I don't know if any of you saw the West London Sport report about away fan numbers in the football league. It's actually quite amazing.
I've posted on here before a few times, about giving the away fans the allocation we do and the merits of the neutral zone.
You know what? My feelings are changing on the matter. I would rather a full house than a couple of half empty sections of the Putney End.
We don't just have the most away fans coming to the Cottage than any other ground. It's considerably more. These are the figures from last season.
Amazingly, double the number of away fans come to Fulham as opposed to Brentford.
I think it's something to be proud about
Fulham: 60,685
Aston Villa: 49,528
Newcastle: 47,161
Blackburn: 44,806
Barnsley: 44,548
Reading: 43,996
Preston: 41,915
QPR: 41,244
Derby: 38,563
Wigan: 37,576
Rotherham: 37,471
Birmingham: 34,242
Burton Albion: 33,429
Sheff Wed: 32,424
Wolves: 31,940
Bristol City: 31,516
Nottm Forest: 31,377
Brentford: 30,345
Brighton: 29,031
Huddersfield: 28,581
Cardiff: 24,415
Norwich: 24,082
Leeds: 23,833
Ipswich: 18,904
Deep in the soul of all football fans beats the heart of an honest individual. Most deny it and simply stay with their club but the honest ones admit that there is no better place than the Cottage so they attend matches.
Let's be honest, London is by far the most attractive away venue for a football weekend. That said, we have on average about 900 per game more than QPR.
That really is good to read, probably indicates we have an attractive ground and location but hopefully also shows we have a friendly reputation with a good record for crowd trouble.
We must ensure we preserve this record.
It also means we make more tickets available to visiting fans.

So if I have done my mental arithmetic correct that's an average of around 2,630 away supporters per home League game out of 23 League matches.
I did not realise it was that high.
I also presume this doesn't take into account any away fans in the neutral section so the total is
likely to be even higher than quoted!
Helps the club's finances, even if a pain to hear the opposing fans so loud.
Our gates have held up well since we were relegated, even in the couple of years we were nearer the bottom than the top, the attendances did not fall dramatically.
There was a great piece about this on Sky sports yesterday, they even had their guy doing the walk from where the away supporters are dropped off on the coaches on the Fulham palace road then the looked at the cottage while walking down the road, the guy was saying the most beautiful walk in football, then went into Bishops Park. Ended up on the balcony of the cottage. Was stunned to see Sky doing a good peace on us.
That's very good to read. Let's hope the Putney End remains muted for today's game as we dance about and sing....

It's no fun in Putney end surrounded by away supporters.

It was when we beat Newcastle 5-2 in the 2011/12 season.

It was when we beat Newcastle 5-2 in the 2011/12 season. On a more serious note, my preference would be a move to the Putney End when I have to move out of the Riverside whilst it is being rebuilt rather than to either the Johnny Haynes or Hammersmith ends.
