Title: Atmosphere
Post by: Luka on April 17, 2017, 07:14:08 PM
It was terrific today, we sounded loud and vocal today in H4.
I'm at home now watching a recording of the sky broadcast and there seems almost no noise from the home support while the away support sounds massive!!

Is this the accustics in the ground or just where the mics are placed?
We should adress this for next season if it's accustics. The way things stand it must give the away team a real advantage.

At Norwich it was pretty loud.

Best moment of the match was when they scored and were singing 'Who are ya' to us and the whole of CC replied with the 'We are Fulham, super Fulham' chant, it really showed how up for it we were. It was a bit quiet in the last 5, mainly because the game was finished and we were all knackered!

It's always that way. The acoustics are truly awful. I just hope the players hear some of it.

The Villa had great support as always but their songs today were so childish, they seemed to spend more time singing about Birmingham City.

Could whoever keeps starting that 'we will rock you' clap in the Johnny Haynes please stop.

It's embarrassing.   :dft001:

The Hammy End with its wide open spaces at each side let's the noise out into the Thames.
Putney End it bounces back off the Cottage.. :022:

Away fans are always noisy,we out sang Norwich at their gaff.

Yep agree, couldnt go today but managed to start watching on the TV after 25 mins. Atmosphere seemed very subdued.
Really think the club should look into ways of improving the acoustics at the Hammersmith end. Sound escapes out the semi-open back & the roof layout doesn't help. Funnily enough didn't think Villa were overly loud either

Yes there's something about the acoustics. When I have friends or relatives as away supporters they always say afterwards how quiet the home support is, even if it sounds loud to me in T block in the Riverside.

Scott Hogan didn't look too pleased when he was substituted & a Riversider (yes, a Riversider) shouted he should've stayed at Brentford.

I used to sit in the JH stand, roughly on the half way line and, invariably, the Hammy End sounded quiet.  Now I'm in the HE and it only sometimes seems noisy.  As has been said, the acoustics are not good.

It was loud at times today but at others quite quiet.  The problem I think is a mix of poor acoustics and relatively quiet supporters...

When we go to the away games it tends to be the most vocal of fans all around the ground gathered in one spot.

Was in the mixed end, and the home fans were, arguably from where I was sitting, poor vocally.

Villa chants were pure banter.

Gonna have to be at our very best and loudest at Huddersfield. Any idea how many we are going to take there?

Hammersmith end acoustics have always been a problem as long as I can remember - I do wonder what it's like in the centre circle though. We've been suggesting the club looks at it for decades

As someone mentioned earlier, please stop that we will rock you clap... very, very cringe. The acoustics at CC are awful and especially the HE. I'm not sure whether the cottage by the Putney end may help trap sound and therefore is louder. Obviously, away fans will always be more vocal and CC is known to be pretty quiet but on many occasions I had felt that we generated good noise only until i would sometimes watch the broadcast. Not sure what could be done other then enclosing Riverside and HE (wasn't that meant to be a plan at one point?)
Also being by a river doesn't help acoustics either

It would be interesting to have the home fans sit in the putney end and the away fans in the Hammersmith end for a game, and see what the difference is.

The fact that 400 or 500 Burton or Rotherham fans can be heard quite clearly over 3 or 4 thousand of us (albeit potentially more quiet) suggests a large part of it is down to the acoustics.

I think the clubs answer to that problem was the clappers :X

When we develop if we develop the Riverside, join it to the Hemmersmith end, or better still redevelop the Hammersmith end as part of the plan.

I am not a choirmaster but even 500 away fans standing together and singing/chanting/boinging as necessary will be more 'atmospheric' than much smaller pockets of home fans sitting down and being vigorously stewarded if they stand. From what I saw yesterday Villa had at least four whole blocks standing so for the Hammy End to compete that terracing section is a must. Bless you all at the back of H5,6 for giving it a go.

Of course you could be right. On the couple of occasions this season I have sat next to Mrs B the guys in the next row are churning out sudoku puzzles and one them seems oblivious to what is going on around him. I don't think the guy sat immediately behind us can stand very easily so that sort of tempers our instinct to stand at any hint of excitement.

I'll never understand paying to go to football to take interest in anything other than the football.

Discreetly placed microphones and speakers would solve the problem, if it's allowed.
A few grand :0) would create a fantastic atmosphere from the home fans.
A wall of white noise, chirping crickets or running water would dampen the Putney end.
with the running water 50% of them would also be in the toilets at any one time.

There are ways

A Megaphone, as defined in the English Oxford Collins Dictionary,  is a Cone/ Tunnel shaped device, designed to amplify and intensify and direct the voice. A speaking trumpet, a loudhailer, a blowhorn, an acoustic device, a bullhorn.

Yes your right, the clappers are bad enough, it took two courses of Penicillin to get rid of them. I still have the scars to prove it. But at least it cured the itching.

Good idea.

I am to understand that is under consideration to redevelop both the Putney and Hammersmith ends, in conjunction with the Riverside. Hence the reason for a further review and update, which has caused further delay with the Riverside, because it will save money in the long term.

As daft as it may sound wind direction plays a part.

Football Clubs are always looking a small details to get best possible results on the pitch. I sit in Johnny Haynes an acoustics don't think you could do much, but if my memory serves me,there are gaps all along the back of the Hammersmith End.These Could surely be filled?

With regards to the "we will rock you clapping" why not combine it with a chant of "we want 3!" and "we want 4!" and so on as the goals flood in on Saturday?
