Post by: Keynsham on December 19, 2017, 05:08:50 PM
A little thread to try and break the monotony of the current round of misery.

So....

What booze have you got /getting in for Christmas in your house and how much of it will last until the New Year?

I took advantage of the Marks and Sparks offer of buy 6 bottles of wine and get 25 % off that ended on the 4th December. So bought 24 bottles. The only problem is I now have only 1 bottle of Champagne left to show for it Hic

Too much really...the one constant though is always a bottle of Green Chartreuse....quite remarkably I am informed a very popular drink in Burnley.

The respective 25% offers when buying 6 bottles by the likes of Tesco's/Sainsbury's and Marks can provide good value when purchasing bubbly and wine

After Sunderland drink was the only option.

Bring on the Tykes

None. My dad works for ABInBev (who own Budweiser, Corona, Stella and a bunch of others) so he gets it all for free.

Quality not quantity!  Star of the show is a bottle of Venezuelan rum that just had to be opened and sampled the other evening, just for quality control purposes mind you.

Cracking idea for a thread.

Lots of Fullers bitter, keep buying wine because you can't have enough (although to accompany Xmas dinner it will be some older bottles that I have been aging). Treated myself to a top Spanish brandy; Carlos I Gran Reserve.
Some top quality sweet wine because I love a pudding wine.
Madeira rather than Port.
Since we are having Christmas dinner and pressys on evening of 24th this year we have gone a bit Austrian and we bought a bottle of Jagermeister.

Loads of bottles of wine - 30 maybe, barrel of our local Ale coming Thursday 60 pints.  All the normal spirits plus Calvados and Armagnac.

Assume you are referring to me (lol), but as you have not asked I will tell you anyway, too much!!! Just hopes it lasts through the festive period which will largely depend on the Barnsley match and whether FulhamTV can get my subscription problem sorted out in time  so I can actually start listening to matches again. Have a good Christmas Brede!!

I bought a 24 beer pack from WaterintoBeer http://www.waterintobeer.co.uk/

Cost £60, mostly porters & stouts, with some mid dark beers. Nominally it's to share but I will be the one mostly drinking it as my Christmas companions aren't ones for beer. Also got a few bottles of wine, prossecco, and port for laters. Missus drinking gin, but I'm not a fan

I've been put in charge of booze purchasing for family get together on Boxing Day.  Me and Mrs W did bulk purchase last Friday.  Had to secretly replenish this morning while she was visiting a friend!

Well, she's probably not that keen on you, either. But if you ask her nicely she might let you have some of her gin.

Not a big drinker but can't help noticing how tastes have change with wine becoming mandatory and replacing the likes of Gin, Whiskey, Liquers etc,

I have an old bottle of Port tucked away which I may be tempted to open this year.

Bottle of Remy @ £25 is not a bad option...hopefully it will be consumed in or around Christmas....being deemed surplus to requirements for Yuletide in 2007 a bottle accompanied us on the road to the Reebok on the 29th Jan 08 for Brede's debut...didn't last long....don't think David Healy's parents were over impressed with us in the little hostelry adjacent to the ground...all ended remarkably well that season...coyw

Will be drinking little, if anything over Christmas, and nor will my wife, though we may go out for a drink with a mate and his wife.

But I may go to Hull to see Fulham on the 30th, and  then I'll certainly be drinking - that will be my Christmas treat to myself, even if we lose, because I rarely get to go to games.

Barrett 487: Babycham and brandy - didn't they used to be 'flying angels'?  Taking me back a bit there!!

I'd be on the Stella - considered posh lager in those days - and the old girl on the 'angels'.  Happy daze.

"The cup that the Father gave me, should I not by all means drink it?" Everybody knows what this cup means. In present Life the cup takes an important part. It is essential in all parties and enjoyments. It is filled with wine and variety of alcoholic drinks. The doctors use the same cup. They dilute the medicine there and give it to small children, who hesitate it.
Jesus said: "The cup that the Father has given me, should I not by all means drink it?" Every man has one bitter and one sweet cup that change one after another. Throughout an embittered cup man's life purifies constantly. Why it should be purified? Man's life is as spring water that has travelled a lot and has collected some mire, which has made him dirty. In order to be cleared the spring must go throughout different lays of sand. This way water filtrates and as a result gains its initial purity. On account of this God gives every now and then a bitter cup in order to purify our life. When experience a few time this bitter cup you will understand why you had to drink it. The bitter cup will purify your life from all mires and dirty things in your life. What does these mire and dirty things mean? They are man's bad thoughts and desires. They are elements that pollute man's life and his character destroying it. This way a man looses his confidence in his Life and starts fears for his health, for his age, for his wealth. Once he is afraid of being ill, loosing his wealth and for being old all these bad things happens to him. The things he is afraid of just happen. What is the philosophy of this? In his fair a man imagines the situations that do not exist.
Jesus first understood meaning of life, its final goal and as a result he drank his embittered cup and he did not regret for drinking it at all. If Jesus had not drunk this bitter cup world would have been left without any life's bounties.
What is hidden in the bitter cup? –God's Love. You will say that it brings sufferings. Without suffering it can not bring the fruit of life. Jesus is the alive fruit on the tree of life. Each man holds in himself one Peter and one Jesus. Peter takes out the knife from its pocket and cut the ear of the servant. Jesus says to him: "Peter, put back your knife ".In order words it means: Drink the cup that father gives you in order to understand Devine harmony. The bitter cup comes to everybody of you. I wish you drink this cup with certain dignity, like real Christians. After drinking the resurrection will come - the new Life.
This is the outer meaning of that matter.

Anyone who says alcohol is a depresent, isn't drinking enough of it.
Don't drink and drive, it will spill everywhere.
The Doctor told my wife she mustn't touch anything alcoholic, so she got a divorce.
