Title: Who's out there?
Post by: St. Andrews White on December 16, 2017, 05:11:05 PM
Whilst that was a dire performance, I can't think of anyone out there who could come in and improve this side.
Basic errors and losing faith with Slav, but keep until the end of the season and then part company if he's not improved us I reckon.

But if we did part ways, seriously who could we get in?

Oscar Garcia would be an upgrade as he's just quit St Etienne but not sure he would come here-- I know we looked at him when we got Joka
Karanka would be a good appointment as well, He transformed Boro in the championship and got them playing good football.

Like both of these suggestions, I'd like to see us try and tempt Graham Potter as well imo

Potter is well thought of,Aberdeen had him lined up I believe if McInnes left for Rangers last week, but McInnes decided to stay at Aberdeen.

Has Garcia left on his own account, or sacked?

Would be keen on Potter, been following him this season as part of a radio show. Done very well for Ostersunds this season, but would he leave whilst they're in the Europa League, plus a real risk too...

It was weird because he was actually doing well, Was getting attention from French media --- https://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2017/aug/21/saint-etienne-unshackled-from-lifeless-approach-by-oscar-garcia
But then suddenly just quit. I think disagreements with board.

A Chris Coleman type figure!

A Roy Hodgson!

Seriously, in theย  anger of the moment I just think we need some good, old fashioned organisation at the back, and a traditional centre forward.

But I think Slavisa hasn't maybeย  been backed in the transfer market to play how he wants .

Yeah that's why he left Watford. He was in the frame for Barca job recently so not sure if he would come back to Champ but think he likes England

Potter would fit the bill for a longer term project alongside the continued development of the youth set up but the sense of urgency to get back into the Prem may ultimately undermine him. I feel we are almost as broken as when we chanted to Kit "We've got our Fulham back". A young coach might be the way forward with the caveat of a five year project that makes us Prem quality and division champions but we don't seem to do that anymore.
I am mostly disappointed about the likes of Edun and DLT seemingly dropping back down the pecking order whilst the first team picks still manage to produce very little or indeed nothing at all.
Maybe we need a better coaching set up and forget about a traditional manager role.

I think Slavisa is a great coach, Gets us playing good football and improves our players. But his subs, and lineups are questionable. As well as his stubbornness.

F()ck me a heart scare, if he came to us and saw our defending he'd have a full on heart attack.

"improves our players". Really? I will struggle to name a regular in the first team squad who has made a marked improvement since joining us. Our limited number of genuine gems still rely on their natural talent or an asset such as pace and it is rarely deployed effectively these days. If he spends half his week with the juniors then I will accept he has some positive influence about the place but if he does'nt then I would really question where we have progressed under his reign.

You are lying. He has improved Fredericks and Ream greatly. And got Aluko and Malone playing the best football of their careers.
Piazon was poor at Reading and look at him with us.
Mcdonald has changed role completely to what he did at Wolves and he's been good as well. (Can be very hard to adapt to new role and requires good coaching)

That's why we are in 12 th place, won only 7 out of 22 attempts. That's less than a third, and have just lost to a team who haven't won at home for a year. Everyone else has avoided losing against them at the Stadium of Light.
He is a busted flush. His team selections are criminal. His game management is reactive and his substitutions are a laughing stock.
No alternative game plan, so predictable with a team who have a very soft underbelly and no back bone.
It is so unbalanced, and the system of play is designed not to score.
But the problem we have is, who is qualified to do what Jok cannot do, and who would be that interested in working for the amateur regime that runs this club.

Well Mr JL
Ouch. With due respect, a basic requirement on this board, do we not see Fred use his natural talent which is pace and then fail to deliver a telling cross more than we see the opposite. Composure, balance and an eye for an opportunity are coached, practiced and perfected to be a consistent element of a players game. Ream, so often hung out to dry after soft goals has indeed improved but through coaching ? Would his form be more about not being moved around the back four and having a fairly steady partner in Kalas, a shadow of the player of last season by the way, rather than coaching? Kmac is a good socks rolled down Championship player with a fairly straightforward role. I suspect he is the player feeling the most frustrated at the moment as he can see all the problems around him.
I would add Sess is struggling in his role and is devastating unleashed so why restrict him? The inconsistencies of Ojo show he does'nt get the man management he needs. He is a good player. Fonte has a long list of limitations but it's not like the team is structured to compensate for those or indeed set up to play to his strengths. If we are not going to do that don't play him! Ak. Great potential but just channel all that energy into the feet and the ball. That can be coached. Kebano. So much energy but the touch of a house brick. Control, poise and hitting the target can be coached. A whole host of unknowns remain unknowns, I think I can statistically prove that but honestly I don't need to. Twelve points from a comfy top six and twelve points above Burton could be a summary of Jokas reign.

Paul Lambert would suit.ย  I sat right behind the dug out last Spring when Wolves beat us when we were supposedly 'good'.

He set his team up superbly, negated us totally and drove his team on from the side line.ย  Fulham's coach stood there in his designer suit and looked miserable, exasperated and .... clueless if I'm honest.ย  Lambert knows the game. knows the division and could start tomorrow.ย  Get him in!
