Sevilla enter the race for Liverpool target Ryan Sessegnon
There is a long line of potential suitors for the 16-year-old but Fulham are confident of keeping hold of the wonderkid in the summer

Sevilla are reportedly the latest club to enquire after Fulham's Ryan Sessegnon.

The La Liga side are currently sitting third in the Spanish top flight, eight points off Real Madrid in top spot, and according to Bleacher Report are interested in signing the 16-year-old in the summer.

However, Sevilla's sporting director Monchi is to leave the club to join Roma, while manager Jorge Sampaoli is widely rumoured to be on the shortlist to replace Luis Enrique at Barcelona at the end of the season. which could put a stop to their interest come the transfer window.

Liverpool are the favourites to sign Sessegnon should he leave Craven Cottage, but in his first interview he stated his love for Fulham , revealing he wants to help get his club back into the Premier League.

The 16-year-old is still on youth terms at the Cottage but will sign a professional deal when he turns 17 in May.

Jokanović: Eight Finals
(http://www.fulhamfc.com/-/media/Slavisa_Jokanovic/slavtrainingmarch13300400.jpg?w=300&h=400)

Slaviša Jokanović is not concerning himself with how our Play-Off contenders are faring, preferring to focus solely on Fulham's fortunes.

The final run of fixtures concludes at Hillsborough against the side currently occupying sixth spot, but Jokanović is purely concentrating on making sure the Whites are still in contention by that point.

"I only worry about us," he stated. "The possibility exists that we're going to need three points in the last game away against Sheffield Wednesday.

"For us it's very important that we have an option at the last moment. It could be a very important historical game for us to try and put ourselves in the top-six at the last moment, but there are seven games before Sheffield Wednesday.

"In this crucial part of the Championship many things happen and I believe we are ready to show our best performance. We are mentally ready to push until the last minute.

"All the games are crucial. Now immediately what is in front of us is crucial, and after this is the Derby game. It's eight finals and we have to be ready for all the games."

Tom Cairney returned to Motspur Park at the beginning of the week as a full Scotland international, and his Head Coach was pleased to see him get international recognition.

"We're happy for him to get his first cap," he said. "I watched the game that he participated in and he played very well. This is good news for him.

"All of us want to improve and this is a good step forward for Tom Cairney. It's positive news if you get the chance to defend your country, and you have to be proud."

Liverpool may face intriguing summer battle with Sevilla for 6-goal defender

This would be an odd transfer, if it were to materialise, as English players rarely move abroad so young – but Sevilla are supposedly interested in Fulham wonderkid Ryan Sessegnon.

Get West London claims that the Spanish giants have been mightily impressed with Sessegnon's Championship season, in which he's scored six goals from left-back already.

They report that we are still the favourites to buy Sessegnon, who in his position is one of the most talented teenagers in all of Europe, but say Sevilla might make an offer as well.

Would a move to a Spanish side, likely to play in the youth team, be beneficial for Sessegnon when he's already playing consistently good second-tier football in front of big crowds? That's for the player and his agent to decide, although there'd be a fair argument to suggest a move into our Under-23 side would also be a step down.

If we did buy Sessegnon, we'd like to see him loaned back to Fulham, where he's clearly making great strides. Then perhaps in summer 2018, he can join up with his new team-mates on Merseyside.

Fulham forward Sone Aluko expects tough Rotherham test despite The Millers relegation woes
Rotherham will be relegated should they not beat Fulham tomorrow but Aluko believes each of their players will still be aiming to impress at the New York Stadium

Sone Aluko expects Fulham to put their past couple of results to bed with a victory at Rotherham but doesn't believe them being bottom of the league makes the tie any easier.

Rotherham are rock bottom of the Championship and will be relegated if they fail to win tomorrow at the New York Stadium against Slavisa Jokanovic's side who are chasing the play-offs.

They haven't won since January, but despite that fact Fulham's 28-year-old forward thinks the Millers will still give a good account of themselves as each and every one of their players will be out playing for something between now and the end of the season.

He said: "Even though they're bottom it's still a tough game and they'll give a good account of themselves, they did when they came to Craven Cottage.

"Even when they are relegated or if they were relegated already, it doesn't make a difference to players because theres always something to play for, whether it will be a new contract or you need to impress some one.

"Every time you play there is someone watching theres someone judging you so it will be a tough game, every point is is competitive.

"Most Championship teams, actually all of them, have been tough this season and we played them earlier on this season they gave a good account of themselves.

"They've had a tough season and are bottom of the league but it doesn't make it any easier.

"We're still confident and still expect to go and play our usual way of playing and turn the last couple of results around.

"Every point you get in this league you have to earn so if we want to win we need to be professional and have to work hard and play well and be clinical and keep a clean sheet."

Sone Aluko and Kevin McDonald visited the Fulham FC Ticket Office calling supporters to thank them for renewing their season tickets for 2017/18 - you can view the video right here .

Season Tickets for Fulham FC's 2017/18 campaign are now available to purchase with prices frozen until Monday April 10.

Birmingham City youngster Wes McDonald discusses his decision to swap Fulham for Blues
Attacker moved from his home town for more opportunities at BCFC

Birmingham City hotshot Wes McDonald believes his decision to leave Fulham and move away from his family as a 16-year-old is paying off.

The youngster scored for the third game running in Blues Under 23s' 1-1 draw with Colchester on Tuesday night.

And it was announced yesterday the club have decided to retain the services of the in-form 19-year-old who has developed well this season.

McDonald's purple patch has taken his goal tally to six in 25 games, with Tuesday night's effort a vindication of the hard work he has been putting in off the ball as he won possession high up the pitch and finished himself.

His campaign also vindicates the brave choice he made after four years in the academy at Craven Cottage.

"At the time I couldn't really see myself getting a shout at Fulham," he said.

"I knew Birmingham had a good pathway for young players so I thought it was a good place to try and kick on.

"I was 16, it was a big step for a young lad from London, I had to leave my family to come up here but the club was really good with me, they helped me settle.

"I am pleased with that decision, it seems to be paying dividends.

"I have been happy with my season so far. I have played more games this season, I have scored more goals than I did last season.

"I take that as a positive - and also my defensive side of the game has really improved."

And like every young prospect McDonald's eyes are fixed firmly on the senior prize.

"I want to try and get into the first team as soon as possible.

"I have had quite a few training sessions with them, I think I have done well and showed the new gaffer what I can do as a player."

McDonald's goal against Colchester followed up strikes against Sheffield United and Coventry in the last couple of weeks.

All the runners and riders in the Championship promotion race assessed
The Mirror spoke to journalists around the UK about Newcastle United, Brighton and Leeds and the other contenders for promotion to the top flight

Championship run in Huddersfield Town

Huddersfield Town find themselves in the midst of a promotion scrap at the top of the Championship table, with David Wagner's men battling it out with big guns Newcastle united and Brighton for one of the top two spots come May 7.

Beneath the Terriers, six teams hold realistic play-off ambitions, but with Town, Newcastle and Brighton's spots almost assured, three of those teams will be left disappointed.

The Mirror 's James Whaling (@jjwhaling) spoke to journalists around the UK to get their take on their own promotion contenders.

Here's what they had to say...
Newcastle United - Lee Ryder (Newcastle Chronicle)
Current league position: 1

Points: 78

Key player: Dwight Gayle

Run-in: Wigan (H), Burton (H), Sheffield Wednesday (A), Leeds (H), Ipswich (A), Preston (H), Cardiff (A), Barnsley (H)

Promotion odds: 1/50

What mark out of 10 would you give Newcastle's season so far and why?

8/10.

There was a fair degree of anxiety at Newcastle after relegation and losing the first two games simply added to that.

But game by game, Rafa Benitez has turned things around and changed the mood.

Every team seems to raise their game against Newcastle and they have been under great pressure in most fixtures, especially at St James' Park as teams look for a memorable result.

Newcastle have overcome some serious tests in recent weeks and beat Huddersfield and Brighton away.

With eight games left they hit the final straight looking like a team that are hard to beat while their rivals are struggling to cope with the pressure.

How have fans seen the season so far?

I think the fans don't need to be reminded that the season will be deemed as a failure if promotion isn't achieved.

Sinking into the play-offs is not an option in their eyes.

They now want to see the team promoted then Rafa Benitez backed with a solid kitty this summer.

How do you see Newcastle's run-in and what's your prediction for where they will finish?

I think that Newcastle will win the title.

They have five home games and three winnable away matches. As they close in on the 90-point mark I reckon they will keep their nerve at the right time and probably smash the 100-point barrier.

Brighton and Hove Albion - Andy Naylor (The Argus)
Current league position: 2

Points: 77

Key player: Anthony Knockaert

Run-in: Blackburn (H), Birmingham (H), QPR (A), Wolves (A), Wigan (H), Norwich (A), Bristol City (H), Aston Villa (A)

Promotion odds: 1/12

What mark out of 10 would you give Brighton's season so far and why?

9/10.

The question was how would they react to missing out so narrowly last season? The answer has been emphatic.

The squad is stronger and they have been hard to beat again, especially at home.

Last season's experience should help them over the line.

How have fans seen the season so far?

Fans would have grabbed the position Brighton find themselves in with both hands.

Especially after the first of only two league defeats at the Amex by Brentford at the beginning of September, which left them 13.

There is not much for them to grumble about. Owner-chairman Tony Bloom, a lifelong fan, has pumped in around £250 million.

Chief executive Paul Barber has high-ranking experience with the FA and Spurs.

The infrastructure is in place for the Premier League. It is now a case of making that final step after three top six finishes in the last four years.

How do you see Brighton's run-in and what's your prediction for where they will finish?

The run-in looks easy enough on paper, especially at the Amex where they are so strong, but nothing is straightforward in the Championship.

They lost 3-0 at Nottingham Forest recently and the away form, impressive for the most part, has deteriorated lately.

All the teams they have left to play, with the exception of Norwich, are halfway or below.

Brighton supporters are not bothered about the title. Second would do nicely. That is where I expect them to finish, just behind Newcastle.

Huddersfield Town - Rory Benson (Huddersfield Examiner)
Current league position: 3

Points: 71 (with a game in hand)

Key player: Aaron Mooy

Run-in: Burton (H), Norwich (H), Nottingham Forest (A), Preston (H), Derby (A), Fulham (H), Wolves (A), Birmingham (A), Cardiff (H)

Promotion odds: 11/8

What mark out of 10 would you give Huddersfield's season so far and why?

9/10.

Huddersfield Town have enjoyed one of the best seasons in their recent history, breaking records which have stood for years on end.

A decade-long wait for an opening day victory was followed by a first win over Newcastle United since 1963 and the Terriers continued to impress until November.

Five losses in seven matches ahead of the festive period brought Town back down to Earth, but just as their Championship rivals thought they had run out of steam, David Wagner's side were back to their brilliant best.

Town have lost just three of their last 19 league matches, forcing both Newcastle United and Brighton to regard the West Yorkshire side as serious automatic promotion contenders.

Add to that an FA Cup run which was only halted by Manchester City - via a replay - in the fifth round, and it's been an exceptional season for one of last year's relegation candidates.

How have fans seen the season so far?

Huddersfield Town fans have a great relationship with owner Dean Hoyle.

The Huddersfield-born chairman is a lifelong Town fan and has given his all for the club since taking over as majority shareholder in 2009.

Hoyle appointed Stuart Webber as head of football operations in 2015 and the pair were instrumental in bringing head coach David Wagner to the club.

The introduction of Wagner and his gegenpressing style of football has brought on the pitch performances up to the same level as the work done off the pitch, with the ex-Borussia Dortmund man also being backed by the chairman in the transfer market.

The recruitment of the head coach - along with the playing staff - has been second to none. It's a great time to be a Town fan.

How do you see Huddersfield's run-in and what's your prediction for where they will finish?

It's hard to predict where Huddersfield will finish as it's down to their promotion rivals as much as it is the Terriers

Town are the fittest team in the league and - although there was a minor blip at Bristol City last time out - I expect Town to keep churning out performances and results to the bitter end.

Newcastle have the quality in the squad to get the job done - as do Brighton - but I see the Seagulls as the team for Town to catch.

All eyes will be on the top two in Huddersfield, with a play-off spot all but secure.

Town lost to Cardiff City, Preston North End and Fulham earlier in the season and face them in the run-in, but all three have to visit the John Smith's Stadium and I expect Wagner's men to do the job at home.

I expect Huddersfield to finish third this season - with Brighton and Newcastle just clinging on to the automatic promotion spots - but I think it will go down to the last day.

Leeds United - Adam Pope (BBC Radio Leeds)
Current league position: 4

Points: 69

Key player: Chris Wood

Run-in: Reading (A), Brentford (A), Preston (H), Newcastle (A), Wolves (H), Burton (A), Norwich (H), Wigan (A)

Promotion odds: 3/1

What mark out of 10 would you give Leeds' season so far and why?

8.5/10.

Which is incredible considering that last summer I reckoned finishing 12th would be successful campaign this season.

Head coach Garry Monk has done an outstanding job with a relatively small budget.

He has genuinely improved players and that includes a seasoned campaigner like former England goalkeeper Rob Green, top scorer Chris Wood and developed young talent like 18-year-old midfielder Ronaldo Vieira.

There have been some astute loan signings too – notably the centre back pairing of Pontus Jansson from Torino and Swansea City's Kyle Bartley.

In his understated way, Monk has created a unity, winning mentality and a robustness which make United difficult to beat even when playing poorly.

The recent victory over Brighton and the win against Derby at Elland Road are amongst the stand out performances in a season which saw him allegedly under pressure from the now joint owner Massimo Cellino in the opening weeks.

Monk's ability to focus on what he can control has reaped dividends and prevented him from being distracted by the circus which often travels with Leeds off the pitch.

Cellino has kept a lower profile than usual this season and has sold half his share to businessman Andrea Radrizzani who appears content to support and allow Monk to continue unfettered. That policy has worked.

How have fans seen the season so far?

The supporters are delighted with the progress on the pitch but have reservations about another play off campaign. History has not been kind to United when you think they have lost three play off finals in 1987, 2006 and 2008.

However, the bond between the fans and the players is as strong as I have seen it in the 11 years I have been covering the club.

They have a cult hero in Jansson but the spirit is typified all over the park and defender Gaetano Berardi is the epitome of the never say die attitude.

It would be one of the great footballing stories if United were to reclaim a place in the top flight, but it is not being played out against the usual exhilaration you associate with a promotion charge because of the measured and controlled approach to the job by the head coach, staff and players.

How do you see Leeds' run-in and what's your prediction for where they will finish?

To have a realistic chance of catching the top two Leeds will need to win at least six of their final eight games.

The victory over Brighton illustrated they can beat anyone in the division so they need to repeat that performance at Reading and Newcastle along the way. Also, they have two relegation threatened sides to visit in Burton and Wigan.

The latter is the final game of the season which could have a lot riding on it for both teams.

Now nailed on for the play-offs at the least, I hope United can take the possibility of automatic promotion to the wire so that they hit the extended season with momentum.

Hoping for second but probably will have to settle for third or fourth.

Reading - Jonathan Low (Get Reading)
Current league position: 5

Points: 67

Key player: Yann Kermorgant

Run-in: Leeds (H), Blackburn (H), Norwich (A), Aston Villa (A), Rotherham (H), Nottingham Forest (A), Wigan (H), Burton (A)

Promotion odds: 11/2

What mark out of 10 would you give Reading's season so far and why?

8/10.

It's a season which has exceeded expectations but the real test starts now with eight games left.

There have been plenty of highs this season but the most impressive aspect has been Royals' ability to remain within the top six with pretty much everyone on the outside writing them off.

Jaap Stam has been the figurehead leading the promotion charge and must been given plenty of credit given this is his first season as a manager in English football.

How have fans seen the season so far?

Fans are loving every minute of it on the field. Premier League football is the long-term aim and although it still can be achieved, most fans would be happy with a top-six finish.

The lingering concern, however, remains the ownership issue. The current Thai owners are looking to sell the club and it appeared Chinese investors were going to take over the club, but that fell through.

Stam has called for clarity in the issue as he looks to plan for the future. There is only so much he will take before saying enough's enough.

How do you see Reading's run-in and what's your prediction for where they will finish?

On paper Reading have a pretty favourable run in, with their final three home games all against sides in the bottom half of the table. The away trips are all tricky but given the season Royals have had, they should not fear anyone.

I think it will be close but they will make the play-offs - just. So I'll go for sixth spot.

Sheffield Wednesday - Chris Holt (Sheffield Star)
Current league position: 6

Points: 62

Key player: Fernando Forestieri

Run-in: Barnsley (A), Rotherham (A), Newcastle (H), Cardiff (H), QPR (A), Derby (H), Ipswich (A), Fulham (H)

Promotion odds: 4/1

What mark out of 10 would you give Wednesday's season so far and why?

6/10.

It's been a little bit disappointing in the sense that the football has been nowhere near as exciting as it was last season in Carlos Carvalhal's first campaign in charge.

Then, they were dynamic and genuinely one of the most entertaining teams in the Championship. This time around, Carvalhal has probably gone too far in attempting to make the team harder to beat.

To his credit, he realised that they dropped too many points against so-called lesser teams last season and they were quite open at times, but that attempt to shore things up has been to the detriment of the attacking fluency that was their mark last year.

Perhaps we were all spoiled by that, but real, memorable high-points this season have been few and far between.

That said, most would have accepted a play-off place (some felt the top top was achievable) and that's where they currently are.

How have fans seen the season so far? Are they happy with how things are going at the club?

Last season raised expectation levels, understandably, and not living up to them has caused something of a split.

Some fans believe the team haven't moved forward enough, given the big investment in the squad from owner Dejphon Chansiri and there have been more than a few grumbles about the quality of football on show.

On the other hand, there are those who are happy to be seen as a force in this division again after all the years of heartache and mediocrity that came after Wednesday dropped out of the Premier League in 2000.

Overall, there's no doubting that the club are in a very good place thanks to Mr Chansiri who, in a time of wariness towards foreign ownership, has shown himself to be a compassionate and committed chairman.

How do you see Wednesday's run-in and what's your prediction for where they will finish?

The next eight games are huge and hugely difficult. There are two South Yorkshire derbies coming up away to both Barnsley and Rotherham United in the space of a few days.

Certainly in the case of Rotherham, most teams would see that as an easy three points, but the local pride adds a more difficult element.

Then everything after that is tricky in it's own way - leaders Newcastle; a visit from Sheffield United legend Neil Warnock, who would love to put the skids on a play-off challenge, with Cardiff City; an improving QPR at Loftus Road; the unpredictability of Derby and Ipswich and then Fulham, currently breathing down Wednesday's necks in seventh on the final day.

I think it will rest on the first two games; if they get six points from the derbies then the confidence gained from that will see them through but only just. A scrape into the play-offs and after that... who knows?

Fulham - Ryan O'Donovan (Get West London)
Current league position: 7

Points: 61

Key player: Tom Cairney

Run-in: Rotherham (A), Derby (A), Ipswich (H), Norwich (A), Aston Villa (H), Huddersfield (A), Brentford (H), Sheffield Wednesday (A)

Promotion odds: 7/2

What mark out of 10 would you give Fulham's season so far and why?

8/10.

They've done extremely well in the past couple of months to haul themselves right into the play-off mix and they would've been delighted at the start of the campaign to be a point off the play-offs coming into the last eight games.

The football they're playing is unrecognisable to past seasons too and that has been one of the major positives of this season.

How have fans seen the season so far? Are they happy with how things are going at the club?

The fans are very happy this season - there is a feeling that the way Slavisa Jokanovic has got Fulham playing football is possibly the best they've seen at Craven Cottage for a very long time.

There's an air of excitement around the Cottage at the moment after a few seasons of, let's be honest, dire football, the fans are delighted with the way Fulham play football now and are looking forward to the future.

How do you see Fulham's run-in and what's your prediction for where they will finish?

There are still twists and turns in this play-off race but on paper, Fulham have a decent run in but I have a feeling it will all hinge on that final day trip to Hillsborough when they face Sheffield Wednesday.

That said, I have every confidence Fulham will finish in the play-offs and I can see them finishing the season in fifth and I don't think anyone would fancy facing them in the play-off games.

Norwich City - Michael Bailey (Norwich Evening News)
Current league position: 8

Points: 57

Key player: Cameron Jerome

Run-in: Aston Villa (A), Huddersfield (A), Reading (H), Fulham (H), Preston (A), Brighton (H), Leeds (A), QPR (H)

Promotion odds: 28/1

What mark out of 10 would you give Norwich's season so far and why?

4/10.

The only reason it's not been a complete disaster is that if it was, the season would already be mathematically over. But it's not been much better.

Under-performing stars, sticking with Alex Neil too long – then sacking him anyway, injuries at the wrong time, a dire away record... and they were top of the league in September. The mark almost feels generous.

How have fans seen the season so far?

See above. The fact promotion was the solely stated aim, the fans have felt things haven't been managed to make that happen – and the fallout is ongoing.

The club's current restructure and search for a new head coach at least has them hoping the future is brighter.

But the pressure really is on the City board to get their appointments right, otherwise things will take another turn for the worse.

How do you see Norwich's run-in and what's your prediction for where they will finish?

It's a tough run-in anyway but given City haven't beaten any side in the current top nine this season, the evidence says they haven't got a chance of finishing higher than their current position.

That all said, they do have plenty of quality and they have a safe pair of hands in charge, in Alan Irvine. However, the reality is they will probably finish where they are now – at best. Eighth.

Preston North End - Dave Seddon (Lancashire Evening Post)
Current league position: 9th

Points: 57

Key player: Aiden McGeady

Run-in: Nottingham Forest (H), Bristol City (H), Leeds (A), Huddersfield (A), Norwich (H), Newcastle (A), Rotherham (H), Wolves (A)

Promotion odds: 66/1

What mark out of 10 would you give Preston's season so far and why?

8.5/10.

In the second week of September, Preston were second bottom of the Championship. To now be ninth and to have gone as high as eighth, is a huge improvement - they have lost just five of their last 30 league games.

They have one of the lowest budgets and wage bills in the division but Simon Grayson has identified players who have fitted into the club and who he can develop.

There is a young core to the squad but around them are the experienced heads of Aiden McGeady, Tom Clarke, Paul Gallagher and Alex Baptiste.

How have fans seen the season so far?

After the start to the season Preston had, there is probably an element of surprise of how high they have risen. That said, expectation levels have grown as the season has gone on.

Crowds haven't grown with the better form though, which is a bit of a concern. The away support is strong with a combined 14,000 attending the last three Saturday away games but attendances have flat-lined at Deepdale.

How do you see Preston's run-in and what's your prediction for where they will finish?

The run-in is a mixed bag, with games against teams at the top and bottom.

Three tough away games - Leeds, Huddersfield and Newcastle - could shape the destiny of the season. North End are without an away win in seven games.

Their home form is very strong though, their last league defeat at Deepdale being on Boxing Day, with them unbeaten in seven and having won the last four.

I predict an eighth place finish because maybe they have have themselves with a bit too much to do.

Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic believes the international break came at "the right time" after a hectic period
Fulham had played five games in the space of 14 days before the break and have now had a chance to recharge the batteries ahead of the final play-off push

Slavisa Jokanovic believes the international break came at a good time for his Fulham side after a hectic March.

The Cottagers played five times in the space of 14 days in a gruelling period, yet they still managed to win two and draw two, losing just the once.

Several of Fulham's stars jetted off for international duty, with Tom Cairney winning his first cap for Scotland while Stefan Johansen was named Norway captain, but Jokanovic was pleased with the work the remaining members of the squad did over the break, concentrating on physical training.

He said: " "It's good this international break arrived at a good moment for us, in general.

"We weren't completely poor as I was working with only eight or nine players in first week, and after so many games, we used this part for recovering the team and for some physical jobs.

"We were working on many tactical things during these two weeks.

"I believe we use this period well - people from international break come back to Fulham safe without physical problem and I expect we are going to be ready for challenge that is in front of us."

Tim ream arrived back from the US squad early yesterday morning, while Scott Parker and Lucas Piazon will both miss the Rotherham game with injury.

He added: "This morning Tim Ream came back from a very long trip from Panama.

"Scott Parker and Lucas Piazon are still not ready to help us in the game that is in front of us."

Rotherham could be relegated from the Championship, even if they manage to beat play-off hopefuls Fulham.

The Millers are 24 points adrift of safety with eight matches to play and they will go down if Burton Albion, Nottingham Forest and Bristol City all avoid defeat.

Fulham midfielder Scott Parker (back) is likely to be absent.

The Whites could recall Dennis Odoi after he came off the bench to score in the defeat by Wolves.

Match facts
Both sides have found the net in each of the last six league meetings in Rotherham, with both sides also sharing two wins (D2).
The Cottagers have won five of their last eight league games against the Millers, drawing the other three.
Tom Cairney has assisted more league goals in 2017 than any other Championship player (7).
The Millers are the first second tier side to concede 87+ goals after 38 games since Stockport in 2001-02 (88).
No second tier side has ever won fewer than 17 points from 38 games (3 pts/win) than Rotherham in 2016-17 and Stockport in 2001-02.

U18 Preview: Fulham (A)

Third take on second in Merit Group 2 this weekend as Derby County's Under 18s hit the road to face an in-form Fulham outfit on Saturday afternoon, kick-off 1pm.

A 3-0 victory last time out against Everton saw Justin Walker's and Rory Delap's side climb up to third in their group a week ago as they bounced back to winning ways at the first time attempt, following their 5-3 defeat to Norwich City.

Goals from Connor Dixon, Adam Davie and Max Bird proved to be more than enough for the Rams to overcome the Toffees at the Training Centre in partnership with the University of Derby.

On paper, it appears Derby face a stiff test this weekend against a Fulham team that come into this fixture on the back of a nine-game unbeaten run.

The Cottagers' last fixture saw them overcome Everton 3-0 and it was a victory which allowed them to climb up to second place in the Merit Group 2 table, behind only Norwich City.

How Merit Group 2 Stands Ahead Of The Weekend...

Position   Played   Club   W   D   L   GF   GA   GD   Points
1   2   Norwich City U18s   2   0   0   8   5   3   6
2   3   Fulham U18s   1   2   0   7   4   3   5
3   2   DERBY COUNTY U18s   1   0   1   6   5   1   3
4   3   Everton U18s   1   0   2   2   7   -5   3

The Rams, however, have a game in hand on this weekend's opponents and should Walker's and Delap's side be victorious at Motspur Park, the Rams will leapfrog Fulham – keeping alive their ambitions of a top two finish.

Ahead of the contest, Under 18 Goalkeeper Matt Yates spoke exclusively to dcfc.co.uk to preview the game. He said: "The win against Everton was very important giving the result against Norwich, which didn't go our way.

"We played a top side with very good players and so naturally to win in the manor that we did and to keep a clean sheet was very pleasing.

"In terms of Fulham, this will be the first time that I've come across them as a scholar, however I am very aware of how good a side they are.

"They are a side unbeaten in quite a while now and so they are not to be underestimated, but with that said, confidence amongst us is high and the moment and we want to keep our run going.

"Fulham are there, or there abouts in terms of chasing the Merit Group 2 title, however we are here to compete and our target has always been to achieve a top two finish."

David Prutton predicts which of Sheffield Wednesday or Fulham will be higher in the Championship table come 5pm on Saturday

Sheffield Wednesday and Fulham have grown isolated in sixth and seventh place respectively.

The battle for sixth place resumes on Saturday, when Fulham can overtake Sheffield Wednesday by bettering the Owls' result.

Wednesday travel to Barnsley for the day's lunchtime kick-off and know that anything short of a win against their local rivals will allow Fulham to surpass them with a point against bottom side Rotherham, who must win to guarantee their survival.

Though fans of the Cottagers will certainly fancy their chances of climbing into the top six, they are sure to be wary of a third successive slip-up against a side from the bottom end of the division.

According to Sky Sports pundit David Prutton, who spent three seasons at Hillsborough, this will be the week that Wednesday are finally overtaken by Slavisa Jokanovic's side.

"Sheffield Wednesday have been fortunate because every time they stutter, Fulham do too," Prutton writes in his weekly predictions column. "It's kept them marginally ahead in the play-off race but it's very tight now.

"They face a tough test against a Barnsley team that has been excellent despite losing several key players.

"I've played in this game and it's usually pretty tasty so I'm going for a hard-fought score draw."

He added: "I'm sorry Rotherham, I'm sending you down this weekend. They need to win to keep alive their slim hopes of survival but Fulham are pushing for a play-off place themselves and will be desperate for the three points.

"The London club have been very hit-and-miss this season but they should get something from Rotherham, who could then do them a favour when they face Sheffield Wednesday in midweek."

Last season's play-off finalists, Wednesday have won just one of their last six matches in all competitions.

However, the Owls could welcome back a number of key players, including Sam Hutchinson and Gary Hooper, against their local rivals.

Fulham visit Carlos Carvalhal's side for a potential play-off play-off on the season's final day.

The Tony Gale Column
(http://www.fulhamfc.com/-/media/Placeholder/Former%20Players/Tony%20Gale/BPI_JG_Fulham_v_Brighton_00092300.jpg?w=300&h=400)

Rotherham United are all but mathematically down now, and while some people say that playing a relegated team makes them a dangerous proposition, I don't think that will be the case. It's a must-win game on Saturday, simple as that. Everyone else has been disposing of them fairly easily at the moment, so I can't see us having too much trouble. I accept that there are no easy games in the Championship, but Rotherham aren't where they are by accident. I would imagine they're now thinking more about next season than they are about this one.

In terms of teams we could be facing first after the international break, they're probably the best side we could have asked for, so I don't think we can have any excuses. We blew it a little bit against Wolves, but having said that, we haven't lost a lot of ground. Sheffield Wednesday seem to be stuttering a bit at the moment, and that's something that we've got to take advantage of. We've got to take the bull by the horns now and make the most of this opening that Wednesday have given us. Every game is a cup final until the end of the season.

The following match is more of a test. Pride Park is always a tough place to go, and even more so now with Gary Rowett who's not long been in charge. They might be harbouring thoughts of perhaps having a late run and getting in the Play-Offs themselves, so that's a difficult game. That said, I think we're better against the stronger sides anyway. Derby will want to play football, unlike Wolves who were more of a physical side, which should suit us down to the ground.

Gary has done well against us in his managerial career, and he certainly knows how to get his teams organised. A lot of people were surprised when he left Birmingham, and since that time their results have really suffered, which says a lot. Without outstanding individuals at Birmingham, he had turned them into top-six contenders, so he's a fine young manager. I thought he might have held out for a Premier League club, but it's so difficult for English managers now to get that sort of opportunity, unless they lead a side into the top flight.

The last few matches we've set up without a recognised striker, and the results have been mixed with a win, a draw and a defeat. Chris Martin scored for Scotland and Cyriac grabbed a nice goal for the Ivory Coast over the international break, which gives the Gaffer something to think about ahead of this run of games. Those goals won't have done their confidence any harm at all – although we know of course that Chris wouldn't be eligible to play against Derby.

I was at the Cottage last week for the launch of Leroy Rosenior's autobiography. We were well represented by David Daly who did a nice speech on behalf of Fulham, and it was all very tastefully done by the Club. That's one thing that you can say about Fulham, we do things classily.

I contributed to the book, and it was a pleasure to do so. I was at Fulham when Leroy came to Fulham and made his debut, and later on when West Ham needed a striker I was the one who recommended him to John Lyall, who hadn't wanted to spend a lot of money. I always remember Leroy for his prowess in the air in particular, and he was fearless. He was one of those players who wore his heart on his sleeve, and he's a smashing lad. If anyone's thinking about buying the book, I'd recommend doing so, if only for the bits that I've written! In all honesty though, it's a very good read. I was also delighted to make his best XI that he played alongside – although maybe I wouldn't have been in that had I not agreed to contribute!

Revealed: The true story behind Fulham's Michael Jackson statue

THE true story behind Fulham's Michael Jackson statue at Craven Cottage has been revealed by Brede Hangeland.

Michael Jackson had a statue made after his death in 2009

The statue was commissioned following Jackson's death in June 2009 by then chairman Mohammed Al Fayed.

The singer was a friend of Al Fayed's but his only club link was that he attended one game - against Wigan in 1999.

And now former Fulham defender has revealed why it ended up outside the club's ground.

He told Sky Sports' Fantasy Football Club show: "It's just a strange thing. You couldn't think of two bigger opposites than Fulham Football Club and the Michael Jackson statue.

"My understanding is that statue was meant to go in Harrods.

"Then he sold Harrods and had the statue. That's where it came from."

The statue was removed in 2013 - after which Fulham were relegated, a fact Al Fayed blamed on the statue going.

Hangeland added: "I have to say he was a strange character.

"He had some good people around him to help him run it because whenever he came down and spoke to us it was more a comedy show.

"He didn't have a clue what was going on but he was sensible enough to allow other people to run it - so we were successful.

"I should have had a notebook when he came down because he had so many stories."

You won't believe what Fulham did to this former player... this is shocking

BREDE HANGELAND has revealed how Fulham axed him in 2014 by E-MAIL.

Brede Hangeland was told he was leaving Fulham via an email

Hangeland helped Fulham reach the Europa League final in 2011 and played nearly 250 games for the club.

But despite spending more than six years at Craven Cottage, Fulham chiefs showed him no respect while getting rid.

Hangeland told Fantasy Football Club: "I love Fulham. It was my club and it always will be.

"The end was sad. We got relegated and we had a manager that didn't fit Fulham.

"I left after receiving an e-mail after six-and-a-half years of service.

"I don't see that as being anything to do with Fulham. It was just a bad time in the club's history.

"Luckily they're on the up now."

Fulham Exclusive: Leroy Rosenior slams 'ridiculous' and 'disgusting' Chris Martin decision
FORMER Fulham forward Leroy Rosenior has described Chris Martin's decision to go on strike earlier this season as 'disgusting'.

Fulham loanee Chris Martin made himself unavailable for two games earlier this season

The on-loan Derby striker refused to play in the abandoned game at Reading in December and New Year's Day defeat to Brighton.

He soon returned to the fold but has barely figured for Slavisa Jokanovic's side since signing a contract extension with his parent club in January.

"I've watched it from afar," Rosenior told Starsport. "The thought of a player going on strike is totally alien.

"While Chris Martin is on loan to this football club, he is a Fulham football player. It's as simple as that.

"Players and agents think they can control - why did he sign the contract in the first place?

"To go on strike from playing football is a disgusting thing because playing football is an honour.

"How many people say, 'I wanted to be a footballer'. It's an amazing thing to do and I think players forget that.

"If they look back on their carer and think, 'Oh God, I went on strike and I stopped playing football' - it's a ridiculous thing to do.

"It was something that I don't agree with, I don't know his reasoning but he's gone down in peoples' estimations because of it and he needs to build that up."

Leroy Rosenior has urged Chris Martin to leave a positive legacy at the club

Martin has a decent return for Fulham - 11 goals in 34 appearances - and Rosenior believes he can win the majority of fans back by firing the club to promotion.

He added: "I think players should be looking at having a really good career playing - the money will come.

"History will not judge you well and players don't realise that and that's the advice I'd give to him - leave a legacy by what you do on the pitch."

Aluko Fears Rotherham Could Derail Fulham's Promotion Push

Nigerian forward Sone Aluko says relegation threatened Rotherham United could hamper Fulham's chance of making the Championship play-offs.

Fulham will continue their pursuit of a play-off spot on Saturday when they play away to Rotherham who are bottom of the 24-team Championship table.

Fulham are seventh in the league table on 61 points, one point off sixth place Sheffield Wednesday who occupy the last play-off position.

A defeat for Rotherham will confirm their relegation to League one.

"Even though they're bottom it's still a tough game and they'll give a good account of themselves, they did when they came to Craven Cottage," Aluko told Fulham's official website.

"Even when they are relegated or if they were relegated already, it doesn't make a difference to players because there's always something to play for, whether it will be a new contract or you need to impress some one.

"Every time you play there is someone watching there's someone judging you so it will be a tough game, every point is is competitive.

"Every point you get in this league you have to earn so if we want to win we need to be professional and have to work hard and play well and be clinical and keep a clean sheet.

Major boost for Fulham as star man reiterates commitment to club

Fulham fans will be breathing a sigh of relief after star midfielder Tom Cairney revealed he is fully committed to the Cottagers and their promotion push this season.

In a report in the Daily Star (print edition, Saturday 1st April 2017), Cairney has stated he is nothing but focused on getting the job done for his club between now and the end of the season, as Fulham chase a playoff place.

Cairney said: 'I'm just concentrating on playing well for Fulham and helping us win promotion. We've got a good enough group to get us into the play-off spots'.

Fulham have been excellent for the majority of the season and despite a bit of a dip in form over the last few weeks, are still well placed to challenge Sheffield Wednesday for that coveted sixth spot in the Championship table.

The Cottagers take on bottom of the league Rotherham United today and will be hoping for an easy three points to take back down to London.

Millers v Cottagers Preview

Rotherham United could be relegated by the end of this afternoon's game when they are at home to Fulham.

Sitting bottom of the table the Millers are forty-four points behind the Fulham who are one place below the play-off places.

The Cottagers last away game saw them get a good win over promotion hopefuls Newcastle United with the Rotherham last home game was a win for visitors Brighton and Hove Albion.

Last time out both Rotherham and Fulham had losses - the Millers away at QPR and Fulham at home to Wolves.

Vital Quotes:

Paul Warne - Fulham love to pass the ball and come down the centre of the pitch. They have a lot of pace in their team. I need our lads to go toe-to-toe with them and give our fans something to cheer about

Slavisa Jokanovic - Rotherham have not had the best season and we go into this game as favourites. But this is the Championship and you never know what is going to happen. We know we are going to find some long balls and that they have some people who will attack in the second phase. We have to be one hundred per cent focused.

Rotherham United Team News:

Rotherham United could welcome back Richard Wood, Darnell Fisher and Stephen Kelly to the match day squad after injury but it's likely that Will Vaulks will stay in his new role as right-back. Richard O'Donnell is back after a hand injury and will push Lewis Price for the place between the sticks. Carlton Morris could make his home debut this afternoon after coming off the bench last time out. Definitely out is Joe Mattock who is suspended.

Player to watch: Danny Ward

Really needs to get back on the goal scoring trail and why not at home this weekend.

Fulham Team News:

Scott Parker probably won't make this game suffering with a back problem while a broken jaw keeps Lucas Piazon out. Coming off the bench and scoring last time out against Wolves could give Dennis Odoi a chance of a start.

Player to watch: Chris Martin

On loan from Derby and top scorer so far this season for the Cottagers. Has been on International duty with Scotland scoring in their win over Slovenia at the weekend.
