Title: Cauley is injured
Post by: FFCFOREVER on August 24, 2016, 09:50:54 PM
So now Cauley Woodrow has gone off injured against Boro.Surely this now reinforces the fact we need at least 2 half decent strikers and time is ticking by.

Maybe an opportunity for a youngster like Humphries  to play, but i'm sure we'll sign someone. This will give SJ some extra clout, if he needs it. It would be scary if we had to play youngsters.

What was/is the injury?

Im all for trying out the youngsters but as you say this will only reinforce Slavs position. We need strikers that can grab at least 10/15 goals at senior level who are tried and tested.

Sadly tonight proved that Woodrow is not able to lead the line as a lone striker. He huffs & puffs but did not look like providing the goals one would expect of a main striker.

Sad to hear he is injured.  Hope he is back soon and get more chances to play.

That will be Sheffield United dropping their interest then.

He's just tweeted about the game today and said he's looking forward to Saturday. Nothing about an injury.

Makes it seem that he's fine, though I'm no Twitter doctor.

Didn't seem too bad. In all honesty think he was just exhausted. Smith was already stripping off to come on anyway.

For me he showed he lacks that 'killer instinct'. Shame.

Cauley Woodrow‏ @CauleyWoodrow
Also people asking about why I came off with an injury. I am fine, got a slight knock on where I previously broke my foot but all good!

I am a fan of both Cauley and Matt Smith and they usually both put in a good shift for us. However last night demonstrated that neither of them are going to be worthy of a top six club's lone striker position. If we are to become a promotion challenger then we just have to replace McCormac and spend on a top striker.
I think Smith will start on Saturday, he is more bother to defences in the box than Cauley.

I think we've looked much worse when he's started the last 2 games. Smith is in form and must be starting until we get another striker in. I still doubt if Cauley will make it at this level, I'd love him to but just can't quite see it yet.

Scoring goals. I think it's a fair way to judge a strikers game.

Aren't they both on 2 but Smiths were league games rather than against a league 1 club?

i was counting pre season too. but yes both on two if you want to exclude that. both are pretty useless in front of goal, at the moment, so it boils down to what they do when they dont score for me. and ill take woodys off the ball work over smiths. plus smith is handy to come on for the ole route one

I think we look more dangerous from corners with Smith especially with Cairney and Joz now delivering good balls (Ross was turgid) and he's also a good body for defending them. He is sluggish moving about the pitch though but for me is still underrated. Fans chant Cauley's name when for me he's barely ever done more than Smith but since he plays for England U21s people seem to believe he's better. Just my opinion though. I think we all can agree we need better.

i see it as just that though, look dangerous without actually being dangerous. i was desperately hoping for a new striker in by saturday. no doubt we should still have enough to beat them who ever we pick up top

Cauley left out of the u21 squad for England? Surely this means big Sam will call up both Woody and Smith for the seniors
