Title: Alphabet April Game- letter U, V, W and Z
Post by: dannyboi-ffc on April 10, 2016, 08:01:02 PM
Now we are safe here's a little game to keep you going for April. Each day I will post a thread for a specific letter. Your job between you is to create a 442 starting eleven made up of players who's names begin with the chosen letter. Every player must have played 1 first team appearance even if it's as a sub.

You will have 24 hours to complete the eleven and the time my thread is posted will be the time the clock starts. Some will be easy and as soon as I see a team is completed I will lock the thread and start a new letter ASAP to give you extra time for the next one.  The aim is to complete the alphabet before April ends. After 24 hours if the team isn't complete the thread is still locked and you lose that letter. If you fail to complete 3 letters you all lose. I'm feeling generous so the letters will be in order excluding U, I, Q, V, Y and Z which will come after W and be one joint team as none of them have 11 players on their own.

Obviously X is impossible so its not included. That's 20 days to complete 20 teams. And the faster you do the first 19 gives you more time to answer the multiple letter before April ends.

You can have 2 wildcards which a few of you need to agree on. These wildcards mean you can change formation twice to make completing the team easier. So try not to waste them.

New rule- you can only have 2 picks each per letter. This way it means you are relying on each other so if you have a good one don't say something obvious.  Play the game tactically. If anyone goes over their allowed guesses you lose the letter.

D- failed.
2 lives remaining
0 change formation remaining

Remember 2 guesses each or you will forfeit the letter but still have to complete it to continue

An example of the flexibility. Baird could be juggled to suit from CB, RB to CM.

Once all 20 teams are up you can vote which team on paper would have been the best

Post by: dannyboi-ffc on April 12, 2016, 07:22:53 PM
Both change formations have been requested now. Good luck trying to finish this without them lol. It's gonna take some real Ali Mac/ Mike Rigg negotiations with me to juggle players secondary positions.

And it's going to take the mastermind tactics of a Lawrence Sanchez to put XI together.

As they say on Countdown,  "Consonant please Rachel"........."K"

Apologies to Barrett for missing out your picks. I'm happy to change it if anyone feels McCaree or Marshall fit in somewhere but that central midfield is strong at the minute. Bit too good to find room for Marshall?

Apologies to Ray too, there was just too many put forward this time as M is an easy one.

I refuse to apologise to FPT though. When it comes down to McCormack on the wing (he's done it occasionally) or Milsom there's only one winner. And then I had the dilemma of a back 4 losing one of those 3 legendary strikers or lose Manolev and play a back 3........exactly. I think you should apologise to me lol

N now lads. I think CMG is right. M's team would walk the championship

Which position is Les? Is he the equivalent of a fullback?

I'll take O'Driscoll. Too many O's to pick O'Hara over Ince. Tried to make it balanced. I picked your other one though Ray

You can't have Ivor lol. I put him in D for Davies. Next you will say W for Diop (The Wardrobe) hahaha

What about a makeshift centre half?

I think he would do a decent job there in a Aaran Hughes role

That's good enough to convince me

Oh, this thread moves at a hell of a pace, totally missed out on the M's where I realised that Dannyboi would have a problem with the surplus of favourite strikers and I note that McCormac has had to be fitted in a midfield role. Pleased to see that McBride took the centre forward spot. Also remember that Macdonald and Maybank are still there if needed.
Anyway onto the P's.
Mark (Pancho) Pearson , a striker we signed from Man U.
Martin Pike,     a left back

Point of order.

Rodak has yet to play for the first team, does he count?

Reseach shows we had a goalkeeper in the early 1900s called Arthur Reynolds...

Some of my favorite S' left out... since the team looks to be complete...

Salcido, Orland Sa, Freddie Stoor... Stoor was so fast but only made a handful of appearances with us... Crazy that a guy who played 11 times for Sweden could never make it with us.

It's so close to the end that I can't be arsed with the rules lol. You've only got 3 left after this and the final reward for completing the teams will be revealed at the end.

I'm not sure how it will be received to be honest but most of my ideas have been liked up til now so fingers crossed

Cool. What would you rather Slough in to make a diamond. Or to replace Smertin in a 433 with Sava?

He was much more a regular than Smertin

Who?

Alan Slough whom someone wanted to slot it. He was the first player to kick a ball in a league game on a Sunday. Fulham and football legend.

Cool. Who would you rather Slough in to make a diamond. Or to replace Smertin in a 433 with Sava?

He was a Nr. 8, as I recall. There weren't diamonds in those days!

So what formation do you want lol

To be honest, I havn't really been bothering with formations, just suggesting players for each position. I'd just swap him for Smertin, I can't see that anyone would object to that.

You've only got 10 players anyway, so why not just slot him inside Smertin.

Some of my favorite S' left out... since the team looks to be complete...

Salcido, Orland Sa, Freddie Stoor... Stoor was so fast but only made a handful of appearances with us... Crazy that a guy who played 11 times for Sweden could never make it with us.

We're one short and don't make us lose another life!!

It's so close to the end that I can't be arsed with the rules lol. You've only got 3 left after this and the final reward for completing the teams will be revealed at the end.

I'm not sure how it will be received to be honest but most of my ideas have been liked up til now so fingers crossed

Couldn't you edit Alan Slough in Danny?

Where?

You only have 10 players listed under 'S' Danny, with a nice gap in a 4 man midfield.

You can have Bob Thomas a pacey striker from our 1949 promotion team, Sid Thomas a tricky little welsh international winger from a little earlier .
I will stay in the same era and go for a couple of Taylors.
Jim Taylor a an English international centre half and Jeff Taylor a striker signed from  Huddersfield.

What about Andy Thomas who we had on loan from Oxford I think and if we had signed him I reckon we would have been promoted in 1982

These guys who we had on loan in 1982 I haven't got a clue about. I need positions to get my head around what formation to have.

To put it into perspective it's like someone in 30 years and not even born yet knowing Shorey or Guthrie were here on loan.

Stuff it ill just add Talbot in the middle and play 3412.

W would be ok on its own just about but the other letters wouldn't make a team. So this is the last one guys. A mixture of U, V, W, and Z.

X and Y are excluded.

Since it's the last one um gonna put my thoughts out there and break all my own rules lol. We seem to have 4 vacant positions. My proposal is at left back is the only player we've had who began with a U and he was a fullback.

In front of him on left wing - Wome.

In the middle of the park- McDonald's side is the clue.

On the other wing- think of the present.

But if others fit in I'm easy. It's your team, your call

I remember Warboys, he was my choice - only because he  came into my mind as a 'w'. He came to Fulham in the  70's, with a  good  goal scoring reputation,  but didn't do much, as you can see from the stats.

Better having Woodrow instead of him I think.

Right ladies and gents can I have your attention please.

Congrats on completing the challenge, in very rapid time too. Your wealth of knowledge has reminded us of so many greats and most sides look pretty decent on paper. Have you ever wondered to yourself which side would be the best based on an alphabet game? No me neither.....

But it seems a shame to do all that work and not find out. So now I will be working on a poll in a Euros style. Split into 4 groups you will vote for 2 teams per group and the highest 2 per group will make the quarters, semis and final.

Don't let me down, I expect the poll to remain on the first page with plenty of analysing and debates. Just exactly which letter has been kindest to Fulham Football Club down the years? Thank you for taking part, its been fun.

Watch this space......
