Title: World Cup Match Thread for Wednesday
Post by: RidgeRider on June 23, 2010, 02:51:03 PM
This is it folks! Two life or death matches for our sides. We both win (England and USA) we both move on. The matches are both playing so I will be switching back and forth.

Looks like US have made a few changes - Bornstein on the left, Boca in the middle and Gooch out. Gomez up front and Edu playing CM.

I missed the changes for England, although I thought I heard Defoe will get the start and there will be another change at the CB pairing with Terry.

Good luck England and US!

I must say that I am weary of how the English media and public refuse to get behind our team.
The culture in Australia is that it doesn't matter if eleven serial killers pulled on the national shirt, the whole country would be behind them one hundred percent.
I have heard all the reasons why you in England don't do this and that is your prerogative but the attitude is something that has become alien to me.
There is still enough Pom in me to be proud of the country in which I was born and spent my first thirty-five years.
So as I said earlier - COME ON YOU REDS

...good luck back to you yanks, hopefully we both go through.

Huge atmosphere building for the England game, the England fans are making a HUUGE noise, you can hear them clearly over the zulukazoos.

I don't make predictions for Fulham, but today I think we will go behind, equalise and then in a surge of belief the multi-millionaires will stop scratching their behinds and do the country proud...

Upson and Milner in today as well.

I have to say, the English coverage, in the pre-game build up, was significant here in the US. The special relationship prevails.

Thus far, England looks up to it today. Players look focused.

Still cant excited by Defoe anouther player i hate, scoring. Not bothered if we go through or not.  i've got a weird feeling that all our favorites player MR Big JT is going to score.

England should be 4-0 ahead. Still 1-0, however
Their goalkeeper is decidedly suspect.

Syd,

We are doing fine. Defense is a bit shaky but we have creates some chances and seem to be on the verge of scoring. We have netted one already, Dempsey, but it was called back cause of off-sides, which he wasn't. We should win this one if the run of play continues.

We need a goal though!!!

RidgeRider
You are a lot more optimistic than I am ....our defense is a shambles and everyone is kicking a long ball at the goal when other options are available......Altidore AGAIN had a chance and he cannot finish ....Clints goal was good but taken back.......same ole horse crap.......Only way we are going through is if there is a miracle..we just are not that good sad to say ...no one can finish or defend....

Much as i'd love Dempsey to score and you lot go through, it was very close, probably should have counted, but not as clear cut as you Yanks make out.

Emotions aside, he was not offsides dear fred.

We have had SOOOO many chances it is getting ridiculous. One is going to go in. Almost got caught out on the counter.

Jim, we make it a point not to let our personal feelings about political figures or politics leak into the board. It's not healthy......even though some might agree, others won't.

That Sun headline was pretty clever, don't you think?

Personally, being as objective as I can, I don't agree. Putting his face on the board, especially given it is a celebratory video and in context of the US just winning a big match, with no personal comment regarding his pluses or minuses, is not inherently political. He is the President and it is just him moving in a video. No big deal. It is no different than ESPN showing that President Clinton was at the match. Not a political statement either.

If it was done routinely, than I think it would be different. I think we must put things in context, then we can evaluate things.

And Paul, let's not get riled if someone doesn't like the President. It is to be expected no matter who you support or don't, that is why we don't do politics here.....my advice, just let the comments go.

Well it's Ghana! Clint and John in the knock out...pretty cool. I agree with the heart in the throat, stomach spleen etc.. I had a thought that if we got 4mins then we would score... and we did. We have to finish better on our chances or it is going to be a short run. Nothing like the drama of this sport....wish you the best Ichabod Magoo.

Don't worry neither England or the USA will go much further the way we are playing.

Rubbish Aussie Keeper by the way. Another mistake for the Serb goal.

Mr. Lighthouse, I thought the same. I had the evil thought "let's give'em to the Arse for 3M".....then I saw two fabulous saves earlier in the game that I missed, and felt guilty for my thoughts.  :029:
