Title: Introducing a new feature- The Poster of the Month Award
Post by: dannyboi-ffc on March 25, 2015, 09:01:28 PM
Hello to all FOF members, My wonderful moderating team and I have decided to introduce a monthly award, recognition to the member we feel has made the best contribution over the duration of a whole calendar month. As I know most of you are like big kids I'm hoping you all take this opportunity to resist the temptation to insult, swear or go absolutely mental for whatever reason (we've all been there). Anyway here is the criteria that will be considered when choosing the contenders
*No swearing
*Interesting posts
*Reasonably sensible posts
*Sense of humour
*Regular posts
*Good topics started
*By all means disagree but don't cross the line
*Jokes but no offensive jokes (good luck)
*And most important of all (woolly!!!!) a limited use of the word 'doomed'. Its not banned yet but not in every thread ay? (not my decision so don't shoot the messenger)

I think you get my drift.... As I still consider myself one of you guys I don't want to be blamed for favouritism or my fellow mods becoming an enemy to anyone. Therefore at the end of every month Myself, Logical Man, Berserker, LBNO11, Burt, possibly WhiteJC and FriendsofFulham and any other mods that may join in the future will all nominate one person each who we feel deserves it. I will then post a 3 day poll for everyone to pick the winner, exactly like the way MOTD goal of the month works. This way you only have yourselves to blame if you feel the wrong person wins and you cant blame us. It should create good banter, fun and the continuation/ slight improvement of the quality of posts overall. Most of you are brilliant anyway but we can all step up our game to become the monthly King/Queen. And the most likely winner will be the member who's nicest or most respectful to their voting peers, so sometimes it pays to be nice.

Me however, well I will remain the same because Mods cannot be nominated to prevent any suspicious minds (thankyou very much).

WHATS THE PRIZE?????

I'm glad you asked that, I realised that the honour of being voted the best wouldn't be enough for you greedy Fulham fans so I made some calls to a few contacts, people who owed me a favour or two and I'm delighted to say the winner will receive a goodie bag.

Here's what you win
1) A copy of the novel 'The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe' signed by Papa Bouba Diop.
2) A Felix Magath fitness dvd "Get fit or die trying"
3) A Facundo Sava mask
4) A replica Shahid Khan moustache
5) Frustration the board game
6) Two tickets to see the new musical based on the classic 80's film "3 men and a baby", but adapted to tell the story of last season "3 managers and a Berbie"
7) An inflatable Intertoto Cup
8) A goat called Big Phil
9)A question and answer session with Larnell Cole
10)An Ernie Clay MUG

I know, I know....... what a prize!

The first award will be for April so the nominees will be polled out to you guys on the 30th April.

Good luck and keep posting!  049:gif  084.gif

Can I enter on the basis that I only want the fake moustache if I win?

Everyone is entered as soon as they post for the first time in that Month. So like it or not you could win the lot. Just sell the rest on ebay.

I reckon you could get away with a Khan moustache, not many men can. I can't.........   :012:

You can call me anything you like Danny Boi, but my preference would be Sir!

I'm one those fans sadly dying out you described earlier (although not sure how we got here since 1897)and if I wanted to be involved in anything remotely akin to glorification I'd have not have supported Fulham..

So for those reasons ..... I'm out.

Innovation....... Pah!!!!

We could also have "Post of the Year".
The Post of the year has already been won by the right hand Goal Post at Huddersfield Town on Saturday which was struck by the penalty kick that rebounded to safety.
The Goal Post itself is now residing in my back garden where it belongs, if you wish you may come along at your leisure and observe it for a small fee, although Bus Drivers are exempt.
OK,I think that's the winner settled.
To all other posters: Don't bother posting funny comments until January 1,2016 , unless you are happy with a honourable mention...

Would you need to blow up the inflatable Intertoto cup?

Out of interest who doesn't hum the song, every time the word Intertoto is mention?

Did you actually see the size of the trophy when we won it lol? If you can blow up a balloon then you're laughing. And yes I sing it all the time!

Right guys bit of breaking news regarding the prize goodie bag. I've managed to throw in a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet Larnell Cole. You just simply cant get a better prize than that!

Not too keen on the idea to be honest. I have the same lurking doubt's about that kind of system like the "like/dislike button" that was debated awhile back. A post of the month however, I could get behind that. There's always a few gems and the Huddersfield post comment on this thread had me rolling
Title: Re:

Yes I like thread of the month idea, the pond sludge one is an example. There was many funny comments from lots of posters on that thread. We could all meet Sean Bean at the charity match as a prize : )

Why don't you make it so that as soon as someone types "doomed" it changes to another word

Just like you changed the g1nger to be special one

Have I won the prize?

I'm going to break both my index fingers on the 30th March so will be unable to type, can I enter mine now ?

As for swearing I can't ever remember doing that consequently I swear on here less than anyone unless there is
someone who swears less than none.

An interesting post I saw a couple of years ago was the one that John Wayne tied his horse to outside the
Big Todger Saloon in Dodge City in "True Grit"
The post (nicknamed "Funny") was studying for an online PHD in Pediatric Gastroenterology at the University of
Colonoscopy Research in Texarse and was of course sensible.
It constantly took ExLax and as such was an extremely regular post, in fact the stain on Eli Wallach's chaps
when he was thrown out of the Lovely Jubbly Saloon in "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" was attributed to Funny.
(the chaps are on display in Planet Hollywood in the current exhibition "Historically important chaps of the Wild West")
Annie Oakley, Calamity Jane, Hop Sing (Bonanza) and The Swede (Hell on Wheels) all have exhibits there)

The mystery about the post was that it obviously had no gender bits and as such could have been male, female,  lesbian,
transsexual or a shirtlifter.

I read recently that Funny had moved to London, got hitched and had taken up a post at Great Ormond Street Hospital with a part time job in Planet Hollywood, next to the chaps.

I'm not sure 'crossing the line' is appropriate, it sounds like a Catholic genuflection before sniffing Pepsi

I disagree with everything I've written.

THE END IS NOT NIGH

I hope this is an early April Fools joke. Really, an award for employee of the month? Unaccustomed as I am, I would like to thank the academy for voting for me and my little post. Say hello to my little post. Get away from my post you bitch. Now in all the excitement did I fire 20 posts or 120. Well do you feel lucky post?

I am already dressed in Gum Boots and my pink chiffon ball gown ready for the ceremony.

Given we have a general election hurtling towards us I am wondering on what basis the poster of the month will be selected.
1. First past the post?
2. Proportional representation?
3. Single transferable vote?
4. Putin-style freedom of choice so long as it is in line with his wishes?
5. Drawing straws?

I started a good topic just the other day, there was even a hazelnut in every bite (or was that squirrel oops). Well I found it interesting, reasonably sensible, a kind of humor, quite regular after eating it, it did disagree with me a little, but I didn't cross any lines, .. oh I give up!  :dft001:

She went home and cooked the food, ate it and then, after washing up and watching

Pray tell me, what I would like to know is, who is keeping an eye on your bad behaviour, especially when your frequently driving your Route-master passed crowded Request Stops, like you did to me the other night in Dulwich Village, and as it was the last bus, I had to walk home to Ashtead Surrey.

That is not actually true. I spotted at least two in Manchester City Centre on Saturday evening drinking watered down cocktails.

It's called moving the goalposts. But you have forgotten Man of the Match, Supporter of the Week. Joke of the Day, Rant of the Hour. Criticism of the minute.
The list is endless, but look at the plus side.
There is a prize for potentially everybody and anybody if we had a prize for each those subjects. Even I might stand a chance, no on reflection I probably wouldn't. But that way there is a prize for potentially everyone, if you use that method.
The positive posters and the negative will stand a chance, as will the reactive and the proactive.
Think if we had a rant of the hour award, how many potential winners are there in that one. You also add a Mr Angry Award each month, that also has it's candidates. Plus it will keep Danny busy with all the Prize Givings.

Also perhaps some suggestions regarding prizes. This is where Danny comes in. I knew he would come in handy at some stage.

Ist Prize    a Bus Lane.
2nd Prize.   A Low Bridge.
3rd Prize.  A Request Stop.
4th Prize. A Clippie for the night or day depending on your shift pattern.
5th Prize. A No Right Turn Buses only Sign Post.

Booby Prize. Is a personal Tour By Danny at 3am on an open top Routemaster round the back streets of Peckham Rye, now that should be popular.

Even before I became a mod I have never understood the way people distance moderators from the rest. "You mods have already changed it" is a bit unnecessary. The idea of this is to create a bit of banter when the poll is posted and to try and encourage better or more interesting posts.

You can see by the list of prizes that it isn't something to take to heart, obviously there isn't actually a prize. I felt in the end poster of the month was I suppose a little silly because it would always end in someone feeling the winner was "our mate" etc etc.

I realise you have been on here for a long time but sometimes change is good, if everything was to remain so that we were set in our ways then it would eventually become stale. Just give it a chance OR let us know you don't want to be apart of it and let us give it a go without the criticism.

Its only a bit of fun and just initially a trial period. People were sceptical about the tipping cup but that worked out eventually especially for you.

Sorry but why so sensitive? The Mods decided to create a Post Of The Month. The Mods decided to change it. What is unnecessary about the statement?  I am not distancing myself from the Mods, just pointing out the facts. I have always gone out of my way to defend the moderation on the site. Even when it was against me. Which was always wrong and needless. The uniform of black thigh boots, crisp knee length undergarments and strange handshakes are unnecessary. But you do what you like. However the statement was meant as a fact and is a fact.

As you may heave realised I think the idea is ridiculous. However that doesn't mean I think all Mods are ridiculous. Some of my best friends would be Mods if I had any friends.

Maybe its me still not used to this mod enemy banter. I know some people think I am going to let this go to my head but I promise you I'm not. I felt it was a compliment when I was asked to become one, one I assume was given to me because of the way I interact with everyone and the passionate style I have. I see no need to become a power freak telling everyone what not to say, common sense will hopefully prevail and a little maturity too. I have made friends on here for being me and being a mod wont change me one bit.

For all my faults when I was advised by a mod to stop swearing or doing something that they didn't like I was very apologetic and cooperative, they/ we are not school teachers but I've quickly realised if they wasn't there then this forum wouldn't be half as good as what it is. Imagine a football match without a referee, actually don't answer that lol.

So to summarise I have no problem with you thinking this idea is stupid and I certainly don't want you to not have a voice. But at the same time despite what you or any other member might think of the mods especially me because I am probably the least accommodated amongst a certain chunk, you have had your say so give it a chance before criticising it any further. It wasn't too long ago I referred to you as the educated member, I don't know if you remember that but I didn't have to say that. Maybe be a bit more lenient on someone who once looked up to you on here rather than brand me ridiculous

Some people will like this sort of initiative. Others won't. And others won't feel that strongly about it one way or another.

dannyboi's thinking was to see whether it could be something different and generate a bit of fun particularly when times are tough and the mood on the board not at its most positive.

If it works, great, we may do it again.

If it sort of works but with a few glitches along the way, so be it, we can do some tweaking to see if it gets better.

If it doesn't work then we will relegate it quietly to the Blue Square league division 27.

But nothing to lose in giving it a go...

Burt - Even before I became a mod I have never understood the way people distance moderators from the rest. "You mods have already changed it" is a bit unnecessary. The idea of this is to create a bit of banter when the poll is posted and to try and encourage better or more interesting posts.

Sensitive? I'm not sensitive, I just thought it was quite a blunt way to say it. I can read between the lines of what you just said and I'm glad the other mods are your good friends. I also assume that by saying you don't think all mods are ridiculous means that you think I am.

At the end of the day I respect your view of this idea and i'm sure you are not alone. If it turns out to be a stupid idea and no one is interested then it will be scrapped.

No I do think all Mods are ridiculous. I was just covering myself. I am a rebel without a cause, a free thinking mad, wild, wind in the hair and down the trousers sort of person. I aint going to let the 'Man' shackle my free thinking spirit. You aint going to take me alive. You Mods all look the same to me. I aint going to take no truck from the oppressor. Nobody going to tap me on the head and say I conform and was a good dog. No man I am free to say what I want the way I want to say it.

Now to conform to the Man I need to put  :005: or is it  :dft011: Just in case the 'Man' or the Oppressor is unable to realise in every society you need somebody to fight against.  :028: :dft011:

I think you are taking yourself far too seriously. You seem to be missing the point of everything I was saying. Clearly my fault. You didn't have to say I was an 'educated member'. Are you trying to guilt me into agreeing with everything you suggest? I never branded you ridiculous. Just the idea. Still  I really was trying to be funny after that.  I even put the funny icons in. But you clearly want to take offence and this is where I shall bow out. As a Mod you really will have to learn not to get involved in arguments of your own making.

As always the voice of reason Burt.

Yes, give Dannyboi a break -he's been a breath of fresh air with his enthusiasm on here, and he is attempting something new as a new Mod. Let's give it a chance- see how it goes.

What about those Clippies, when are they turning up ?

They were last seen in a Boston harbour, where the sea turned a nasty - bust somewhat aromatic - color of brown.

I've only been there once, in the 80s, to visit a friend. Because I was early I thought I'd have a look wround the town to kill some time. Ok, it was a Sunday but the place was DEAD. I tried to get a lunch but the pubs were dire.

I went to Boston a couple of years ago and actually quite enjoyed the place. Very pleasant, with more history and heritage than most other places I have been to in the US. It really did feel like you were in a place that shaped the world today.

And my girl loved it because there was a Hollister store  :dft011:

See I announce the prize package with the pick of the bunch being a get together with the one and only larnell cole and all of a sudden he pops up in an u21 game.

Coincidence possibly OR maybe just maybe I have put a lot of effort into these prizes and the award deserves a little more respect........

Oh well dannyboi, one day they will see. They all laughed at Christopher Columbus once upon a time. I will win you over eventually!

Back in the sixties I went out with a Bus Conductoress,  or a Clippy  as they were known in those days from clipping the tickets I would imagine.
Anyway I had to break it up, because every time we went out in her car which was bright red, we stopped at every bus stop on route, due to force of habit, she reckoned. She even charged me the fare. She also had a bell in her car, and when she gave me a lift home, if I didn't ring it, she would drive passed my house.
