Title: what a strange game football is.....
Post by: rogerpbackinMidEastUS on March 14, 2017, 10:24:13 PM
But so powerful in the way that it can play so heartily with our emotions.

1-0
1-1
2-1
2-2
and then complete disappointed at an opportunity lost.

Then, positive vibes come back

We'll still make the playoff

Where does this arrogance come from? Who says we'll make the playoffs? We're Fulham. Nothing is certain at this club only that we bottle huge chances like tonight when they come by.

Don't think we bottled it at all, think we just left a bit behind at the Newcastle game.
Also our midfield took foot of gas when we went 2-1 up thinking we had won it.
Credit to Blackburn they kept going.

I have no idea who you are, but arrogant I'm not.
It's just my opinion.

I think we bottled it. We were expected to win, and needed to win. Blackburn were the underdogs with no pressure on them to do anything except roll over. And we couldn't handle that pressure. Whereas on Saturday when the roles were reversed, we flourished. That's our weakness this year that we bottle these games. I'm not looking forward to the Wolves game at all.

No pressure? The point Blackburn got today kept them out of the bottom three.

Agree, that was a huge psychological point for them

It's not so much a stupid game, more a simple game, made complicated by pundits, coaches and managers. if your having a dissapointing game, you can still run around. We must win v Wolves, too many draws at home, thank goodness our away record is strong.

Well it is now the morning after the night before and I am still gutted by last night's disappointment.
For us that was a great opportunity for a top six spot and we were going into a match at the Cottage looking better than we have for at least three seasons and playing a team in the relegation zone. Bearing in mind we had just won away against the leaders of the division we must have been odds on favourites.

We looked tired and stale, our team performance was dismal and we never deserved to win. Us fans have been let  down from a great height back into a sea of doubt.

The doubt now is how can a performance like that be turned around sufficiently to beat a Wolves side on Saturday who last night won at Brentford.

yes in  the same way that if you win the lottery that's a huge psychological boost
but you don't cry yourself to sleep if you don't win it
because you're not expected to win and have nothing to lose
no expectation = no pressure

So, all during our great escape, there were no positive expectations so no pressure? Really?

It really is as simple as that.  Nobody can expect to win every game, yet a lot of Fulham fans seem to expect exactly that.

Football is stupid. Sport in general is stupid. Teams who should lose don't always lose. One moment one human is doing something brilliant the next he is doing something stupid. However like life, we have to enjoy the good moments and not to get too down on the bad. The real problem is all those people who think flowers grow everywhere and there is no wickedness in the world and only Fulham can win and little animals and babies are cute and everything is predictable.

It isn't, expect nothing and be pleased when something good does happen. Life is stupid.

I'm with you.

I don't know what (some) supporters expected from a Blackburn team other than for them to just turn-up and roll over, which of course they did not do. And all credit to them. They deserved their draw which might have easily been a Rovers win had Lucas Joao put away an earlier presentable headed chance.

I agree with Roger. We are talking about Fulham. Also yankee Jim. From here on, Fulham do not want to be playing teams in the bottom 6. They fight like crazy.

Yes really. I think you're confusing the benefit of winning a game with the pressure of expectation. Of course everyone wants to win every game but the pressure of being expected to win is something different and much more challenging

So, our expectation of winning is greater than our desire to win? Strange thinking.

Well said.  I agree with the sentiment of the OP, but not with the description "stupid".  It's anything but.

One of my favourite descriptions of football is soap opera for people who can't stand soap operas.

I've changed that to 'strange' more appropriate  :0)
