Title: Preston - five goals, Concorde and the boat race.
Post by: win-dup on March 04, 2017, 12:05:18 PM
Think it was around 1979/80 when we played PNE and won five-one, Concorde flew over the ground and the boat race came past. All captured on ITV's the big match, with the commentator saying how unique the Cottage is. 1-0, a 747 and a lone sculler will do today.

I remember that game. At one point, their manager, Nobby Stiles, became so Irate, that he went mental at the Ref from the touchline. Our Manager, Bobby Campbell, had to restrain him. Happy days.

Concorde was always quite common back then.
There was a 4pm flight passing over most Saturdays.  People would ignore the match and watch this wonderful aeroplane.
It used to be more interesting than what was happening on the pitch sometimes! :)

I missed this yesterday, great post & brings back brilliant memories.  If this happened now, SKY would go to town on it & probably ruin it.

Hate to correct the original posts but the game when Nobby Stiles got so irate was a 5-3 win in 1978-79 season.  It was Sat 21 October so could not have been Boat Race day.

The Preston match the following season (1979-80) was a 1-0 win, Sat 1 September when Peter Marinello scored the winner.
