Care to explain why? This is a question, not a counter-argument.

I can see that he is not an established, proven striker but might he be a prospect? He seems to have a scoring rate of 1 in 3. Have we been promised a 'star' striker?

There are many examples of your wisdom.  Bobby Zamora wasn't exactly setting the world alight when purchased from the Hammers, and like Hodgson before him, SJ is proving to be very capable of getting players to perform.  We need a decent squad in depth and anyone who can be turned into good business shouldn't be dismissed.   There are plenty of decent strikers who are not finished articles and it is up to JS to determine what he can do with them (in more ways than one).

As much as we have been linked with the regular championship targets, knowing Slav we'll sign someone from the continent, for a bargain basement price who'll be a steal. Someone like Mounié, although that seems to be off now.

We've been told repeatedly our objective is promotion and we've just sold the best striker in the league for £12m, having sold another 15-goal striker earlier in the summer. It's a corollary of that we'll sign at least one quality striker soon.

Now people love to point out all the examples of strikers that were prolific before they joined us then awful when we got them, and/or highly priced and then similarly awful, but the fact people seem to neglect is overall there's still a massive correlation between how successful someone has been in their career to date, how much they cost, and their quality.

One of the weaknesses of the human brain is we give undue attention to exceptions and lose sight of the general rule. Totally irrational.

So I do expect us to sign a top quality striker and although it's not absolutely necessary, I expect him to be expensive and have a strong track record.

With all that said I'd settle for Clough as a squad player.

Clough is a very good player, but definitely couldnt start up top on his own, so if we signed him, I think he would be a squad player.

That would be a bargain.  He's a lot better than his Bolton colleagues.

We sold Ross because he refused to play for us - what else was there to do and in any event he did not fit into our team or
any of the others he'd played for. So what else was there to do?

As a matter of fact - we did not sell Dembele - he walked out of the door at the end of his contact and that was that.

You seem to specialise in porkies - I wonder why?
