Hope I haven't jinxed it. COYW
Not for me yet.
Touch wood, I have managed to login and view the General Discussion area with my iPhone.
iPad working fine but pc still very slow on the same network.
090.gif I did bloody jinx it fp.gif gone back to how it was, have to access by going to forum stats.
Weirdly I have had very few problems on my PC coming on here. Strange how inconsistent it all is. It could be that FOF has become conscious of it's own existence and simply doesn't like some of you.
What are you doing?
Trying to sign into your MB
I'm sorry Dave, I can't let you do that.

You may well be right on that, but it seems like it likes me again.
Woohoo it works for me
I thought you meant the Fulham board (of directors). Now, that would be a first in a long time. :005:
NOOOOOOO it's not working again , obviously doesn't like me.
Worked for me
And now doesn't again
Was working for me, now it doesn't, we are convinced it's a server issue and nothing to do with the Simple Machines software.
Pattern seem to be, that members can view the forum fine from Laptops etc, but when viewing from other devices such as iPhones, iPads, they are logged out when trying to view the General discussion area.
We are working on trying to fix the issue, however, this may not be resolved until we move hosts.
Stopped for me also

Still not working on ipad though.
Not working on iPhone or ipad

I was wondering, is the name of the new server Hal?
Just saying.....
Strangely enough I am in China at the moment and in the past have been completely shut out when I am here.
This trip has been smooth sailing.
I can't seem to access other clubs forums though so a view from this week is unlikely
Cannot access properly on iPad or iPhone. Will check via my laptop but that also failed last time.
Thought I would give an update in case it helps. PC still painfully slow but when I get on it is up to date. ipad connects really quickly but is days out of date and even after I log in it recognises me until I try to view anything when it says I can't view and invites me to log in again.
Just in case this helps.
Can't access on iphone. Signs me out every time I try to read the general discussion forum.
I posted this on the last thread showing from Saturday even though I wasn't Showing as signed in, it seams even when showing as guest you can still post on the threads on that page, strange.

Nothing To do with this thread more an experiment regarding the problems with the FOF board, just seeing if I can post even though the page is showing as guest and not signed in, this page showing as not updated since Saturday lunchtime.
so I can post even though not signed in, admin are you aware of this?
I hope this information might help in solving the problem.

Still not working and often getting this message, but with17 users and 79 guests on line I assume the server not that busy.

Sorry, SMF was unable to connect to the database. This may be caused by the server being busy. Please try again later.

It's nothing to do with how many are on line with us, its to do with how many others are currently thrashing the server. Its called throttling, taking away valuable bandwidth from one, and allocating it to another, common problem with some hosts.

We upgraded with our present Host from a shared server to a cloud-based one, because they were doing the same there, but surprise, surprise, they are doing it again, after all the promises of a faster, more robust service. Although speeds did improve, the connectivity hasn't, and the dropouts are due to them starving us of Bandwidth, FOF's bandwidth requirements are quite high.
Anyway, we are and have been making copies of FOF, and testing them on some different servers, but this has been very time consuming. We will be moving, to a Host that fully supports the Simple Machines software, but we have to make sure its right.
Understand its frustrating for members, but these current issues won't be resolved until we move.
Laptop is fine but still not working on iPhone or iPad.
Thanks for trying to sort it out - good luck.
All,
As I have not yet experienced this particular problem (yet), I spent yesterday on several different devices logging in and spending time on the forum. I guess I am lucky as I did not have any issues.
A list of devices I played around with:
Iphone 5S
Iphone 7S
Samsung S4
Samsung S5
Ipad 2
Andriod tablet
Dell Laptop - windows 7 professional
Asus Laptop - windows 10
All of the devices have the latest software updates and the latest versions of web browsers for Chrome, Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge. Sorry no FireFox, haven't used that in years. The only problem I experienced actuall came from trying to post using Microsoft Edge. Edge allowed me to do everything but use Emojis while posting. Can't figure that one out.
I am going to suggest for those you are experiencing problems to please go in and delete your cookies and browsing history. Then relog into FoF and let us know how you are doing.
I am suggesting this because it would seem there could be a problem with cookies not refreshing them self with our current version of the forum program.
Hope this helps.
Deleted cookies and history on iPad and iPhone still no go on either!
Our Host, for what ever reasons, are also blocking/restricting us from updating to the newest version of SMF. It could be, that the older versions of SMF has bugs, or, the newer version supports the above updates that lovefffc mentions.
We are, however, working on this.
Deleted history and cookies again but still not working.

Fine now

All ok now but I'm not holding my breath, fingers crossed its all ok now.
I highly recommend everyone download the most up to date versions for Chrome, Internet Explorer or Safari.
I am using the latest versions on all of those devices that I used yesterday.
I was wondering why the post and why so happy... I hadn't experienced any technical difficulties before you wrote this... UNTIL TODAY where there was absolutely nothing I could do to get on the site. Seems a tad ironic. C'est la vie.

I take it you are not using iPad/iPhone it's been a problem since Saturday to log in, now the board is back after today's problems it's back to the previous problem, I.E. showing last post at 1.15 Saturday and not being able to log in. 090.gif

They won't, and it will be intermittent until we move Hosts. Unfortunately, our version of SMF is out of date, but, our current Host is restricting us from doing any updates, so we're a bit stuck. Whilst platforms like Apple, Android have all updated software their end, our old version of SMF is struggling to cope, and is a bit 'buggy'.
Once again, we apologies for this, but we are working hard to resolve the issue.
Unfortunately, its not just a case of picking FOF up and moving it, we're having to test certain platforms to make sure they're reliable and compatible with what we do.
I don't think some people realise how big our bandwidth requirements are compared to other forums out there.

Not a moan, just an observation. I could get to the home page but not to the forum all day until about an hour ago. That's on a PC. I suppose there was a hosting problem

You have my continued patience with what is a really thorny issue. I suspected the whole system was down when my browser started returning 'unreachable' error messages yesterday morning. I gave up after half a dozen attempts. Good to know the site is up and running again today.

Often your device will have a copy of the site saved internally which is recovered when you access it and (normally) updated as you move around the site. When the site is down you can see the saved copy but when to try to move you cannot do anything with it. I cleared all browser history, cookies etc., and got a 'site unreachable' message and so I knew the site was down.

Ah, that explains it. I bow to your superior knowledge. It's youngsters like you that understand all this geeky stuff.
I knitted 3 Pullovers whilst the site was down.
