For those of you who followed Roy Race and Melchester Rovers, I have the terrible news that I have just found out that Noel Baxter, Vic Guthrie, Steve Naylor, Carl Hunt, Neville Jones, Kenny Logan, Jimmy Slade and Trevor Cassidy were all killed in 1986 by a terrorist bomb in Basran.
Amazingly, they reached the league cup final and Roy dedicated Rovers' 2–1 win over Stambridge City in 1987 to those players.
As I say, I'm sorry to be the bearer of such shocking news.
Does anyone know what airline flies to Basran as I might go over just to pay my respects?
