Title: Ream or Madl?
Post by: Rambler on April 08, 2017, 05:06:12 PM
Both had a chance to play today so we can compare their performances. By the sounds of it Madl was caught out a couple of times, as was Ream.
My vote is for Madl to partner Kalas.

We need another option. But I guess Madl ahead of Ream. I cannot believe the Icelander is now ignored completely. What a mess at the back. At least Betts did more than enough to show he should keep his place.

I go for madl, as someone said earlier on a different thread, ream is a bit like senderos can play really well but more often than not make the expensive error, gets caught out far to often for my liking.

Not a lot of choice, so I feel it has to be Madl. But we really need a better centre half to partner Kalas.

The real positive was Betts.  I also wonder how Sig can have slipped so far out of contention.  Madle seems to lack a bit of pace, Ream gets caught out of position too easily.  We really need at least obe strong CB signing in the summer.  As others have said we need to settle on a strong spine.

Choosing between Ream and Madl is like having to choose between a slap in the face or a kick in the balls.

And I can only assume these posts about Bettinelli were written by people who left before the Ipswich goal
Slap in the face wins by a country mile

Madl was not very good today but Ream made him look like Maldini in comparison. Ream should have been sent off.

I don't think it's fair to judge madl as he hasn't played for months but I also feel ream has done very well. If madl had the run of games ream has how would he be playing? Anybody's opinion would be but a guess.

The more important question is who next season is going to replace kalas? That is a worrying thought.

Madl played at Rotherham
Ream at Derby
Both today

Play Ream simply because he is left footed and provides a better balance with right footed Kalas. Either way I really cannot decide which one of them is worse

Madl ahead of Ream but we need a better centre back in the summer. Betts was impressive today, distribution was very good I felt. He has not improved much in terms of commanding a box during free kicks and corners. If only he could get that under his belt he would become a very very good goalkeeper

Yes after careful consideration I agree, a slap in the boat is the preferred option.

Very noticeable ,early in the game, how Ipswich were exploiting the large open area we leave between keeper and back four. Their through balls in the inside right channel were numerous and dangerous and could well have lead to a goal.

Betts was probably Man of the Match, a couple of magnificent saves at critical moments. Shame he can't command the goal area from crosses and corners and a pitty about their late goal.

Hmm, the trouble for me tho Woolly, is we are hanging our defensive system around a loan signing. When he leaves at season end we are back to square one.

This was the problem with the windows. We knew we needed a centre back and a striker. We didn't sort either position in a permanent way.

And those have been our most costly deficiencies this season.

It's not surprising Dunk stayed at Brighton. But he was exactly what we needed on a permanent basis.

Coyw!

I would replace them both in the summer Betts and Button as well

Ream for me over Madl, thought he did ok when he came on. As for betts, nothing better than ok. Almost gifted them a goal in the first half and was at adult for their goal, should never have come, but like I say he did ok. Saves he made were good, but then I think Button would have made them too.

Reckon he will keep his place.

Not having a pop I think it's good that no one is having a go, as I've sat d before when keepers make mistakes it's usually a goal

Madl is a tidy footballer but lacks height and pace, hard with our high line . Was subbed as Ipswich getting behind when Ream came on he was stronger but could have been off. Need two centre backs in summer as Ragnar poor and Kalas will probably go back to Chelsea

Madl every time until we find someone better

Our high line with fullbacks bombing way up the pitch puts us at risk on the counter.  Ream or Madl, doesn't matter which one, if they're exposed without help.  Hard to blame the CBs in my opinion if the rest of the team doesn't transition quickly when possession is lost.

I'm more of a Madl fan; I think he's the better defender, but struggled a little with McGoldrick today, I'm not sure he's 100% fit as he didn't seem right in general.

ForeverFulham just above me puts it well; with how expansive, attacking and high we play, no matter who is in the back four: they are going to look a little fragile as there's so much space to work with in the opposition transition.

The quicker the centre back, the better really - it's partially why I think the three would also suit - you just gain that extra bit of cover in the defensive third for transitions - and when we have the ball, 7 players can attack because you always have that security three that can cover and hold. I question whether we can convince Tomas Kalas to another season (or permanent future) as a Championship player, but either way, we need to improve.

usually i prefer madl but I cannot believe anyone could say he was anything but awful today. ream made many fine interceptions, headers and tackles, he was caught out because our midfield was AWOL and did what he had to do and madl didn't. it is a no braine to say ream is missed and is in better form, but madl would normally be the better player.... at norwich Ream!
