simply the Scot's decision to bring in his own men, there is no doubt the former Everton boss would have benefited from Meulensteen's help in the midst of what is rightly or wrongly being called a crisis.

Instead, the former United man is now in charge of Fulham, and is being tipped to reunite with one-time United player Ravel Morrison.

Goal is reporting that the England under-21 international is keen to leave West Ham for Craven Cottage, and that the Cottagers have offered £5million plus add-ons – a fee considerably lower than his reported £18million release-clause.

If things had worked out differently, Morrison could still be at Old Trafford. And while his reasons for leaving have been well-documented, and his transfer to West Ham may have saved his career, as he begins to fulfil his potential United fans may question the wisdom in selling a player who could have shone at Old Trafford for the next decade.

Perhaps neither decision was a mistake. Perhaps they were simply footballing decisions or, in the case of Morrison, the best decision possible. But as Moyes and his men continue to struggle, there is little doubt that both coach and player (in his current mind-set) could have made things that little bit easier, both on the pitch and off it.

Can Fulham really pull off a coup and bring Morrison to Craven Cottage?

Real Betis Close In On Deal For Fulham Outcast Bryan Ruiz

Fulham outcast Bryan Ruiz is close to sealing a move to Spain with Real Betis after failing to impress manager Rene Meulensteen.

According to Diario de Sevilla, Betis are in talks with Fulham over the move with Ruiz's contract at Craven Cottage expiring in 2015.

The Costa Rican has played twice under Meulensteen, who took over from Martin Jol last year, while he has played just once in the last five league games.

Ruiz helped Costa Rica qualify for next year's World Cup and will need to be back among the games to make the national squad.

Betis boss Juan Carlos Garrido is desperate for some attacking impetus in his side and Ruiz has been identified as a fit.

The move is expected to be closed within the next few days, for a player with experience of both Belgian and Dutch leagues.

The 28-year-old forward spent three years with Gent in the Jupiler Pro League and a further two seasons with FC Twente in Holland.

He moved to Fulham in 2011 but only managed eight goals in 75 appearances for the Cottagers.

Meulensteen gives youth a chance over Ruiz

Fulham head coach Rene Meulensteen said Bryan Ruiz was left out of his side at Norwich City to give the club's youngsters a chance.

Ruiz did not make the bench in Fulham's 1-1 FA Cup draw at Carrow Road on Saturday – the second time in a row he was not involved in the club's matchday 18.

The Costa Rica attacker has featured just twice in Meulensteen's eight matches in charge, with his sole start coming in the club's 6-0 thumping at Hull City on December 28.

Speculation has surrounded the future of Ruiz as a result, with La Liga outfit Real Betis rumoured to be interested in acquiring his services.

On why he was left out at Norwich, Meulensteen told Get West London: "We looked at it and if you bring young players in, you've got to weigh things up.

"In this case we thought it was better to give other young players an opportunity on the bench."

Ruiz has made 75 appearances

Fulham transfer round-up: Ravel Morrison and Ryan Bertrand to arrive?

West Ham and Chelsea youngsters could cross the capital to join Rene Meulensteen, plus Danish striker could sign to replace Dimitar Berbatov.

Ravel Morrison has told West Ham United he would like to join Fulham, according to Goal.

The England under-21 star is said to be valued by the Cottagers at around £5million plus add-ons.

Morrison, who has been tipped by some to get a late call-up to Roy Hodgson's England squad for the World Cup, started the season in great form but has missed the last three league games due to a groin problem.

The talented 20-year-old enjoyed a good relationship with Fulham boss Rene Meulensteen when both were at Manchester United, and the Dutchman is keen to add some youth to his midfield to complement veterans such as Scott Parker, Giorgos Karagounis and Steve Sidwell.

Fulham are likely to offer Morrison an increase on his current £15,000 a week wages as well as the opportunity to remain in London.

Sam Allardyce is keen to bolster his squad in other areas, namely defence and attack, meaning the funds secured from selling the midfielder would be very much welcome as the Hammers look to escape the relegation zone.

Fulham are also looking to strengthen their defence by signing left-back Ryan Bertrand from Chelsea, according to the Guardian.

The 24-year-old, who has two England caps, is behind both Cesar Azpilicueta and Ashley Cole in the pecking order under Jose Mourinho and has only made one Premier League appearance this season, in the 4-1 home win over Cardiff in October.

John Arne Riise, the Cottagers' first choice left-back, is now 33 and a younger alternative would be appreciated.

Bertrand has regularly been linked with Liverpool in recent transfer windows and it would be a major coup if Meulensteen could secure his signature.

Brondby's giant centre-forward Simon Makienok is also a target for the West London club, according to the Guardian.

The striker would cost £3.3million and could be seen as a replacement for Dimitar Berbatov, who continues to be linked with a move to Arsenal. The 23-year-old has six caps for Denmark.

The club have confirmed that their Italian youngster Marcello Trotta has extended his loan deal at Brentford for the rest of the season.

The 21-year-old has been at the League One leaders since September and also spent much of last season with the Bees. Chelsea's George Saville will also stay with Brentford on loan.

Now Fulham target transfer of Manchester City's Joleon Lescott on loan to help relegation fight

England defender who's also been linked with West Ham as well as Spurs, Aston Villa and Turkey's Besiktas is wanted to help the Cottagers stay up

Take a number: The list of clubs looking at City's Lescott has grown again
PA

Fulham boss Rene Meulensteen has joined the battle to sign Joleon Lescott.

West Ham and Turkish club Besiktas are also keen on the out-of-favour Manchester City defender, who's been linked with Tottenham and Aston Villa, too.

But Fulham have also registered their interest in the England centre-half, who the Blues could allow to move on loan in January.

The west Londoners are keen to strengthen their leaky back-line, and see Lescott's pace and experience as being valuable in their struggle against relegation.

Clint Dempsey returns to rescue Fulham

(http://l.yimg.com/bt/api/res/1.2/phTBXbWiYTNpcNHgE8aijg--/YXBwaWQ9eW5ld3M7cT04NTt3PTYzMA--/http://media.zenfs.com/en_us/News/gettyimages.com/norwich-city-v-fulham-fa-20140104-181653-100.jpg)
NORWICH, ENGLAND - JANUARY 04: Clint Dempsey of Fulham in action during the FA Cup sponsored by Budweiser Third ...

Clint Dempsey spoke of returning "home" when he confirmed his temporary winter return to the English Premier League, but despite rejoining the club where he spent much of his career, he may find things lacking familiarity the second time around.

From 2007 to 2012, Dempsey played for Fulham FC, where he turned himself from an ambitious American import into a U.S. national team star and, for a period before returning to Major League Soccer last year, one of the Premiership's most influential players. He has returned to West London for a two-month loan, a move aimed at keeping him sharp for this summer's World Cup until the Seattle Sounders' MLS campaign resumes in March.

However, this is not the Fulham that Dempsey is used to seeing. The Cottagers have endured a wretched start to the Premier League season and were stuck in the treacherous relegation zone until a minor recent upturn.

Danger of the drop still looms, and the locals feel the key missing ingredients have been energy and desire, two qualities Dempsey brings with abundance. It is widely hoped, from the club's hierarchy to its fan base and playing staff, that the 30-year-old Texan can provide a necessary spark.

If he can, Dempsey's winter jaunt across the pond can turn into the kind of valuable and uplifting experience he is seeking. If not, he might start hankering for Seattle's caffeine and drizzle ahead of time.

In short, this loan move will be whatever Dempsey can make of it with his own force of will. Fortunately, there seems to be no lack of motivation on his part.

"This has always felt like my home in Europe," Dempsey told FulhamFC.com. "I want to help the team when they are not in the position they want to be in the table. I'm excited about being here and hopefully I can help out and make sure we stay in the Premier League."

Fulham's core support was not especially impressed when Dempsey sought a move away from the club in 2012 and joined Tottenham in a $9 million deal. They have forgiven him swiftly, though, chanting his name during and after a 1-1 draw with Norwich City in a rugged FA Cup clash last weekend.

Fulham CEO Alistair Mackintosh was the driving force behind the loan deal once Dempsey expressed interest in a brief PL stint. Current Stoke City and former Fulham boss Mark Hughes also tried to get him, but Dempsey's ties to his old club outweighed those to his old manager.

Fulham's predicament is far removed from the highlights of Dempsey's time at the club when it reached the 2010 Europa League final and finished in the Premiership's top 10 three times. This weekend, the side takes on bottom club Sunderland in a matchup arguably more important than the trio of mouthwatering matches against Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool that all fall within the confines of his two-month term.

The Premier League is, by its nature, a far more physical and intense league than MLS, but one of the quirks of Dempsey's deal is that it may actually provide him more time and space than he is used to.

As the highest-paid player in MLS and the focal point of Seattle's livewire attack, he attracts a swathe of attention, with many MLS defenders quickly realizing that the best way to stop him is to kick him. At Fulham, he does not have as much of a target on his back and may appreciate the additional latitude.

Such a scenario would help ahead of the World Cup. Head coach Jurgen Klinsmann and the U.S. need Dempsey to be firing at full strength if they are to have real hopes of surviving a Group of Death that includes Germany, Portugal and Ghana.

"Going into a World Cup year you want to get to that top form and carry it forward so you get a good showing," Dempsey said.

So this is a somewhat strange Fulham, as far as Premier League observers are concerned. The Cottagers are disjointed and inconsistent and defensively unsound, and, quite possibly, they will be scrapping for their Premiership lives going into the final few months.

But also in 2007, the club looked doomed before an upstart PL rookie scored a critical winning goal against Liverpool in early May to guarantee survival. His name? Clint Dempsey.

Maybe things aren't so unfamiliar after all.

I remember Morrison. I remember Fergie tried  to keep him. There was a period when the youngsters started abandoning the ship so to speak. Around the time Ronaldo left. And Tevez. And Rooney wanted out. Pogba left for Juve... Fans were worried, SAF couldn't keep his starlets. Unheard of.
Hope you get him. Rene knows his stuff. I am so jealous, yet pleased Rene ended up here.

The unfortunate thing is Count , Moyes made the bad decision of bringing his own coaching staff with him. They worked together for many years, knew how they all worked and did a fantastic job with him at Everton. Why would he not bring them?

Lets look at the other side of the coin, the coaching staff at United brought success and the players knew them inside out. Why would he get rid of them?

It is a damned if you do, and damned if you don't situation....  but he went with what he knew, rather than risk change.

Moyes took the job of a lifetime, but unfortunately his predacessor ( spelling ) was arguably the greatest manager in the history of the game, and he was always doomed to fail.

I think that this quote from Rene sums up a big issue the Moyes has had;

"I said to him, 'David, with all due respect, you've done a fantastic job in the Premier League with Everton but do you realise you are going from a yacht to a cruise ship?' Ferguson, the captain, had a good crew with coaches like me."

Moyes had not got the experience of managing a huge team, and removed all of those around him who did. Very foolish...

I think what ever manager came in straight away after Fergie was damned. The next one will have more chance of being accepted and gaining success

Moyes should never have been appointed, but now that he has they have to stick with him. Sacking him and throwing someone else in there isnt gonna solve everything

As I said in another thread. Either sack him immediately or let him build his own team.
The fact of the matter is, that he is a broken man right now. He is failing and there's nothing he can do. I have no doubt that he is a good manager, but at what level? He never won anything at Everton for 10 years. FA cup once I think... Martinez right now is doing the same job if not even better and with arguably weaker squad.
Sure David can claim this isn't his squad at United and that the players are average. But anyone can manage a team full of stars. Anyone could manage a Man City team, so to speak
Moyes is an "idiot", for overestimating his abilities, for not being smart enough to make this transition smoother, when he had the chance to do so with the coaching staff already there and for not being up to date with his methods in training and tactics
He's one of those Jol type of managers, or Sir Alex type if you will, who try to fit the players in their system of play. He keeps on insisting on a some variation of 4-4-2. When we do not have the personnel. The midfield is like Fulhams. Too weak for only two in it. It's no longer Keane - Scholes damn it. Learn from Rene. Put an extra body in there, get two holding midfielders.
Get Kagawa - Rooney - Nani behind RvP and utilize what you have. He plays Welbeck who is so overrated. Cleverley, who is no Scholes. Giggs, who with all his experience isn't a week in, week out player player anymore.  He can't fit Kagawa and pushes him on the wings, when at Dortmund he showed he's a world class no 10....
Too many stubborn Scottish silly mistakes and he won't learn.
If you hear his interviews after a defeat!" We played well ". The ref didn't give this and that".. Shut up. It's embarrassing. Even Giggs yesterday -" we played against the referees "! What!?

Sorry, this is your thread. Not one about Moyes. But Rene would have advised him properly and our loss is your gain now

Moyes to Manu
Roy to Liverpool
A lot of similarities there, none more so than Fergie and Dalglish sitting in the stands.

Right.
