Brighton turn down new Fulham bid for Lewis Dunk

Fulham have seen their most recent bid for Brighton and Hove Albion defender Lewis Dunk turned down.

The offer - rumoured to be £5million - was the Whites' third attempt to lure the 23-year-old centre-back to the club.

But it appears that Albion are determined to get the maximum for their man if he is to depart the Championship leaders.

And the news will come as a hammer blow to Fulham fans as the club continued their unfortunate habit of conceding late goals in the 2-1 defeat at the KC Stadium.

With the Cottagers having gone their first three league matches without a win, fans will be feeling anxious as they seek to avoid a repeat of last season's appalling start to the season.

And with Dunk seen as an ideal solution to a struggling back four, manager Kit Symons will be left frustrated as his search to improve his defence continues into the final week of the transfer window.

Newcastle are said to hold an interest in the defender although Fulham will be hoping these reports are wide of the mark if the Whites are to stand a chance of obtaining their key target.

The Cottagers will also be sweating over their squad depth after first-team players Matt Smith and Marcus Bettinelli both suffered knee ligament damage in the defeat to Hull.

The striker and goalkeeper collided in the first half of Wednesday night's encounter - and the latter had to be stretchered off after Smith landed on his leg.

I need someone to create a timeline of every offer we've had accepted, every offer we've had declined and every medical Lewis has had with us - it's getting so confusing!

Clearly, Brighton will play this game until the last day. So, Fulham perhaps should ask them what they want or go to plan B. Someone else.

Move on, they are holding us to ransom because they know we are desperate.

If they won't accept 5 million surely it's time for plan B.
If they are stuck with him and his replacement - hope their greed backfires and Newcastle don't bid.

But yesterday they'd accepted it apparently?

No idea where we are genuinely up to here, just need 2 CB's!

Unfortunately, the next club will do exactly the same.

So right it is make your mind up time , we need to consider plan B with time left as we don't want to have to grab left overs on the last day of the window.

Exactly.

What do they want for him? Can we afford it? If yes, get the deal done. If not, move on.

As much as I like the speculation, i find it quite fun to see who we are linked too.

Does anyone know for certain that we have put a bid in and it has been rejected, i cant remember seeing anywhere from either club official confirmation that we had bid and it had been rejected. Hughton said we had contacted them but that he wasn't for sale but that isnt the same as us having a bid confirmed.

Mr Rigg, why don't you just ask Brighton the following 2 questions:

1) Is Lewis Dunk for sale?

2) How much would you take for him?

Then decide if we are willing to pay the required amount.

If so, stump up, if not, stop faffing around and get someone else.

It's not rocket science, but all of this to-ing and fro-ing is not getting us anywhere.

Rigg said in his interview, selling club will try and get as much as they can, buying club will try and get for a little as possible.  This is what is happening.  I however don't know the amounts being offered and/or the amounts being asked.  I can't imagine either Brighton or Fulham making this public knowledge so its all total media speculation.   I am sure we are with potentially other clubs, trying to get him otherwise he would have been playing and Brighton will not have signed 2 new players.  I have seen a lot of Conor Goldson and can tell you he is an excellent player who I would have been happy for us to try for.  The German also looks decent so Brighton are doing good business, have made a very positive start to the league whilst we dither and cock it up.  How many would right now swap Houghton for Symons.

Tell them to naff off and go for a different option.we should have looked elsewhere when they rejected first offer.anyway whoever we get wont help as our manager is pathetic and would ruin Barcelona in a month.

Not if but when, for how much and where Lewis Dunk goes. We are already into the realms of hard-to-argue-with centre-half business by #bhafc

@jameslister2 Don't dismiss Fulham. Money usually talks in the end, they can multiply his wages.

For this money he is not the only defender in the league.  If we have to go north of 5 Million, it is time to go back and look at Strearman again.  He is not as young so perhaps doesn't have the upside, but I would argue that due to the fact that he has more experience (prem and Championship I believe) he would be an equal edition as far as improving us, and I would argue he is a better defender right now.

Turner is still an options as well.  Bod needs to be nowhere near the first choice on this squad.  I would take Turner, Ream, and Stearman right now, throw them in the mix with Burn and Hutch and in my opinion you will have an immediate and measureable improvement to our defense.

If not Stearman, then move on down the line...but get someone in and do it now.  I appreciate Rigg being a good steward of our funds and trying to get the best price, but this is costing us points every week.  We are past the point of nickel and diming.....make a best offer, if rejected move on.  I know we are have been linked with tark as well, but another young player that we will have to overpay for.  May be time to start looking at lads in their late 20's rather than mid or early.

OK this Dunk thing is getting very boring now. Walk away and find some alternatives. We should have just put a 5m bid first up weeks ago, which they likely have accepted.

I'd take Vlaar and see if his injuries disappear.

Vlaar on a free, would be great but he has had bags of injuries, but a ex Villa captain,Dutch international,30ish,his experience would benefit Burn and Hutch and it also stops Brighton pulling our pants down!

After 3 games they are looking like league contenders. Can't see them selling to a Championship club now, they'll be targeting promotion. We should have got the deal done before the season started, no chance now IMHO.

Caveat:18.46 - Reserve the right to be thoroughly proven wrong when Khan and crew announce the coup signing.

Still too early for any club to accept that, 2 games and we could be above them. Unlikely but possible.

Would be great to get a CB over the line, genuinely think Shaun Hutchinson with a partner is good enough to be a starter. One glaring error this season confounded by a refereeing mistake is his only standout black mark for me.

If it came down to one CB and a striker or 2 CB's now I'd definitely go for the former - assuming Ream is playing LB.

Forget it, let's keep who we have got already, they are good enough to get us promotion from the 1st Division next season!!!
